His ton helped Rajshahi Kings to a big total of 176 at Mirpur. Victorians collapsed at 138 chasing the target.
After the game, Evans said he did not expect a place in the playing XI, given poor performance with the bat in the previous matches. In his last five games, Evans reached two-digit score once and fell for a duck twice.
“I am grateful to the coaches and the owners for giving me an opportunity because I certainly did not think I deserved it today since I did not score any runs,” he told a post-match press conference.
Kings lost three wickets for 28 runs. Evans and Ryan ten Doeschate’s 148-run stand in 83 balls helped the side put up a challenging total.
“We were a bit behind where we would have wanted to be. Me and ten Doeschate spoke and we decided that we need to go to put on a good score,” Evans said.
He insisted that focusing on his basic batting skills was the main force behind his first ton in T20 cricket.
“I found the wicket to be tough, very difficult and very different from those back home. I just had to go back to the basics and get myself in a good position,” he said.
In the first match for Kings, Evans added 10 against Dhaka Dynamites. In the four following games, he scored 1*, 0, 2, 0 respectively.
The left-hander, who plays for Sussex, ended up hitting his career-best of unbeaten 104 on Monday with nine fours and six sixes.
