Investigation officer of the case, DB Inspector Waheduzzaman, submitted a charge-sheet before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, DMP Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam told reporters at a briefing at the DMP Media Centre.
Of the accused, 11 were directly involved in beating Abrar at room No-2011 of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of Bangladesh University of Technology (Buet) while the rest 14 were indirectly involved in the incident either by instigating or patronising, directing or planning it and one of them was present at the place of occurrence, he said, adding that they ascertained this through scrutinising the video footage, taking assistance from technology as well as interrogating hall staff, night guard and other students during investigation.
Nineteen of the accused were FIR-named ones and 16 of them were arrested by police while remaining three people -- Jisan, Tamim and Murshed --remained absconding, said Monirul, also chief of the CTTC unit.
The names of the six other accused came to light during investigation, he said, adding that five of them have already been arrested while another one identified as Mustafa Rafi has been on the run.
Among the arrestees, eight made their confessional statements before the CMM court while many others confessed to police to their involvement in the incident, the DMP official said. “That means the charge-sheet has been prepared flawlessly.”
Monirul said after the incident they had promised to bring all the perpetrators under justice quickly and the charge-sheet was submitted as part of the pledge.
He said the charge-sheet was prepared based on scrutiny of the video footage, technological and other evidence as well as witnesses.
