Higher education in the country will not reach the desired goal until and unless the college education is modernised, they said, adding that the government should prioritise the higher education and increase budgetary allocation in this sector.
The opinion was conveyed at a meeting of an expert committee for formulating strategic plan for education at the college level under College Education Development Project (CEDP) held at the UGC.
The educationists noted that the formulation of a particular strategic plan is urgent for development of college education.
Quality textbooks need to be written by expert teachers at the college level so that these sustain for at least 20 years.
Baseline study is also imperative to determine the existing situation of science education being imparted by college, they said.
