President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
Committee President National Professor Rafiqul Islam and its Chief Coordinator Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury also handed over different publications on the occasion of the ‘Mujib Borsho’ to the President during the meeting.
Kamal Abdul Naser apprised the President of various programmes taken by the committee on the occasion of the ‘Mujib Borsho’.
He informed the President that Bangabandhu’s time of birth will be observed through fireworks at 8pm.
After that, other formal programmes, including the airing of recorded speeches of the President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, will be held on the day.
Abdul Hamid said the birth centenary of Bangabandhu on March 17 is not only a unique day for the Bangalee nation but also day of joy.
He also hailed the committee for taking programmes on the occasion of ‘Mujib Borsho’.
The President said the people of the country, especially the young generation, will be able to know about the life and works of Bangabandhu through these programmes.
They will also play an active role in nation building activities imbued with the spirit of Liberation War and ideals of Bangabandhu, he said.
After the detection of coronavirus cases for the first time in Bangladesh on March 8, the year-long programmes taken to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during the ‘Mujib Borsho’ were rearranged considering public health.
The grand inaugural ceremony of the birth centenary celebrations scheduled for March 17 next at the National Parade Ground will be held later due to the prevailing situation across the world caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
Other celebration programmes will also be observed avoiding massive public gatherings.
The government declared the period from March 17, 2020 to March 26, 2021 as the ‘Mujib Borsho’ marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.
Secretaries concerned to the President were also present during the meeting.
