Benapole, Oct 24 (UNB) – Members of Border Guard Bangladesh detained an Indian citizen along with 10 gold bars in Daulatpur border area here on Thursday.
The detainee was identified as Gopal Sarkar, 50, son of Shibupad Sarkar of North 24 Pargana of West Bengal.
Lt Col Imran Ullah Sarkar, commanding officer of 21 BGB Battalion, said being tipped off that a huge quantity of gold bars were being smuggled to India, a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area and detained Gopal at noon.
Ten gold bars worth Tk 58.51 lakh were recovered from his possession, he said adding a case was filed with Benapole Police Station in this regard.
