Chattogram, Dec 22 (UNB) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a suspected terrorist along with firearms from Ichhapur Foyzia Bazar in Hathazari upazila on Friday evening in connection with the murder of Naniarchar Upazila chairman Shaktiman Chakma.
The arrestee was identified as Kali Shangkar Chakma, 29, son of Sumoti Ranjan Chakma of Rangamati district.
On information, Rab members set up a checkpost on Rangamati-Chattogram road at the bazar and recovered a firearms along with five bullets from a CNG-run auto-rickshaw around 6:30pm, said Md Mashkur Rahman, assistant director (media) of Rab-7.
They also arrested Kali Shangkar from the auto-rickshaw in this connection.
During intial interrogation, Shangkar confessed to killing the upazila chairman.
Advocate Shaktiman Chakma, 55, also a leader of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction), was shot dead in front of the upazila parishad complex on May 3 this year.
