Local authorities have imposed strict restrictions in the Mirpur municipal area of Kushtia district for a week to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.
The restrictions came into force at 6am on Thursday, and will continue till June 23.

At an emergency meeting of the Corona Preventive Committee on Wednesday, Mirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Linkon Biswas took the decision to impose the restrictions in the area in view of a sudden surge in Covid cases.
All standalone shops and markets, except the kitchen markets and local pharmacies, will remain closed during the week-long restrictions. Anyone found violating health protocols will be penalised.

The health authorities on Wednesday recorded 98 fresh cases in the district in 24 hours after testing 239 samples.
So far, 5,834 people have contracted coronavirus in the district, said Kushtia Civil Surgeon Dr AHM Anwarul Islam.
