The Global Deal is a global partnership that is in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – Goal number 8 and 17 – to the Agenda 2030, with the objective of jointly addressing the challenges in the global labor market enabling all people to benefit from globalisation.
Sweden, International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), jointly launched this initiative in 2015, said the Embassy of Sweden.
Bangladesh joined as a signatory to it in 2016 and has summarised its commitment and progress in the Global Deal Flagship report published in May 2018.
Through the Social Dialogue and Industrial Relations (SDIR) Project, ILO, Denmark and Sweden support Bangladesh’s efforts to promote social dialogue in the RMG sector.
Syed Ahmed, Additional Secretary (International Organization), currently in charge of Secretary for the Ministry of Labour and Employment was the chief guest at the event.
Ambassador of Sweden to Bangladesh Charlotta Schlyter, Ambassador designate of Denmark to Bangladesh Winnie Estrup Petersen and, Director General of the Department of Labour Shib Nath Roy were also present at the event.
ILO Country Director for Bangladesh Tuomo Poutiainen moderated the roundtable discussion held at the Swedish Ambassador’s residence in the city.
