3 ‘drug traders’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’
Three suspected drug traders were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Tulatoli in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar district early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Nur Alam, 45, son of Julur Mulluk, a resident of Konapara Rohingya camp in Bandarban district, Hamid, 25, a resident of Balukhali Rohingya camp and Najir Hossain, 25, son of Syed Hossain of Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-34 conducted a drive near Goda Bridge around 3:45 am and challenged a group of people numbering 10-12, said Ali Haider Azad Ahmed, commanding officer of BGB-34.
Sensing presence of the border guards, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defense that triggered the gunfight.
After a brief gunfight, the BGB members arrested three criminals with bullet wounds and took them to a local hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Two BGB men were also injured during the gunfight, he said.
Three lakh Yaba pills, two pipe guns and five cartridges were recovered from the spot.

In another incident, Shanta Roy, 22, son of Tonkonath Ropy of Razadighi in Ranishankoil upazila, was killed as a streak of thunderbolt hit him while he was catching fish in a water body during rain, said sub-inspector of Ranishankoil Police Station Ahsan Habib.
‘Drug trader’ killed in Pabna ‘gunfight’
A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Par Karamja in Satthia upazila early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Sobhan, 40, son of Abdur Rashid of Karamja Sardarpara village.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2:30 pm, said Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, superintendent of Pabna Police.
Sensing the presence of police, the criminals opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back in self-defense.
Sobhan was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injury while the others managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was taken to Bera Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
Two policemen were injured during the gunfight.
Sobhan was wanted in eleven criminal cases, said police.
One shutter gun, one cartridge, one sharp weapon, two mobile phone sets and a small amount of hemp and heroin were recovered from the possession of Sobhan, he said.
