Two Phenomenal Desserts at El Patron
When talking about desserts, limited number of restaurants and cafes strike our minds. Some of them (but not limited to) are Butlers Chocolate Café, Tabaq, The SweetSin Coffees, Secret Recipe, and The White Canary Café. However, many restaurants go unnoticed in terms of their desserts and, I believe, El Patron is definitely one of them.
Milkshakes That Didn’t Bring Me To The Yard
When Moolicious’s posts started popping up on my Facebook and Instagram feed, I was ecstatic about the fact that finally, apart from Johnny Rockets and a few other places, a place serving proper milkshakes. But to my dismay, this place failed to live up to the hype they created.
Relaunching of Yue Kee Central
A few months back when I visited Yue Kee Central, I came back as a disappointed customer but after their re-opening they managed to bounce back quite well! To start off, their interior is all baby blue and floral making it quite an Instagram-worthy spot! They also have an outdoor balcony seating arrangement overlooking Abahani field and honestly, the view of Dhaka city from there is breathtaking!
He Zhangwen, preserving old taste of Sichuan street food
Chengdu, Oct 23 (Xinhua/UNB) -- He Zhangwen, 64, is slightly hunchbacked and not particularly fond of smiling. Wearing a grey-striped T-shirt and a brown apron, he is the linchpin of the tiny baked egg pancake shop "The He's" in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.
Jafran: A hot pick for college students
Jafran opened back in 2016 with the idea of bringing Hyderabadi and Afghani Biryanis to customers at an affordable price compared to the others in Dhaka. Little did they know exactly how popular their food would become amongst students around Bashundhara Residential area. Not only does this “multi-cuisine” restaurant sell aforementioned biryanis but they also serve an array of kebabs, curries, and bread to satisfy the palates.
Can Dhaka XO compete with proper steak houses?
If there’s one restaurant that I have seen the most reviews online on, it has got to be Dhaka XO. Every food related group or page has great reviews on that place. Their Ramen has been making rounds ever since Shyamoli Square Market has opened with some people even comparing it to the authentic Japanese Ramen. Tucked away in a messy and highly unhygienic food court, 3 of us found ourselves a seat inside Dhaka XO. However, we had come for a completely different dish.
A Glass Canopy brings natural light into Bay’s Park Heights - The Courtyard
Courtyard- a term usually denoting an enclosed, open to sky space, has often been a design feature in most architectural masterpieces all around the world. Its initiation is from our rural roots, where no cluster of houses lacked “উঠান”. However, with the rapid urban sprawl, the concept of courtyard had been replaced with rigid skyscrapers. Presently, the concept of courtyard is regaining popularity in spatial design in an attempt to bring in a part of the open into the built environment. Bay’s Park Heights in Dhanmondi is an example on how to create sellable open spaces for the public in spite of being a commercial building. Almost hidden within the site, the park side plaza of this building houses “The Courtyard” that offers a unique leisure space amidst the monotonous concrete jungle.

The Ticket to Katz’s Deli
If you are a big fan of sandwiches or meat, there’s a high chance you have heard of Katz’s Delicatessen. Located at East Houston Street in New York City, this Deli has been around since 1888 and was made popular by the immigrants who would gather there on Fridays to enjoy beans and franks. Fast forward a few hundred years, Katz’s now holds multiple awards among which the biggest one is perhaps their name on the Bib Gourmand list. According to the Michelin website the Bib Gourmand list spotlights restaurants that serve “high-quality meals which include two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less.” Thus, when I visited New York last summer, I made it a must to try their famous Pastrami Sandwich.
Pizza Guy: New Menu, New Location
I always avail the unlimited pizza offer during Ramadan (guilty). So when I had moved to Dhaka back in 2016, Pizza Guy was one of the most hyped places to redeem the unlimited pizzas and soft drinks offer. However, the experience at their Banani Branch back then was underwhelming to say the least. The crust was getting thicker with every order and the toppings were decreasing. I wasn’t willing to pay so much for mediocre pizzas with other great pizza places existing.
