MoFA marks Sheikh Kamal's 73rd birth anniversary
Dhaka, Aug 5 (UNB) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Friday arranged a discussion, marking the 73rd birth anniversary of Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman joined the discussion as the chief guest. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam chaired the event at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, who is in Cambodia on an official visit, sent a video message on the occasion.

Tajuddin Ahmad remembered on his birthday
Bangladesh Awami League (AL), the ruling political party, remembered Tajuddin Ahmad, the country’s first Prime Minister and AL’s General Secretary during the liberation war, on the latter’s 97th birthday on Saturday.
AL paid respect to the late leader through a post on the party’s verified facebook page, which read, “July 23 is the birthday of Bangladesh’s first Prime Minister, a close aide of Father of The Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League during the liberation war Tajuddin Ahmad. We pay deep respect to Bangataj (Tajuddin of Bengal) on his birthday.”
A video was also shared from the AL”s facebook page, which presented a short biography of Tajuddin Ahmad, including his life events and his political struggles and contributions.
Sohel Taj, Tajuddin Ahmad’s son, also recalled his father through sharing a video post from his verified facebook page, which showed the latter’s activities during the liberation war in 1971.
Tajuddin Ahmad was born on this day in 1925 at Dardaria village under Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila. He was the son of Moulvi Muhammad Yasin Khan and Meherunnesa Khan.

Tajuddin stepped into politics in 1943 by joining the then Pakistan Muslim League (PML). He was one of the founding members of East Pakistan Chhatra League (now Bangladesh Chhatra League), which was born on January 4, 1948.
Tajuddin was also a founding member of East Pakistan Jubo League (now Bangladesh Jubo League) and was a member of its executive committee from 1951 to 1953. Tajuddin joined East Pakistan Awami League (now Bangladesh Awami League) in 1953 and was elected the party’s General Secretary thrice.
Tajuddin played the role of Prime Minister of the expatriate Beangladesh government during the 1971 liberation war, which made him the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh. After the liberation war, Tajuddin acted as the Finance Minister of Bangladesh till 1974.
Tajuddin Ahmed was a student of Dhaka University (DU). He obtained a bachelor in Economics from the university in 1950, and passed the L.L.B exams in 1964.
Tajuddin was detained with three other national leaders (AHM Qamaruzzaman, Muhammad Mansur Ali and Sayed Nazrul Islam) after the gruesome killing of Bangabandhu and his family members on August 15, 1975.
Tajuddin was killed along with the other national leaders in the hands of some unruly military officers inside his prison cell on November 3, 1975.
Tajuddin Ahmed would stand tall in the nation’s darkest hours: CRI
Paying respect to Bangladesh’s first prime minister on his birth anniversary, the Centre for Research and Information (CRI) on Saturday said Tajuddin Ahmed would stand tall in the nation’s darkest hours.
Tajuddin Ahmed is remembered for his farsighted leadership, it said.
"His belief in politics as a tool for public welfare was demonstrated through numerous examples he set in his lifetime," said the CRI in a Facebook post shared from its verified page.
The CRI also shared a four-minute video on Tajuddin Ahmed.
July 23 marks the 97th birth anniversary of Tajuddin Ahmad, a close associate of Bangabandhu and general secretary of Awami League during the Liberation War.

Queen’s birthday celebrated in city pledging to boost girls’ life chances
British High Commission in Dhaka has celebrated Queen’s birthday party after a gap of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic and vowed to boost girls’ life chances allowing them to dream big for the future.
This year, the event held on Wednesday evening had a special significance as Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her platinum jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury joined the reception celebrating the birthday party as guest of honour.
British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson said the Queen has been an “incredible source” of strength for the UK and the Commonwealth through a period of enormous change.

Birthday wishes pour in as Radwan Mujib turns 42
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s grandson Radwan Mujib Siddiq, credited with connecting young changemakers trough Young Bangla platform, turned 42 on Saturday.
The son of Bangabandhu's younger daughter Sheikh Rehana received an overwhelming volume of wishes from ministers, politicians, and entrepreneurs on social media.
The nonprofit Centre for Research & Information (CRI) and its youth secretariat Young Bangla, where he had initiated an array of projects to enhance innovation and networking of youths also greeted him on his birthday.
Born on May 21, 1980, CRI trustee Radwan is the eldest among three siblings. His father Shafique Ahmed teaches at globally renowned universities.

A London School of Economics graduate in political science, he later completed his post-graduation in comparative politics. He currently edits the country's first policy-based magazine WhiteBoard.
His works mainly revolve around empowering youths, who account for a staggering one-third of the country's population.
Commonly known as a 'mentor' among youths, Radwan advocates for youth engagement in every sector, urging everyone to entrust youths with more leadership roles.
Radwan is acclaimed for reviving youth's interest in history through a spectrum of creative initiatives including Joy Bangla Youth Award (named after the historic wartime slogan Joy Bangla), Joy Bangla concert, Hasina: A Daughter's Tale, and Mujib Graphic Novel.
In his interaction with youths, he shares the bitter experiences he came across in the post-1975 Bangladesh where military dictators attempted to wipe out the history of the father of the nation.
Radwan talked about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s future role in Bangladeshi politics in a scathing critique of the interim government’s democratic credentials in an interview with British broadcaster David Frost’s “Frost over the World” show on Al Jazeera during the 2007-08 military-backed caretaker government.

On the occasion of his 42nd birthday, CRI's Facebook account posted, "A very happy birthday to our honorable trustee Radwan Mujib Siddiq. We wish you good health and happiness."
"Wishing a very happy birthday to our mentor and CRI trustee Radwan Mujib Siddiq. Young Bangla appreciates your guidance and relentless efforts towards youth development," wrote the page of Young Bangla.
Chakaria OC suspended for celebrating birthday with fugitive accused
Officer-In-Charge of Chakaria police station Muhammad Osman Gani has been suspended for celebrating his birthday at his office with some fugitive accused.
Md Hasanuzzaman, Superintendent of Cox’s Bazar police confirmed the matter to UNB Thursday afternoon.
He was suspended as the police force’s image was hampered after photos of OC Gani’s birthday celebration with some fugitive accused at the police station went viral on social media recently and evoked controversy, said Md Rafiqul Islam, Additional Superintendent of police.

OC Osman Gani has been attached to Cox’s bazar Police Lines, he said.
On March 2, the OC celebrated his birthday by cutting a cake at Chakaria police station.
In the viral photos, two absconding accused of a muder attempt case- Arhan, Alif -and some others were seen standing beside the OC and feeding him cake.

The UNB reporter could not contact OC Gani for a comment after several attempts.
‘Life is beautiful’, says Fakhrul as he turns 74
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir turned 74 on Wednesday with birthday wishes pouring in for him.
As in previous years, the BNP leader’s birthday was marked by wishes from family members and party leaders and activists.
Fakhrul woke up in the morning with his elder daughter Mirza Shamaruh wising him ‘happy birthday’ followed by his sister Anarkali Farhad Banu Nagina Amin, the wife of ex-Army Chief Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman.

Talking to UNB, the BNP leader said there was no formal programme to celebrate the birthday, but his relatives, friends, and party leader and activists from home and abroad wished him on the occasion.
“I usually don’t celebrate my birthday. I woke up in the morning with the phone call of my elder daughter from Australia and she wished me. Then my sister, younger daughter also phoned me saying, ‘Happy birthday,” he said.
Fakhrul said though he recovered from Covid after being tested positive for the virus on January 10, he is still very week.
He said their party acting chairman Tarique Rahman, party senior leaders, friends and well-wishers also wished him on his birthday. “This is how my birthday is passing by.”
Asked about his feelings on the occasion, Fakhrul said, “Birthday means I lost another year from my life and my days on earth are now numbered. As I now turned 74, you can say it’s a long journey for me and I’ve seen many things…I’ve found the means to survive. Life is beautiful to me!”
But the BNP leader bemoaned that the people of Bangladesh have long been going through a bad time. “I strongly believe a positive change will come and the bad days will end. The people of Bangladesh never ultimately get defeated.”
Fakhrul was born on January 26, 1948 in Thakurgaon. His father late Mirza Ruhul Amin was a Muslim League leader and a minister of the Pakistan government.
Fakhrul, who had involvement with left politics during his student life, completed his graduation and post-graduation from Dhaka University’s Economics department.

Later, he took up teaching as his profession through the BCS examination. Fakhrul quit teaching during the 80s and joined politics formally.
He was elected MP from Thakurgaon-1 with BNP’s ticket in 2001 and then made a state minister. He was also elected MP from Bogura-6 seat in the 11th parliamentary election. But he did not take oath yet as BNP rejected the election results.
Fakhrul was made acting secretary general of BNP after the death of party’s then secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain in 2011. He was given the full charge of the party’s secretary general position five years later in 2016.
CRI greets Saima Wazed on her birthday
The Centre for Research and Information (CRI), a policy research organisation, greeted its vice-chairperson Saima Wazed on her birthday Thursday.
"Happy birthday to our Vice-Chairperson Saima Wazed," CRI wrote in a post on its verified Facebook page.

PM greets Modi on his birthday
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has greeted her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on his birthday.
Bangladesh High Commission officials in New Delhi handed over a flower bouquet on behalf of the prime minister on Friday, said the mission.

President, PM greet British Queen on her birthday
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have greeted British Queen Elizabeth II on her 95th birthday which falls on the second Saturday in June.
In separate messages sent on June 12, both the President and the Prime Minister wished her good health, happiness, and long life, and the continued peace, progress and prosperity to the friendly people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, said the Bangladesh High Commission in London.
President Hamid, in his message, said: “I take this opportunity to renew my pledge to work closely with Your Majesty to further strengthen and broaden the existing bonds of friendship between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom particularly as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our diplomatic relations through 2021-22.”

Prime Minister Hasina, in her message, said: “On this momentous occasion, I pay a special tribute to Your Majesty for the exemplary grace, duty, and service with which you have served your nation and the Commonwealth for the past seven decades.
