Shakib Al Hasan's team won their first victory against the English on Thursday in the 20-over format. Bangladesh vs England 2nd T20I Match: Preview
Since the T20 inception, Bangladesh has already played 145 matches in the T20 format. The Tigers have faced England only two times. In the first encounter, Shakib's team lost the match by 8 wickets in the 2021 T20 World Cup. However, Bangladesh started this tour with a 2-1 loss in the three-match ODI series.
But Bangladesh got a good start in the T20 series with a win in the first match in Chittagong. Now the team will play their second match in Dhaka on Sunday. However, many members of the English champion team are not in this series. As the series is against a relatively less strong team like Bangladesh, they are giving some new cricketers a chance. This is the first time England's T20I team playing a series after becoming the world champions. And they already lost the first match, so they will surely try to get back in the series with a win in the second match.

Considering England as a strong team, Bangladesh has made some significant changes in the T20 team. Apparently, coach Chandika Hathurusingha begins his T20 world journey with this series. So, the Bangladesh team will make some shuffle or add moves based on this series and upcoming series. This T20 squad has been built mainly on the basis of BPL performance. Three Batters – Rony Talukdar, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain; Pacer Rejaur Rahman Raja and left-arm spinner Tanvir Ahmed played well in the BPL and made it to the national team.
On the other hand, England's T20I team features Ben Duckett and Chris Jordan to boost their firepower, yet Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Alex Hales, and Liam Livingstone are absent, causing Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha to refer to it as an "experimental" squad.
The English team will expect a good performance from Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, and Ben Duckett, as they had a good performance in the first match. However, Dawid Malan may also come to the limelight in the second T20 as he is familiar with the Mirpur field.

Key Players for Bangladesh Team
After an eight-year absence, Rony Talukdar made his return to international cricket. This is an extraordinary comeback for Rony, where a player's career is usually over after being dropped from the team. And Rony did not let the team down. He scored 21 runs in 14 balls, which is a good performance in T20.
After Rony, Najmul Hossain Shanto will get focus as he played an excellent inning with 51 runs in 30 balls. The left-handed batsman is the hero of Bangladesh's victory in the first T20 against England. So, fans have increased their expectations from Shanto.
Key Players for England
The English team was expecting a good performance from Phil Salt in the T20I series, yet he had only made 54 runs in the three ODIs, and 37 runs in two ODIs against Australia in November. His last notable performance was a remarkable 88 ran off 41 balls in a T20I in Lahore against Pakistan in September last year. It's now time for him to get some runs again.

Key Bowlers in Bangladesh Team in 2023 BAN v ENG Series
Mehidy Hasan Miraz
Since his white ball debut against England on October 20, 2016, Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been showing his excellence with the ball. The English batsmen were completely taken aback by the power of his delivery, as he took six wickets in the first innings in his debut test.
However, Miraz is yet to play any T20 against England. In his last two ODI matches with England, Miraz took 4 wickets, which indicates that he understood the English batsmen’s tactics. So, going up against England in the T20 will surely motivate Miraz to perform to the best of his abilities.

Bangladesh Squad Analysis in 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup
Nigar Sultana will lead the Tigresses at this year’s T20 World Cup, with Hashan Tillakaratne as head coach. This marks the fifth time Bangladesh has taken part in this tournament, having first competed in 2014 when they hosted. The team earned their place in the main event by winning the qualifier tournament in the UAE last year, beating Thailand in the semifinals and Ireland in the final.
The Bangladesh squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup has several players from their victorious U19 team. Shorna Akter, Marufa Akter, and Disha Biswas were all part of the side that shocked Australia U19 on the first day of the tournament, winning by a convincing seven wickets. Their success continued, and the team made it to the Super Six stage, ultimately finishing third in the group.

Key Strength of the Bangladesh Team
The presence of the most recent U19 performers, such as Shorna Akter, Disha Biswas, and Marufa Akter, will surely boost the confidence of the Bangladesh team. Having them on the team will not only benefit the team’s performance, but it will also give the players a chance to gain experience from playing at the top level of cricket. They will be able to get accustomed to the competitive atmosphere and will be able to gain invaluable knowledge from it.
Nigar Sultana’s leadership is also another significant strength for the Bangladesh Women’s cricket team. As an experienced player, she brings a lot of positivity, calm, and composure to the Bangladesh setup. Her performances will be crucial for Bangladesh, and her captaincy skills will be on display for everyone to see.

In addition to that, Nigar Sultana’s leadership and determination to succeed have made her a true idol to admire. So far, she has played 69 T20I matches and scored 1,225 runs with a 24.50 batting average. So, it is expected that Nigar Sultana’s batting and wicket keeping performance will surely help the Bangladesh team.
Further, winning the qualifier will also work as a confidence booster. Having won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier, the team is looking to make a strong impression in the group-stage matches. With confidence and determination, Bangladesh is ready to show the world what they are capable of.
Apart from these confidence-boosting opportunities, bowlers Salma Khatun and Jahanara Alam will also play a key role in the team. Salma started her T20I career with her debut against Ireland on August 28, 2012.
In June 2018, she had the honor of being a part of Bangladesh’s first-ever Women’s Asia Cup title. She was subsequently named captain of Bangladesh’s 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament squad. She appeared in 91 T20I matches and took 84 wickets with 4/6 best bowling figures.

On the other hand, Jahanara Alam played 75 T20I matches and grabbed 57 wickets with a 21.75 bowling average. In October 2018, Salma Khatun was included in Bangladesh’s squad for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies.
During the tournament, she topped the wicket-taking charts for Bangladesh, claiming six wickets in four matches. After the tournament ended, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named her as the standout player in the team. So, Jahanara Alam is one of the top strengths of the Bangladesh team.
Weakness of the Bangladesh Team
Bangladesh has encountered several defeats leading up to the World Cup. This may lower the confidence level. They were crushed by New Zealand in a T20I series, losing all three matches. During the Asia Cup, the team was disappointed with the results, and this may have downgraded their spirits.
In addition to that, Bangladesh’s batters have been struggling with a low strike rate, which is a major source of worry in the T20I format. This game requires quick decisions and a fast-paced approach, leaving no room for weakness.

Bangladesh’s success relies heavily on its experienced players; however, for the team to reach its full potential, younger, less experienced players need to step up and make an impact. The failure of senior players may cost a loss for the team. The World Cup is an opportunity for them to prove their worth and show the world what they are capable of. The team’s collective strength will be tested, and this could be a turning point for Bangladesh.
Prospect of Bangladesh in the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup
Ahead of the tournament, Bangladesh has had two warm-up fixtures against Ireland. In the first match, Jahanara Alam shined with four wickets, and the team secured a five-wicket triumph. Unfortunately, the second match resulted in an eight-wicket defeat for Bangladesh.
To further prepare for the tournament, Bangladesh had two more practice games against Pakistan on February 6 and India on February 8. Pakistan Women’s team won by 6 wickets in the first warm up match. Bangladesh also lost to India. Team India won the warm up match by 52 runs.
Hence, these matches may resemble Bangladesh’s preparation. And any match with the big team may give a hard time to the Bangladesh team. Bangladesh will play against Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Since these teams are stronger, Bangladesh may face difficulties in winning over them. Hence, Bangladesh has less chance to proceed to the semifinal.

PSL will continue during England’s tour of Bangladesh. The franchise is having a big impact on this tour because the ECB does not refrain from cricketers who are outside the central contract playing in these leagues. Rather, they are given the freedom to choose. That’s why Hales, Billings, Dawson, and Vince are not available.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the decision of the cricketers not wanting to come to Bangladesh has been positively taken by the ECB. In the absence of so many stars, England will see several new faces playing. In particular, some of England’ A’ team players were called up for this tour.

England has included uncapped Somerset batsman Tom Abell in both T20 and ODI teams. Abell, who captains the England Lions one-day team against Sri Lanka, recently competed in SA20 in South Africa. Abell is a middle-order batsman who can bowl as well.
In County Championship 2022, he topped Somerset’s batting charts with 1039 runs and a remarkable average of 51.95. Additionally, in December, he participated in Sri Lanka’s domestic T20 league, the Lanka Premier League.
Key Bowlers
England’s new upcoming star spinner Rehan Ahmed has been called up for the first time to the white-ball squads after an impressive Test debut at Karachi in December, where he took seven wickets at an average of 19.57. With his test debut, Rehan became the England men’s youngest Test debutant.

Further, he achieved a remarkable record on the third day of the match, becoming the youngest debutant to claim five wickets in a single innings in men’s Test cricket. Rehan’s chance in the ODI team will give him the opportunity to establish himself as the permanent spinner for England to replace Adil Rashid for the long term and to make a strong case for his selection for the ODI and T20 World Cups in 2023 and 2024.
Pacer Saqib Mahmood got a recall to the squad after playing his last Test match against West Indies last year. So far, he has taken 14 wickets in ODI cricket, with an average of 19.92. He is mainly a right-arm fast bowler, and he debuted for England in the international Twenty20 in November 2019, followed by his Test debut in March 2022.
In April 2019, Mahmood achieved a milestone for Lancashire by becoming the first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in successive List A matches during the 2019 Royal London One-Day Cup. Two years later, he accomplished a similar record in first-class cricket, taking 5/47 during the 2021 County Championship match against Yorkshire.

Jofra Archer was also included in the T20 and ODI squad after his recent comeback against South Africa. Archer’s international debut was in May 2019 and he was also a part of the 2019 Cricket World Cup winning team.
After that, he made his Test debut in the following summer against Australia in the Ashes series 2019. Archer’s achievements were recognized in April 2020 when he was named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year.
Key Allrounder
Sam Curran will be a key player for the English team in the Bangladesh tour. He was the star of the 2022 T20 World Cup, taking the most wickets for England and being named Player of the Tournament. As a left-handed all-rounder, he bowls medium-fast and holds the English record for the best T20I figures of 5-10 against Afghanistan in 2022. So, it is evident that Curran will play a key role in the upcoming series as he is in the top form of his career.

Bangladesh will face South Africa and the United Arab Emirates in the Super Six stage on January 21 and 25, respectively. So far, Bangladesh’s U 19 women’s team has had a great performance with their unbeaten streak in the world cup. However, Bangladesh may face difficulties against South Africa. Although they lost one match in the group stage against India, South Africa tends to take more runs and be consistent compared to other teams in the tournaments except for India.
On the other hand, Bangladesh tends to play mixing the defending and attacking cricket. As a result, Bangladesh is able to play 20 overs without losing many wickets. As a result, if Bangladesh can keep up its group stage performance, the tigress can win the match against South Africa.
On the other hand, Bangladesh should get an easy win against the United Arab Emirates. UAE won only one game in the group stage, and comparatively, they are weaker than the Bangladesh team.

Group 1
New Zealand are in a strong position in the points standings to finish top of Group 1. They have five points with better run rates than England and Australia. The Kiwi side will face Ireland in their final group stage fixture and will advance to the next round if they simply beat them.
England and Australia will likely battle it out for the second spot in this group. Both have 5 points each, but England ahead of Australia thanks to better run rates. England will take on Sri Lanka in their final group phase fixtures, while Australia will face Afghanistan.
In a realistic point of view, Sri Lanka have a better chance to beat England than Afghanistan have to overcome Australia. The reigning champions, Australia, will be hoping for Sri Lanka to defeat England in their final fixture so that they can advance to the next phase by beating Afghanistan.
On the other hand, England will qualify for the next phase if they beat Sri Lanka. The Lankan side is in fourth place with 4 points, and they have a chance if they beat England. But at the same time, Australia have to lose their fixture against Afghanistan in order for Sri Lanka to advance to the next phase.
Besides, Ireland and Afghanistan have no chance to move on to the semifinals as they are in the fifth and sixth positions, respectively, with 3 and 2 points each.

Group 2
India are currently at the top of the points table with 6 points after four games, and they will advance to the semifinal phase should they win against Zimbabwe in their final fixture of the Super 12 Round.
South Africa are in the second position with 5 points and will have two matches left against Pakistan and the Netherlands, respectively. The Proteas side is the hot favourite to finish in the top two in the standings as they have a strong run rate.
Bangladesh are in third position with 4 points and can have 6 points if they beat Pakistan in their final fixture on November 6. On the other hand, Pakistan can earn as many as 6 points if they win their final two fixtures against South Africa and Bangladesh, respectively.
Both Bangladesh and Pakistan have an outside chance to finish in the top two of the points table, but that completely depends on the outcomes of India and South Africa’s fixtures. Besides, Zimbabwe and the Netherlands are currently in the fourth and sixth positions, respectively. These two teams have no chance of making it to the knockout stage.
