Global Covid cases near 600 million
The overall number of Covid cases is approaching 600 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 599,700,821 and the death toll reached 6,469,464 on Saturday morning.
The US has recorded 95,324,830 cases so far and 1,065,515 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
India's daily Covid-19 caseload increased to 15,754 during the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,314,618 in the country, the federal health ministry said on Friday.
With the fresh cases, India's active caseload currently stands at 101,830.
The country also logged 47 related deaths during the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 527,253, the ministry said.
New coronavirus cases reported globally dropped nearly a quarter in the last week while deaths fell 6% but were still higher in parts of Asia, according to a report Thursday on the pandemic by the World Health Organization.

The UN health agency said there were 5.4 million new Covid-19 cases reported last week, a decline of 24% from the previous week. Infections fell everywhere in the world, including by nearly 40% in Africa and Europe and by a third in the Middle East.
Covid deaths rose in the Western Pacific and Southeast Asia by 31% and 12% respectively, but fell or remained stable everywhere else.
At a press briefing Wednesday, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said reported coronavirus deaths over the past month have surged 35%, and noted there had been 15,000 deaths in the past week.

The daily case test positivity rate dropped to 4.09 percent from Sunday's 4.32 percent as 6, 336 samples were tested.

The overall number of Covid cases has now surged past 594 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 594,049,752 and the death toll reached 6,451,846 on Saturday morning.
The US has recorded 94,643,632 cases so far and 1,062,151 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
India's daily Covid-19 caseload Friday increased to 16,561, taking the total tally to 44,223,557 in the country, according to federal health ministry data.
Friday's new cases marked an increase in comparison to the daily caseload of Thursday, which was 16,299.

South Korea reported 55,292 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Sunday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 20,544,420, the health authorities said Monday.
The daily caseload was down from 105,507 the previous day due to fewer virus tests on the weekend, but it was higher than 44,654 tallied a week earlier, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. Twenty-nine more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 25,292.
