Man held for killing wife and son in Gazipur
A 55-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife and teenage son to death in Gazipur, police said on Tuesday.
The arrestee has been identified as Md Mofiz, a rickshaw puller hailing from Rambhadrapur village in Mymensingh.
"He was arrested around 11pm on Monday from a rickshaw garage in the capital's Noyatola Ambagh area in Tejgaon," said Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Gacha police station.

On Sunday, Mofiz allegedly stabbed his wife Rahima Begum (40) and their son Rokon (16) to death in the Kalmeshwar area of Gazipur over a family feud.
He had been absconding since the crime and had even shaved his beard to hide his identity, said OC Ismail.

On Monday afternoon, a murder case was filed at Gacha police station on a complaint from Rahima’s brother Rashedul Islam. "Subsequently, we nabbed him," the OC said.
TCB goods recovered from Gazipur market godown; trader arrested
Police arrested a trader on Sunday night after recovering essential goods of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) from his godown in Gazipur that was to be sold at a subsidised price by the government to the poor.
The arrestee was identified as Md Shahin, 33.
Ismail Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Gacha police station said Shahin was arrested during a drive conducted at Alhaz Mohor Khan Waqf Estate market at Board Bazar area following a tip off.

During the drive at Sabbir-Shahin godown in the market, 2 liters each 37 bottles of edible oil, 37 packet sugar and 37 packets pulse with TCB packaging were recovered.
In primary questioning Shahin said Jahangir Alamand Rafiq, office assistants of Abdullah Al Mamun Mandal, ward-35 councilor have sold him the TCB goods, said OC Ismail Hossain.
“ Shamim said the office staffers of the ward-35 councilor sold oil at Tk 150 per litre, sugar at Tk 60 per Kg, pulse at Tk 70 per Kg to him and some other traders. We are conducting an investigation in this regard,” said the OC.

To interrogate the accused a seven day remand will be sought after producing him before court, he said.
Meanwhile local sources said on Sunday, the first day of TCB sale through family cards , many listed families of ward-35 had to return empty handed at the early end of the sale at the councilor's office.
Man ‘kills wife, son’ in Gazipur
A woman and her son were allegedly hacked to death by her husband over family feud at Board Bazar in Gazipur early Monday.
The deceased were identified as Rahima, 38, wife of rickshaw puller Mofiz of Tangail district and their son Rokon, 17.
Locals alleged Mofiz hacked Rahima and Rokon to death around 1am at his house in Board Bazar area and fled the scene immediately.

Deceased’s relative said Mofiz used to torture Rahima.
Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gachha Police Station, said the bodies were sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Efforts are on to arrest Mofiz, the OC added.
Nigerian female prisoner dies at Dhaka hospital
A Nigerian female inmate of Kashimpur Women's Central Jail died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Chidimma Abelf, 26.

Halima Khatun, senior jail super of Kashimpur Women's Central Jail, said Chidimma was taken to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital on March 16 after falling ill.
Later she was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday as her condition deteriorated where she died while undergoing treatment on Friday, added jail super Halima.
Chidimma Abelf had been lodged in the Kashimpur jail after being arrested in a Digital Security Act case filed against her, she added.

"The entry to the park is free, but visitors will have to pay the charges fixed for separate events inside the park," said the director of the safari park, Rezaul Karim.
The safari park entry fee is Tk 50 for adults and Tk 20 for children above five years. Some 4,500-5,000 people visit the park daily.
Meanwhile, a doa mahfil and milad will be held at the mosque of the park after Zohr prayer seeking salvation of the departed soul of Bangabandhu.

Gazipur college girl allegedly stabbed for saying no to marriage proposal
A female college student in Sreepur upazila in Gazipur was stabbed on Thursday allegedly by a youth for turning down his marriage proposal.
The injured girl, a resident of Barmi union was admitted to the upazila health complex in a critical condition, said her family.

The accused is Mamun Mia,22, son of Asgar ali of Maijpara village in Barmi union.
Girl’s cousin brother said, two years ago Mamun’s family sent a marriage proposal to her family but they refused.
Since, Mamun tried to cause harm to the girl several times.
On Thursday, Mamun allegedly attacked the girl with a knife finding her alone on way back home. Locals took her to hospital, said the victim’s family.

Mahfuz Imtiaz Bhiyan, Inspector (investigation) of Sreepur police station said,” I was informed of the incident but we can take legal actions after a complaint is filed.”
2 arrested for raping teenager in Gazipur
Members of rapid Action Battalion (RAb) arrested two men on Sunday night in a case filed over raping a 15-year old girl after abduction in Gazipur.
The arrestees are Harun Ur Rashid, 28, and Shipon, 32, said Major SM Maidul Islam, company Commander of Rab-1.

The accused were arrested from Sonatala Bazar area in Kaliakair upazila during a drive, he said.
On March 1, the accused abducted the victim from in front of her house in Sonatala village under Kaliakair police station in Gazipur and raped her several times.
On March 4, the victim was rescued by locals and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after her condition deteriorated.
Rab Porabari camp started a shadow investigation to arrest the accused after the victim's sister filed a case in this regard at Kaliakair police station under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

“In primary interrogation the accused confessed to abducting the girl and raping her keeping hostage at a cotton godown owned by Anwar Hossain at Sonatala area”, said Major SM Maidul Islam.
Fire at Gazipur garment factory brought under control
The fire at a garment factory in Gazipur’s Kaliakoir has been brought under control.
Fruday's fire was reported at Divine Fabrics’ two-storey building in front of the Palli Bidyut Office at around 4.08 pm, said Kashimpur DBL Fire Service Ware House Inspector Mirajul Islam.

On information, eight firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control at 6:43pm, they said.
However, no casualties have yet been reported.

Workers were not inside as the factory was closed on Friday, he said.
Husband among 3 detained over woman's death in Gazipur
Three persons have been detained in connection with the death of a 25-year-old woman in Gazipur, police said on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Ripa Akter, the wife of local factory worker Alamin (30), and a resident of the Bonmala area.
Police suspect Ripa was suffocated to death by the three suspects, including Alamin, on Thursday night over a family feud.

"She was rushed to Shahid Ahsan Ullah Memorial Hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival," said Sajal, sub-inspector at Tongi south police station.

The body was sent for an autopsy, while the woman's husband, father-in-law Abul Kalam
and brother-in-law Alauddin have been detained for questioning, the officer said.
Newly wed couple found hanging in Gazipur house
A newly wed couple was found hanging from the ceiling of their house in the Safipur area of Gazipur's Kaliakoir upazila on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Akash Hossain, 21, son of Rahidul Islam, and his wife Salma Akter, 18, of Safipur Dakkhinpara area of the upazila.
According to locals, Akash and Salma got married two months back and had been living in the house since then.

In fact, the locals peeped through the window of the house and found the two hanging, said Saiful Alam, sub-inspector at Kaliakoir Police Station.
On information, police recovered the bodies after breaking open the house door and sent the same to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
“The couple might have committed suicide. Their autopsy reports are awaited,” he said.
