BPL Football: Swadhinata KS upset Bashundhara Kings 2-1 in opener
Newcomer Swadhinata Krira Sangha made a biggest upset in the opening match of the 12-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football beating last two times champions Bashundhara Kings by 2-1 goal at Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Stadium in Tongi on Thursday.
Bosnian striker Nedo Turkovic put the Swadhinata KS ahead in the 25th minute from a penalty (1-0).
Newcomer Swadhinata KS got the spot kick when Kings midfielder Atiqur Rahman Fahad committed handball in the danger zone .

Local forward Rasel Ahmed doubled the margin for Swadhinata KS in the 47th minute with the frustration of big budgeted B Kings (2-0).
Bashundhara Kings, which looking for a hattrick championship this time, started their league campaign with frustrating note conceding two goals in a row and fielded four substitute players in the match tó change game.
But, the Kings failed to avoid the shameful defeat despite local forward Tawhidul Alam Sabuz reduced the margin scoring a goal in the 73rd minute (2-1).
Once triple crown holders Bashindhara Kings is passing very bad time recently as they suffered a shocking defeat in the day's opener after depriving of the season's two major soccer trophies--Independent Cup and Federation Cup Football.

In the day's other match, three times champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club made a good start defeating Uttar Baridhara Club by 2-1 goal at Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
Gambian forward Suleiman Sillah scored first for Sheikh Jamal in the 11th minute while Nigerian booter Matthew Chinedu doubled the margin in the stoppage time of the first half (45+2 minute).
Uzbek booter Y .Kochnev pulled the Uttar Baridhara margin one back in the 68th minute from a penalty (2-1).
On Friday, six times champions Dhaka Abahani Ltd will face Muktijoddha Sangsad KC at 3pm in Tongi while Saif Sporting Club will encounter Bangladesh Police FC at 3 pm in Munshiganj.
The eleven- round first phase matches will be held from February 3 to March 19/20 in two venues adjoining the capital-- Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Stadium inTongi Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
AFC Cup: Bashundhara Kings drawn in Group D with South Asian counterparts
The ceremonial draw of the AFC Cup 2022 was held on Monday (Jan 17) at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with 39 teams drawn in nine groups of four teams and one group with three teams.
The BPL champions Basundhara Kings are in four-team Group D along Gokulam Kerala of India, Maziya SRC of the Maldives and the winners of South Asian play-off match.
The matches will be held from May 19-24 at a central venue.

Bangladesh Federation Cup champions Dhaka Abahani Ltd will also play in the AFC Cup’ 2022 in the play-off stage of preliminary round as the 2nd Bangladesh team.
They will play the winners of Valencia of Maldives and Paro FC of Bhutan in their first preliminary round match on April 12.

Bashundhara Kings, which took part in the last AFC Cup, but failed to overcome the group stage while Dhaka Abahani Ltd reached the zonal semifinal of the AFC Cup as the first Bangladesh team.
Ind Cup Football: Kings reach quarterfinals with all-win run
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions Bashundhara Kings smartly reached the quarterfinals of the season’s curtain raiser soccer meet, the Independence Cup Football’ 21, beating Chittagong Abahani Limited by 3-0 goals in the last group match at the Bir Shrestha Shahid Shipahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur here on Wednesday.
With the day’s feat, star studded Kings emerged Group D champions with all-win record securing full nine points from straight three matches while Chittagong Abahani finished last in the four–team group to make their early exit from the tournament with two points from three matches.

In the day’s match, Brazilian forward Robson Robinho scored first for the Kings in the 22nd minute (1-0) , Medio Mohammad Ibrahim widen the Kings margin in the 83th minute (2-0) while midfielder Matin Miah sealed the fate of the match scoring one more goal in the 88th minute (3-0)
In the day’s other match, Bangladesh Police FC confirmed their quarterfinal berth from group D after playing 1-1 draw with Bangladesh Navy at the same venue Wednesday afternoon.
After a barren first half, forward SM Bablu put Police FC ahead in the 52nd minute (10) while Brazilian defender Danilo Augusto scored a suicidal goal for Police in the 74th minute (1-1). After the match, both the Police FC and Bangladesh Navy, have secured two points each from all the three matches. But, Police FC moved into the last eight stage by virtue of conceding less goals than the Navy.

The quarterfinals matches of the meet will begin on Friday (Dec 10).
The Group A champions Dhaka Abahani Limited will play Group C runners-up Bangladesh Army in the first quarterfinal while Group C champions Saif SC will encounters Group A runners-up Swadhinata KS in the 2nd quarterfinal on the same day (Friday).
Group B champions Sheikh Russel KC will play Group D runners-up Police FC in the 3rd quarterfinal on Sunday (Dec 12) while Group D champions Bashundhara Kings will face Group B runners-up Sheikh Jamal DC in the 4th quarterfinal on the same day (Sunday).
AFC Cup: Kolkata Mohun Bagan emerge group D champions playing 1-1 with Bashundhara Kings
Indian champions ATK Mohun Bagan FC emerged Group D champion to qualify for the next-month Inter-Zonal Semifinal of the AFC Cup Football '2021 playing 1-1 draw with Bangladesh champions and 10-man Bashundhara Kings in a group deciding match at the National Football Stadium in Male, Maldives on Tuesday.
After the match, Indian super league champions ATK Mohun Bagan clinched group D crown with unbeaten run securing seven points from all the three matches to match to the knock out stage of the AFC Cup
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions Kings finished group runners up, also with unbeaten run and eliminated from meet with five points from three group encounters.
On completion of the Maldives mission, ATK Mohun Bagan will now face either FC Nasaf of Uzbekistan or FC Ahal of Turkmenistan in the Inter-Zone semi-finals on September 22.

In the day's vital match, Brazilian midfielder Jonathan Fernandes put Bashundhara Kings ahead in the 28th minute by a sudden shot from danger zone making fool the Mohun Bagan custodian Amrinder Singh and the defenders (1-0).

Bashundhara’s Robinho nearly turned the group on its head when his speculative curling cross-cum-shot effort bounced off the woodwork with six minutes remaining with the frustration of their fans.
However, ATK Mohun Bagan held on to claim the crucial one point, becoming the first Indian side since JSW Bengaluru FC in 2018 to advance to the knockout stage.

AFC Cup: Bashundhara Kings start campaign in style beating Maziya 2-0
Bangladesh champions Bashundhara Kings started the Group D campaign of the AFC Cup 2021 in style beating Maldivian champions Maziya Sports & Recreation Club 2-0 goals at the National Football Stadium in Male Wednesday night.
With the day's feat, Badhindhara Kings showed their talent and intent in the AFC Cup with their first-ever victory on foreign soil.

Earlier, Bashundhara Kings also made a good start in their first AFC Cup outplaying another Maldivian side TC Sports Club by 5-1 goals in last year's cancelled tournament , featuring gout goals by former Argentina international Hernan Barcos.
In the day's match, the fresh BPL champions Kings took lead in the 25th minute by a gifted goal as Mohamed Irufaan of Maziya SRC sent the ball to his own net (1-0).

BPL Football: Bashundhara Kings clinch title beating Sheikh Jamal 2-0
Brazilian duo Robinho and Fernandes guided Bashundhara Kings to clinch the 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football 2020-21 crown with four matches to spare beating three-time champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 2-0 goals at the Banglabandhu National Stadium here Monday.
With the day's victory, star studded Bashundhara Kings confirmed their 2nd BPL title securing 55 points from 20 matches. Their league crown will not hamper in case of conceding defeats in all the remaining four matches.
This is the 2nd major title for the Kings in the ongong season after winning the season' s curtain raiser meet Federation Cup Football. Kings Women's Football team also clinched the premier league football title few days back.

It will be a huge morale boost up for the Kings before participating this month's AFC Cup Football in the Maldives.
After the day's defeat, Sheikh Jamal DC out of the title race with their previous credit of 39 points from 19 encounters and joined the runners-up battle with six-time champions Dhaka Abahani Ltd, which bagged 40 points from 20 outings.

Jewel Rana made a hattrick for the traditional sky blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani scoring three goals in the 19th, 21st and 90+1 minutes, Nigerian booter Sunday Chizoba, Faisal Ahmed Shitol and Sohel Rana netted one goal each for the winners in the 42nd, 68th and 88th minutes respectively .
Uzbek midfielder Dilshod Nazirov scored the consolation goal for Arambagh in the 79th minute .
After the match, Dhaka Abahani Ltd moved up to the 2nd slot collecting 40 points from 20 matches while mediocre Arambagh KS remained at bottom in the 13-team league and are struggling to avoid relegation securing five points from 19 encounters.
AFC Cup: Bashundhara to face Maldives' Maziya on Aug 18
Bashundhara Kings will start their AFC Cup Football 2021 Group D campaign with the match against Maziya Sports & Recreation Club of the Maldives on August 18 at the National Football Stadium in Male.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the new fixture of AFC Cup Group D Thursday.
The Kings will play their second match on August 21 at the same venue against the winners of the Bengaluru FC and Club Eagles match.

India's Bengaluru FC and the Maldives's Club Eagles will lock horns with each other in a play-off match on August 15.
In their last Group D match, Bashundhara Kings will face Kolkata giant Mohun Bagan FC on August 24 at the National Stadium in Male.

Earlier, the Group D matches of the AFC Cup, which was postponed last May and was rescheduled to July 6 from June 30.
Once again, the matches were put off until August as Bashundhara requested the organisers to defer the dates, showing its domestic league schedule.
BPL Football: Bashundhara beat Muktijoddha 3-0; move closer to league title
Star-studded Bashundhara Kings moved closer to the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football 2020-21 title Wednesday with a 3-0 victory against Muktijoddha Sangsad.
Brazilian duo Robson Robinho (20th minute), Jonathon Fernandes (78th minute) and Argentine forward Raul Becerra (55th minute) scored one goal each for the Kings at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Robinho is now dominating the highest goal scorers' list with 18 goals, while the second-highest goal scorer Raul Becerra has scored 16.

The victory gave Bashundhara 52 points from 19 matches. Muktijoddha remained at the 11th spot securing 15 points from 18 outings.
Second-placed Sheikh Jamal earned 38 points from 17 encounters; Dhaka Abahani remained at third spot with 36 points from 18 outings.
In the day's other match, Sheikh Russel moved to the sixth spot in the league table, with 30 points from 19 matches, after beating Arambagh 3-0 at the Kamalapur Stadium in the afternoon.

Arambagh remained at the bottom of the 13-team league with five points from 18 outings.
Ugochukwu put Sheikh Russel ahead in the 34th minute, Siyoush doubled the margin in the 80th minute. Baktyir sealed the fate of the match, adding the third goal in stoppage time (90+4 minute) from a penalty.
In the remaining 20th round matches, Dhaka Mohammedan SC will play against Police FC at 4pm Thursday; Dhaka Abahani will face Sheikh Jamal DC at 4pm Friday, both at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Women's Football: Bashundhara Kings clinch league crown
National star-studded Bashundhara Kings clinched the Women's Football League 2020-21 title with a 100% unbeaten record, crushing Nasrin Sports Academy 16-0 in their last match Monday.
The Kings, who secured the title in the previous match with an 18-0 victory over Jamalpur Kacharipara Akadash Saturday, earned 42 points from 14 encounters.
National team striker Sabina Khatun netted a double hat-trick, Krishna Rani Sarkar scored four goals, and Swapna also struck a hat-trick for the Kings at the Kamalapur Stadium.

Samsunnahar Junior, Sumaiya and Maria Manda netted one each for the champions.
In Monday's other match, Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan College SC finished league runners-up, beating FC Brahmanbaria 8-2 at the same venue.
Shaheda Akhter Ripa and Halima Akhter struck two goals each while Marzia, Anuching Mogini, Anika Tanjum and Nasrin Akhter netted one each for the winners.
Kakoli Akter and Ela Moni Akter scored one each for FC Brahmanbaria.
In the day's other match, Jamalpur Kacharipara Akadadh defeated Suddopuskorini Jubo SC 5-0 at the same venue.
Bipasha Mali and Lipi Akhter scored two goals each while Ratna netted another for Jamalpur.
After the match, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Vice-President Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan Manik handed the champions' trophy and a cheque of Tk3 lakh to the Kings.
Mahfuza Akhter Kiron, BFF member and chairman of BFF Women's Football Committee, distributed the runners-up trophy and a cheque of Tk2 lakh to Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan College.

The Kings' Krishna Rani Sarkar was named the highest goal scorer of the league for her 28 goals while Shohagi of the runners-up team was adjudged the best player.
BPL Football: Ctg Abahani hand Bashundhara Kings first defeat
Chittagong Abahani forced title aspirant Bashundhara Kings to taste their first defeat in the 13-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football 2020-21 Sunday.
The Kings, who secured 49 points as the only unbeaten team in the league, suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in their 18th match. Chittagong Abahani moved to the fifth slot after collecting 31 points from 18 matches.

Nigerian forward Matthew Chinedu emerged as the day's hero, scoring both goals for the port city team in the 39th and 89th minutes.
Brazilian footballer Robson Robinho got one back for the Kings in the 87th minute and he is dominating the highest goal scorers' list with 17 individual goals in the league.

However, luck did not favour the Kings as their celebrated Argentine forward Raul Becerra spoiled the chance to score from a penalty in the 50th minute.
In the day's other BPL match, Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra caused another upset in the league, beating six-time champions Dhaka Abahani 4-2 at the same venue in the evening.
Despite the defeat, Dhaka Abahani stayed at the second slot, with 36 points from 18 matches; Muktijoddha remained at the 11th spot after collecting 14 points from 17 matches.

Ivory Coast booter Ballo Famoussa struck twice for Muktijoddha in the 45th and 63rd minutes, while his compatriot Ibrahim Abou Dicko and Nipu added two more goals in the 17th and 84th minutes.
Sunday Chizoba scored for Abahani in the stoppage time of the first half (45+2) from a penalty. Faisal Ahmed Shitol netted the second goal for them in the stoppage time of the match (90+2).
