50 injured as engine hits stationary train in Lalmonirhat
At least 50 passengers on a stationary train at a Lalmonirhat rail station were injured in a hit by a locomotive engine while it was being changed on Saturday afternoon.
Two of the injured passengers were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital due to critical condition.
Witnesses said the Dinajpur’s Parbatipur-bound commuter train carrying passengers from Lalmonirhat’s Burimari made a stopover at Lalmonirhat rail station for changing the engine on Saturday afternoon.
Locomotive driver Gour Govinda took the previous engine to the locomotive shed and came back with another engine from there to attach with the train, they said.
23-year-old electrocuted in elephant trap in Sherpur
The incident happened when the new engine hit the stationary train while it was being attached, leaving at least 50 passengers injured, they said, adding that the injured were taken to Lalmonirhat Railway Hospital and two of them were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
After receiving first aid, the injured passengers went to Parbatipur by train later.
Confirming the matter, Lalmonirhat Rail Station Master Nurunnabi Islam said a written complaint was lodged against the locomotive driver to the department and actions will be taken against him upon his return from Dinajpur.

23-year-old electrocuted in elephant trap in Sherpur
A 23-year-old youth died after being electrocuted in an elephant trap in the hill town of Nakugaon in the Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur early Saturday.
The deceased was Usman Ali (23) of the Nakugaon Village Ashrayan Project.
Monirul Alam Bhuiya, officer-in-charge of Nalitabari Police Station, confirmed the matter.
According to police and locals, a group of wild elephants came down from the Nakugaon hills to the surrounding area on Friday at midnight in search of food. Meanwhile, the local farmers went to chase the wild elephants to save their crops. When the group of wild elephants chased them back, Usman and others tried to run away.
During this time, he slipped, got caught in the electric wire of the generator, and lost consciousness. Later, he was taken to the Nalitabari Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead.
The body has been handed over for burial without an autopsy, following the request of his family. An unnatural death case has been filed in this regard, the OC said.

Zillur Rahman, 47, died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning.

One person named Abed Ali was arrested in connection with the incident, said the OC.
Farmer dies with fever, breathing complications at RMCH
According to police and locals, Rashidul Islam of Chandpur village in the upazila was attacked by Abed's men on Friday morning as he reached the disputed land in front of his house.
Both Rashidul and Zillur were injured in the attack and were admitted to RMCH in critical condition. Among them, Zillur died this morning.

Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing along Lalmonirhat border
A Bangladeshi man was killed and two others were wounded in firing by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) members early Saturday along Lalmonirhat border in Kaliganj upazila.
The deceased is Murali Chandra, 44, son of Shusheel Gidal of North Balapara area and the injured are Mizanur Rahman and Liton Mia, residents of neighboring Chandrapur area.
According to BGB, members of a patrol team of 75-Chitrakot BSF camp opened fire on some Bangladesh cattle traders along the border, leaving Murali dead and two others injured .
Imtiaz Kabir, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station, confirmed the matter .
Lt. Colonel Md. Mofazzal Hossain Akand, commander of Lalmonirhat 15 BGB battalion, said that a flag meeting was held between the two countries over the death of the Bangladeshi national in BSF firing.
Padma Bridge Rail Link project: Test run of train on Bhanga-Rupdia route begins
The test run of a train on Bhanga-Rupdia route began on Saturday from Bhanga junction in Faridpur district as part of Padma Bridge Rail Link project.The train left for Jashore’s Rupdia from Bhanga around 8:41 am in the morning, said Bhanga Rail Station master Zillur Rahman.Md Shakhawat Hossian was the locomotive driver of the train and it will run with 120 km speed, he said adding it took only one hour to reach Rupdia.

Dhaka Metro Rail operations to continue past 9 pm from today
The railway line is being constructed in three phases (plus a 3km link being built between Dhaka and Gandaria): 37km Gandaria-Mawa section, a 42km Mawa-Bhanga section, and an 87km Bhanga Junction-Jashore section. Some 43.2km of loops, siding and Y-connections bring the total track length to 215.2km.
The entire railway project from Dhaka-Jashore is scheduled to be completed by June, 2024.
There will be 20 stations from Dhaka to Jashore, of which 14 are new and 6 are already there. The previous stations are also being modernised. Once completed, trains will be able to run at a speed of 120 to 130 kilometres.
According to the railway sources, the Padma Bridge Rail Link project, a 172-km railway link being built to connect capital Dhaka to Jashore in the country’s south-west, is on course to be completed in June 2024.

Three people were killed and seven others were injured when a bus hit a human hauler at Hazambari in Salikha upazila of Magura district on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Madhu Shikdar, 55, son of Kalipodo Shikdar, Nilufa Dey, 50, wife of Nitai Dey and Pushpa Rani Dey, wife of Narayan Chandra Dey of Bagherpara upazila in Jashore district.
Two die in separate road accidents in Ctg
Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar Police Station, said the accident occurred around 9 pm on Friday when the Jashore-bound bus hit the human hauler, leaving two killed on the spot and eight others injured.
The injured were taken to Magura 250-bed Hospital where the doctors declared Madhu dead.

2 held with 20 gold bars in Joypurhat
Members of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two people with 20 gold bars worth Tk 2.30 crore from Uchna in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat district on Friday.
The arrestees were identified as Abdul Wahab, 42, and Mehedi Hasan Pappu, 26.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-20 led by Hatkhola BoP patrol team commander Nayek Atoar Rahman, conducted a drive near 281/32 pillar of the border area and arrested two people with the gold bars.

Police recover unidentified man's body from Dhaka's Shyampur
Police recovered the body of a man from the city's Shyampur area on Friday.
The identity of the deceased, aged around 35, could not be ascertained immediately, said police.
Saiful Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Shyampur police station, said they found the man lying unconscious near Setu market this noon. Later, they took him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead upon arrival, the SI added.
Transport worker dies falling in Padma River
He further said, the man was roaming aimlessly in the area and had mental problems, adding that he used to stay here for a long time and beg.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, SI Saiful Islam said.
Fire at Ctg shoe sole factory under control
The fire that broke out at a shoe sole factory at Textile intersection area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station of Chattogram City on Friday afternoon was brought under control.
Nine firefighting units from different fire stations brought the fire under control around 7:30 pm after about three hours of effort, said Md Kamruzzaman, senior station officer of Bayezid Bostami Fire Station.
He said the fire started around 4.30 pm on the second floor of a 6-story building and soon engulfed.
The fire might have originated from an electric short circuit, he added.
However, the origin of the fire could not be known immediately.
No casualties were reported.
According to locals, the factory “Rong The International” is owned by a Chinese investor where shoe soles are manufactured. Fortunately, it was a holiday and there were no workers inside the factory.
