Class 9 student beaten, stabbed to death in Natore: 4 friends arrested
Police have arrested four people over the death of a school student in Natore.
The deceased was Himel, a class nine student at Patul-Hampania High School in Naldanga upazila of the district.
The arrestees are Himel’s classmates, Partho and Sujan, and neighbourhood friends Mehdi and Shimul.
ATM Mainul Islam, additional superintendent of Natore Police, confirmed the matter.
Himel was missing after Partho took him from his home on Thursday, said the ASP.
Later, Himel's father, Faruk Sardar, complained to the local police station, and the police arrested Partho at night with the help of information technology, he said.
According to information from Partho, police arrested another classmate Mehdi and friends Sujan and Shimul and recovered Himel's body from a cornfield behind the local Piprul Union Parishad building around 1:30 am on Friday.
The arrestees are being interrogated to know the reason behind the killing, the police official said.
Two beaten to death on suspicion of cow theft in Gazipur
Two people were beaten to death on suspicion of cow theft in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur early Friday.
One person was killed in Namila village of the Singhashree union in Kapasia and another in Baribari village of the same union. The identities of the deceased were not immediately known.
Abu Bakkar Mia, officer-in-charge of Kapasia Police Station, confirmed the matter.
According to locals and police, some unknown people entered a farmer's house in Namila village in Kapasia to steal cows. The people of the house realised the theft of the cow and gathered local people. At that time, one died on the spot due to a mob beating.
Another hid in a neighbouring village after being chased by the locals. Later, the mob found him and beat him up, killing him on the spot.
The bodies were recovered and sent to the Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Two siblings drown in Chandpur
Two siblings drowned in a pond at Faridkandi village in Chandpur's Matlab Uttar upazila on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Samiul, 4, and Samia, 3, son and daughter of Md Parvez Hasan of the village.
5 people burnt as fishing trawler caught fire in Karnaphuli River
The two kids went missing when they were playing near the water body on Thursday afternoon.
Later their family members, along with local people, searched for them. Around 5:30 pm, they rescued the kids and took them to Upazila Health Complex where doctors pronounced them dead.

In another incident, a 20-year-old youth was killed while working in a field on Thursday at noon.

Bhutanese king visits Special Economic Zone in Kurigram
Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck on Thursday visited the proposed Special Economic Zone for Bhutan in Madhabram area under Bhogdanga union in Kurigram.

5 people burnt as fishing trawler caught fire in Karnaphuli River
Five people sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out in a fishing trawler at Ghat-15 of the Karnaphuli River in Patenga upazila of Chattogram on Thursday.
The fire broke out after the engine of the trawler exploded on Thursday afternoon.
After being informed, a ship from the Bangladesh Coast Guard went to the spot to douse the fire.
Man goes missing as ball gate sinks in Pasur River in Khulna
Four of the injured were identified as Jamal Uddin (55), Mahmudul Karim (45), Mofizur Rahman (45), and Emram (28). They have been admitted to the burn unit of Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Man goes missing as ball gate sinks in Pasur River in Khulna
A man went missing after a brick-laden ball gate sank in the Pasur River on the way from Khulna to Barishal during a storm on Wednesday.
The missing person is Moksed. Two others, Md Haseeb Bepari and Md Siddique, swam to the shore.
The ball gate named MV Mokamiya Darbar sank near the Mongla port in the area adjacent to Digraj Vidyarbahan Canal around 7:30 pm on Wednesday.
Ardesh Ali, fire service officer of Mongla EPZ, said a rescue operation has been underway since Thursday morning with the help of the Khulna diving team to recover the ball gate and rescue the missing person.
However, the operation is being hampered due to the heavy current in the river, he said.

Bangladeshi injured in BSF firing along Chapainawabganj border
A Bangladeshi youth was injured in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Sonamasjid border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Thursday.
The injured is Oliul Islam, son of Monirul Islam Moni of Baliadighi village of Shibganj upazila.
Lt. Colonel Golam Kibria, commander of 59 BGB battalion, said when 5-6 smugglers along with Oliul entered India around 3 am BSF personnel opened fire on them, leaving Oliul injured.
His associates rescued him and took him to Chapainawabganj district hospital. However, he did not receive treatment at the hospital and left it.
Commander of 59 BGB battalion said a letter will be sent to the BSF protesting the border firing incident.
3 dead as bus hits auto-rickshaw in Mymensingh
Three passengers were killed and four others injured in a collision between a bus and a CNG auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Ujanpara in Trishal upazila on Thursday.
The deceased are Rubaiya Tasnim,2, daughter of Shamim Ahmed of Rudra village, CNG driver Shariful Islam,33, son of late Abdus Samad of Chikna Manhar village, and Salman Azadi,27, a student of music department of Jatiyo Kobi Kazi Nazrul Islam University.
The injured are Mani Akhter45, wife of Jalal Uddin of Rudra village and Sahida Akhtar,45, wife of Shamim Ahmed of the same village. The identities of two others could not be known.
The injured were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Trishal Police Station, said a bus collided with the auto-rickshaw while taking U-turn, leaving Tasnim dead on the spot.
Two other victims died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
