Hanoi GM Chess: Bangladeshi IM Fahad Rahman takes lead securing 2 points
Bangladeshi IM Fahad Rahman took the lead in the Hanoi Grandmasters Chess Tournament 2023, securing two full points from two matches held on the opening day (Wednesday) in the Vietnamese city of Hanoi.
Fahad won both the day's first and second round matches, while Bangladeshi GM Niaz Murshed settled for a draw in both the day's matches to earn one point from two matches.
In the day's first round held in the morning, IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman beat Australian FM Liu Yi, while GM Niaz Murshed drew with GM Bui Vinh of Vietnam.
In the day's second round, held in the afternoon, IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman beat GM Cao Sang of Vietnam, while GM Niaz Murshed drew with AR Ilamparthi of India.
A total of 12 players, including 4 Grandmasters, 4 International Masters, 3 FIDE Masters, and 1 Candidate Master from Bangladesh, Australia, India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Vietnam, are taking part in the Hanoi Grandmaster Chess Tournament '2023.

Evince Group champion of BGMEA Cup 2023
Evince Group has emerged victorious in the BGMEA Cup 2023, securing a 3-1 victory against Mosharraf Apparels Ltd in the final match.
The thrilling competition took place at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in Dhaka on December 1, said a media release on Sunday.
Faruque Hassan, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), presented the champion trophy to the winning team in a ceremony. BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Vice President (Finance) Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, former Vice President Moshiul Azam Shajal, Director Md. Imranur Rahman and Director of Giant Group Sharmeen Hassan Tithi were also present at the award ceremony.
Salauddin of Evince Group was awarded the Man of the Final, showcasing exceptional skills and contributing significantly to his team’s success. Atique Shahriar Raihan of the winning team was named the Most Valuable Player for his outstanding performance.
Md. Imranur Rahman of Bando Design Ltd was awarded as the Best Playmaker of the tournament while Rahbar of the same team received as the Top Scorer award.
The football tournament, being organized by BGMEA since 2016, brought together 16 teams divided into four groups for this year’s edition. The group matches were played at the Uttara Sector 4 Kallyan Samiti ground in Dhaka.
The participating teams in BGMEA Cup 2023 included Comfit Composite Knit Ltd, TRZ Group, Shrabony Knitwear Ltd, Tusuka Group, Setara Group, Hossain Group, Mosharraf Apparels Ltd, Sayem Fashions Ltd, Fakir Fashion Ltd, Asian Apparels Ltd, Apparels Village Ltd, Aspire Garments Ltd, Kims Corporation Ltd, Evince Group, Laila Group, and Bando Design Ltd.
The tournament was powered by Sheltech Ceramics, Turag Active, and T-Sports, with BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) and Green Textile Ltd., a concern of Epic Group, serving as Platinum sponsors. Gold sponsors included Pacific Jeans, Club 11 Entertainment, Twelve Clothing, Porcelanosa Bangladesh, and Laila Group.
The venue partner for the event was Uttara Sector 4 Kallyan Samiti, while AAMRA served as the internet partner, and Movement Solutions BD took on the role of the fitness partner.

Fide Master Md Sharif Hossain of Bangladesh sharing the top slot in the Hetauda Cup Asia Open Chess Tournament with two indians Subhayan Kundu and FM Arvinder Preet Singh securing 6.5 points after the 8th or penultimate round held in Hetauda Nepal on Saturday.
IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin, IM Abu Sufian Shakil, Sheikh Nasir Ahmed and FM Nayem Haque of Bangladesh are in the 2nd position jointly with 6 points each while M Debearaj Chatterjee earned 5 points.
The 7th and 8th round games were held today (Saturday).
In the 7th round, IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin beat Saurabh Choubey of India, IM Abu Sufian Shakil drew with Bartakke Amardeep of India, FM Nayem Haque drew with FM Arvinder Preet Singh of India, FM Md Sharif Hossain beat FM Rupesh Jaiswal of Nepal, Sheikh Nasir Ahmed beat Dahal Sushrut of Nepal and FM Debaraj Chatterjee beat Demanraura Ayush of Nepal.

International Master (IM) Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Bangladesh sharing the 2nd position in the Hanoi Grandmaster Chess Tournament with two other players securing 3.5 points after the 6th round matches held in Hanoi, Vietnam on Saturday.
Bangladeshi GM Niaz Murshed earned 3 points from six matches.

In the day's 6th round, IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman beat GM Cao Sang of Vietnam while GM Niaz Murshed drew with FM Pham Tran Gia Phuc of Vietnam.
The 4th and 5th round matches were held on Friday.
In the 4th round, GM Niaz Murshed defeated GM Cao Sang of Vietnam while IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman beat Australian FM Liu Yi.

Grand Master Niaz Murshed of Bangladesh drew with GM Bui Vinh of Vietnam in the third round match of the Hanoi Grand Master Chess Tournament on Thursday.
Bangladeshi IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman lost to GM Tran Tuan Minh of Vietnam in the day's other third-round match.
After the day's third round, GM Niaz Murshed earned 1.5 points, while IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman earned 1 point.
8th President Bangabandhu Cup Fencing Tournament: Ansar-VDP crowned champions
The closing ceremony and prize distribution program of Bangabandhu 8th President Cup Fencing Tournament 2023 were held in Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in city’s Mirpur 10 area on Sunday.
Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University, Bangabandhu Chair and Bangladesh Bank’s former Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman attended the event as the chief guest.
Dr. Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed, Commissioner of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), Khurshid Alam, Executive Director (Grade 1) of Bangladesh Bank, AKM Shameem Chowdhuri, former Press Secretary to the Prime Minister and Ziaul Hasan, Deputy Director General (Training) of Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) joined the event as special guests.
Ansar-VDP became champions in the above tournament while Mirpur Fencing Club became first runners-up and Bengal Sports Academy turned out to be the second runners-up.
AKM Shameem Chowdhury extended compliments to the fencers who contested the tournament.
He spoke very high of the fencing officials including Bangladesh Fencing Federation (BFF) President Shoeb Chowdhury for organizing this contest in the middle of the ongoing political instability across Bangladesh.
Khurshid Alam recollected Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members who were assassinated on 15 August 1975. Khurshid Alam assured Bangladesh Fencing Federation about giving necessary support from the banking sector.
Dr. Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was very fond of playing football. Bangabandhu established Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP), Bangladesh Football Federation and Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Ziaul Hasan paid tribute to the memory of Sheikh Mujib, three million martyrs who were killed during the Liberation War of 1971 and the martyrs of 15 August 1975.
BFF Vice President Borhan Uddin Ahmed conveyed greetings, best wishes and compliments to all participants of the tournament.
He highly praised BFF President Shoeb Chowdhury for promoting the sport of fencing all over Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Fencing Federation President Shoeb Chowdhury admired chief guest Dr. Atiur Rahman saying that Dr. Atiur Rahman was the most successful Governor of Bangladesh Bank during whose tenure Bangladesh obtained a great deal of socio-economic advancement.
Shoeb Chowdhury urged the authorities concerned to lay more emphasis on indoor games with references to archery and fencing.
Dr. Atiur Rahman appreciated the dynamic and proactive role by Bangladesh Fencing Federation President Shoeb Chowdhury.
He congratulated all fencing teams that took part in the contest. Dr. Atiur Rahman thanked BFF officials for naming the tournament after Bangabandhu. “Bangabandhu is the symbol of our existence,” he said.
Dr. Atiur Rahman expressed optimism that the youths of Bangladesh will drive the country forward in days to come.
Bangladesh Fencing Federation General Secretary Selim Omrao Khan said that Bangladesh gained a broad extent of momentum in sports under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s capable daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

All the Bangladesh archers made their early exit from their respective events of the 23rd Asian Archery Championship' 2023 held in Bangkok on Wednesday.
In the day's recurve men's team event, Bangladesh team was eliminated from quarterfinal final stage losing to South Korea by 2-6 sets. Earlier, they qualified for the quarterfinal eliminating Mongolia by 6-0 sets.
Bonnya Akter of Bangladesh was eliminated from the quarterfinal of the compound women's singles losing to Lyan Viktoriya of Kazakhstan by 142-143 score.
23rd Asian Archery, Olympics Qualifier: Bangladesh Archery team leaves for Bangkok
Hakim Ahmed Rubel of Bangladesh lost to Rai Tarundeep of India by 4-6:sets in the recurve men's singles event.
Two archers of compound division out of eight- member Bangladesh team--Mohammad Ashiqquzzaman and Bonnya Akter -- will return home on Friday (November 10)
The remaining six archers --three male and three female, all of recurve division--will stay in Bangkok to compete in the Asian Continental Qualifying Tournament for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games to be held there from November 10-12.

Bangladesh Archery team left the capital for Bangkok on Friday to participate in the 23rd Asian Archery Championship' 2023 and Asian Continental Qualifying Tournament for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The 23rd Asian Archery Championship will begin on Sunday (Nov 5) in the Thai capital.
Bangladesh team includes three officials and eight archers-- four male and four female.
Bangladesh will compete in eight Asian Archery events--recurve men' s team, recurve men's singles, recurve women' s team, recurve women's singles, recurve mixed team, compound men's singles, compound women's singles and compound mixed team
On completion of Asian events, a six-member Bangladesh recurve team--three male and three female archers-- will compete in the Asian Continental Qualifying Tournament for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games there from November 10-12.
Members of Bangladesh team are- Hakim Ahmed Rubel, Roman Shana, Sagor Islam, Diya Siddiqui, Shima Akter Shimu, Monira Akter (recurve archer),Mohammad Ashiqquzzaman and Bonnya Akter (compound archer).

Fide Master Manon Reja Neer of Bangladesh Navy emerged unbeaten champion in the Walton International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament securing 6.5 points after the day's 7th and last round held at Manha's Castle Hall-room in Green Road, Dhaka on Tuesday
IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin of Bangladesh Navy finished runner-up with 6 points while FM Nayem Haque of Bangladesh Biman became third with 5 5 points.
After the day's final round, ten players earned 5 points each and their positions were decided through the tie-breaking system.

Abzid Rahman, FM Mehdi Hasan Parag beat Din Mohammad, FM Md. Sharif Hossain beat CM Md Jamal Uddin, FM Mohammad Javed beat WCM Jannatul Ferdous, CM Shafiq Ahmed beat WCM Ahmed Walijah, Abdul Momin drew with Saurabh Choubey of India, Siam Chowdhury beat Md Rabbi Salim while Safayet Kibria Aazan drew with Shahinur Haque.
