Veteran journalist Sayed Kamaluddin no more
Veteran journalist Sayed Kamaluddin, editor of the weekly Holiday, has passed away at a city hospital. He was 85.
“My father breathed his last at about 2:30 pm at Evercare Hospital on Tuesday. He was suffering from kidney-related complications,” his son Talat Kamal told the media.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Ruhul Amin’s mother no more
His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Dhaka Cantonment Board Jame Mosque (Allahu Mosque) after Isha prayers on Tuesday. Later, he will be buried at Banani graveyard, said his family.
Kamaluddin joined Holiday in 2005. He also served as the former press minister of Bangladesh in Washington, DC.
Senior journalist Laykuzzaman no more
He began his career with the Daily Azad in 1961. Till the closure of the Hong Kong-based Far Eastern Economic Review in 2004, he worked there as a Dhaka correspondent and freelance writer.
After returning from Washington in 2004, he wrote for the Financial Express, the New Age, the Holiday, and the Economic and Business Review of Dawn, Pakistan.
Death anniversary of Zainul Haque Sikder observed
Kamal joined the BBC World Service as a Dhaka correspondent in 1974 before joining Agence France-Presse (AFP), the French news agency.
He also worked as a correspondent for The Financial Times, London, the Economist, London, and the Economist Intelligence Unit in addition to the FEER job.
Kamal also worked for the AFP, Iranian Radio and Television, and the Voice of America in Hong Kong.

Hamida Begum, mother of Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Ruhul Alam Siddique, passed away on Tuesday. She was 100.
She left behind three sons, five daughters, grandsons, granddaughters and a host of relatives to mourn her death.
She was buried at Dattapara graveyard in Sirajganj’s Ullapara upazila after Asr prayers following a namaz-e-janaza on Wednesday.
Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud expressed deep shock over the death of Hamida Begum and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Senior journalist Laykuzzaman no more
Senior journalist and a special correspondent for Daily Rupali Bangladesh newspaper Laykuzzaman passed away on Saturday.
He breathed his last around 6:15 pm while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in the capital.
Actor Ahmed Rubel no more
Rupali Bangladesh’s senior reporter SJR Sumon told the media that Laykuzzaman complained of chest pain while on duty in the office in the afternoon.
Later, colleagues rushed him to the Heart Institute, where doctors declared him dead.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a host of relatives and friends.

The third death anniversary of Zainul Haque Sikder, a close companion of Bangabandhu, brave freedom fighter, social worker, eminent educationist, and one of the organizers of the Liberation War was observed on Saturday in the city.
On this occasion prayers and milad mahfil were held at the Dhanmondi branch of the Sikder Medical College and Hospital which was founded by Zainul Haque Sikder.
Food has been distributed to more than 23,000 needy and poor people during the prayer ceremony.
Zainul Haque Sikder was the founder chairman of Sikdar Group, one of the leading industrial conglomerates of the country. He was the founder chairman of the private sector National Bank besides various businesses.
Zainul Haque Sikder was also a founder of Sikder Insurance Company. Apart from this, he was the founder of numerous institutions including ZH Sikdar Women's Medical College, ZH Sikder University of Science and Technology, Sikdar Insurance. He also contributed immensely to the development of the private sector in Bangladesh.
Rick Haque Sikder, Ron Haque Sikder, Momtazul Haque Sikder, Son Haque Sikder and other family members and politicians including Enamul Haque Shamim-MP, Naeemuzzaman Mukta-MP, Dr. Awlad Hossain-MP, Ruhul Amin HowladarMP, were present in the prayer ceremony.
Senior officials of various banks and business organizations of Sikder Group and PowerPac and officials of the government offices including Bangladesh Police were also attended the function.

Dr Tofazzal Hossain (TH) Khan, a former director of the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS), passed away on Sunday. Taposh condoles death of ex-Chandpur lawmaker Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh expressed profound shock and condoled the death of former Chandpur lawmaker Dr Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan.
In a condolence message on Friday, he said, "Dr Mohammad Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan, while serving as Chief Engineer of the undivided Dhaka City Corporation, was fully involved in various activities and accelerated the development activities of the Corporation. He made the Corporation a people-friendly organization."

Ex-Chandpur lawmaker Dr Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan passes away
Former Awami League MP from Chandpur-4 (Faridganj) and former district Awami League president Dr Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan passed away at a private hospital in Dhaka on Friday morning.
He is survived by his wife, three sons and a host of relatives and friends.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held in Faridganj on Friday afternoon. His home is in Kaunia village of Rupsha South Union of Faridganj.
According to relatives, Shamsul was suffering from an incurable disease.
He was the founder of Faridganj Gardkalindia Hazera-Hasmat Degree College; former chief engineer of Dhaka City Corporation, former senate member of Dhaka University and founder of Apollo Group of Industries.
He was elected MP from Faridganj in 2014.
In the 12th parliamentary election of 2024, he contested as an independent candidate from Chandpur-4 (Faridganj) and Chandpur-3 (Sadar-Haimchar) constituencies as an independent candidate and was defeated.

Veteran journalist Abdul Wahed Khan passes away
Veteran journalist Abdul Wahed Khan has passed away in Sylhet.
He breathed his last at a private hospital in Sylhet around 11:30 pm on Thursday.
Wahed was the editor of Sylhet’s Jalalabadi newspaper and weekly Sylhet Samachar.
In the early eighties, he started the daily Jalalabadi from the weekly Sylhet Samachar House.
Besides journalism, Wahed was associated with various social and cultural organizations and various educational institutions. He also served as the general secretary of Sylhet Central Muslim Literary Society (KMUSAS).
Wahed also established the Jalalabad Academy, Sylhet.
Abdul Wahed Khan served as the Sylhet bureau chief of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) from 1972 to 1978.
Prior to that, he worked in the Daily Ittefaq in Dhaka from 1962 to 1971.
