Mitu murder: PBI submits chargesheet against ex-SP Babul, 6 others
The Police Bureau of investigation (PBI) on Tuesday pressed charges against former Chattogram Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter and six others in a case filed over the killing of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.
Abu Zafar Md Omar Faruk, inspector of PBI and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the chargesheet to the prosecution unit of the Chattogram court.
On June 5, 2016, unidentified assailants gunned down Babul's wife Mitu at the port city's GEC intersection while she was going to drop her son Mahir Akhter, 7, for a bus of Chittagong Cantonment Public School and College.

Soon after the crime, Babul filed a murder case at Panchlaish Police Station against three unidentified men.
The case was transferred to the Police Bureau Investigation (PBI) in 2019 after Mitu's father, himself a retired police officer, filed a complaint against the CMP's mishandling of the case.

On May 12, 2021, the PBI submitted its final report and arrested Babul Akter in another case filed by Mitu’s father and since then he has been in prison.
Babul Akhter also filed a ‘naraji petition’ against the PBI report on October 14, 2021.
On November 3 last year, a Chattogram Court rejected the final report of PBI in the murder case and ordered it to conduct further investigation.
Babul hired killers at Tk 3 lakh to kill Mitu: PBI
Former Chattogram Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter hired killers at Tk 3 lakh to kill his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu in 2016, said a report of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Wednesday.
“Babul developed an extra marital relationship with a foreign woman and they had a child. That’s why Babul took the decision to kill Mitu,” said Abu Zafar Mohammad Omar Faruk, inspector of PBI and also the investigation officer of the case.
The PBI report also unveiled that Quamrul Islam Shikdar Musa and six others took part in the killing mission.
After the murder, Babul asked Musa to go into hiding, said the report.
PBI inspector Zafar also said that they are at the final stage of submitting the chargesheet and the mystery of the killing was unveiled with the help of technology.
According to the report, Babul, who filed the murder case, was made the main accused in the case.
The six other accused in the case are—Quamrul Islam Shikdar Musa, Ehtashamul Haque alias Haniful Haque alias Bholaia Md Motaleb Mia Wasim, Anwar Hossain, Khairul Islam Kalu and Shahjahan Mia.
PBI Chief, Additional Inspector General Banaj Kumar Majumdar, said “The investigation is almost done and a chargesheet is under preparation but it will take few more days to submit the report before the court.”

Fugitive PBI inspector suspended over Khulna college girl's rape
Authorities have suspended a Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) inspector for raping a 20-year-old college student.
Accused inspector Manjurul Ahsan Masud became a fugitive after a case was lodged in this regard.
PBI Khulna’s Superintendent of Police Syed Musfiqur Rahman said that the decision was taken by higher authorities as Masud was a fugitive and an accused in the case.
He said that the CCTV showed evidence that inspector Masud took the student to a house and came out after quite some time.
“The student had earlier met Masud at the PBI office and it is learned that the student also took a set of extra clothes before leaving the house that day,” he further said.
A 20-year-old woman was raped allegedly by a PBI official at Mirzapur Road in Khulna city on May 15.
Police said a college student came to PBI Inspector Majurul Ahsan Masud five days ago following a cyber-issue.
The crime occurred when Inspector Masud took her to a newspaper office at Mirzapur Road promising her to solve the problem.
Later, the victim lodged an FIR at the Khulna Sadar police station immediately after the incident, said Officer-in-Charge Hasan Al Mamun.
The woman was sent to the One Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Khulna Medical College Hospital for medical examination, he added.
There was prima facie evidence of the crime, said the OC.

PBI nabs fugitive accused in 7 cases
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has managed to arrest an absconding accused in seven cases, including murder and drugs-related cases, from the city's Shyampur Rail line area.
The arrestee was identified as Sirajul Islam alias Montu Sheikh, 40, of Faridpur dictrict. He was indicted in a drug case filed at Chowk Bazar Police Station last year for smuggling phensedyl.
According to PBI, the address of Sirajul Islam and another accused Md Salam, provided in the case were wrong, and they appealed for exemption from the case. However, the court directed the PBI to re-investigate the case and arrest the accused on April 1 last year. Salam was arrested on January 25.
Investigating Officer Sub-Inspector Md Ashraful Islam, under the supervision of Special Superintendent of Police Md Jahangir Alam, unit in-charge of PBI Dhaka Metro (North), applied all the usual methods to identify the fugitive accused.
Later, the Investigating Officer made the arrest from Shyampur Rail line area around 4:30pm on Thursday after appointing special source and reviewing the CDMS, collected information about the fugitive accused Sirajul Islam, the release said.

During primary interrogation, the arrestee admitted that he along with two other accused in this case used to trade Phensedyl in different places of the capital after collecting those from border areas of the country.
On February 21 last year, the three accused in the case illegally brought 365 bottles of Indian Phensedyl from Dinajpur to Dhaka for trading. Sensing the presence of members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Chowk Bazar police station area, he and the accused Salam, 31, fled, but accused Chan Mia was detained by Rab.
There are several drug and murder cases against Sirajul. There were five warrants issued against him and he was even convicted in a case filed in Sirajganj, according to a PBI statement circulated to the press.
He was arrested earlier along with Phensedyl at Ghoraghat in Dinajpur where he provided wrong identity, he said during interrogation.
Sirajul Islam was presented before the court on Friday, it added.
Munia Murder Case: PBI probe report submission deferred again to Dec 8
A Dhaka court on Sunday allowed Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) an extended time until December 8 to submit its investigation report on Bashundhara Group MD Sayem Sobhan Anvir and seven others accused in a case over the rape and murder of college student Mosarat Jahan Munia.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara set the new deadline of December 8 after PBI failed to submit the report today (Sunday), as it was earlier asked by the same court.
This was the second time PBI investigation officer (IO) of the case Golam Muktar Ashraf Uddin, also an inspector of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), failed to submit the report after the first failure on November 2.

On April 26, police recovered the body of the 21-year-old Munia hanging from a ceiling fan of her bedroom in a Gulshan flat.
Munia's elder sister, Nusrat Jahan Tania, filed a case against Anvir that night accusing him of incitement to suicide.
According to Tania, her sister, Munia, was in a relationship with Anvir who regularly visited her at the Gulshan apartment.
On July 19, the investigation officer of the case Abul Hasan, also the officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, submitted a final report to the court giving a clean chit to Anvir.
On September 6, Munia's sister filed new rape and murder case against the Bashundhara Group MD and seven others with Dhaka's 8th Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children's Repression.

The court, after recording the complaint, directed the PBI to submit a report on it.
The seven other accused in the case are: Anvir’s parents Bashundhara Group's Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Shah Alam and Afroza Begum, Anvir's wife Sabrina Sayem and model Faria Mahbub Piyasha, friend Saifa Rahman Mim and owner of the flat Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon and his wife Sharmim Akhter.
Mitu murder case: Court rejects PBI’s final report
A Chattogram court on Wednesday rejected the final report of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in Mahmuda Khanam Mitu murder case and ordered it to conduct further investigation.
Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mehnaz Rahman passed the order after rejecting the final report of PBI in the case.
The court also rejected the ‘naraji(discontent) petition’ of former police superintendent Babul Akter in the case, said Advocate Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury.
Babul, who served as SP of Chattagram, has been in Feni District jail since May 17.
On May 12, Babul was taken on a 5-day remand by PBI for interrogation after being arrested in a case filed by his father-in-law over his wife’s killing.

On June 24, 2016 night, he was questioned for 15 hours at the intelligence office in Dhaka and on September 6, he voluntarily resigned from the police service.
On May 11, PBI submitted its report in the murder case. They also found Babul’s involvement in the case.
Later, Babul’s father-in-law filed a fresh case against him on May 12.
Eight people including Babul were accused in the case filed by Mitu's father, Mosharraf Hossain.
The other accused are Kamrul Islam Shikder alias Musa, Ehteshamul Haque Bhola, Motaleb Mia alias Wasim, Anwar Hossain, Khairul Islam alias Kalu, and Shahjahan Mia.

Babul Akhter also filed a ‘naraji petition’ against the PBI report on October 14 and after hearing the petition the court fixed November 3 for next hearing.
On October 23, Ehteshamul Haque Bhola, an accused in ex-police superintendent Babul Akter's wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu murder case, confessed to supplying firearms used in the killing before a Chattogram court.
PBI arrest two men on charge of killing two women in Cumilla
Police Bureau of Investigation have arrested two men from Surgapur area of Kotwali thana in Cumilla allegedly for killing two women, officials said on Tuesday.
The arrestees were identified as Abdullah Ansari alias Munna, 23, son of Md Sahidullah Bhuiyan of Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla and his associates Dwin Islam Dinu, 19, son of Mostafa of Durgapur village under Kotwali thana.
According to a media release of PBI, the men killed two women within a month for money and had a plan to kill two more people.

Earlier On October 20, Police recovered a woman’s body in a sack with injury marks on her body from Gopinathpur Sarkin of Cumilla Sadar on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway. On September 13, police recovered another woman’s body from Dhaka-Chattogram Highway near Gopinathpur Sarkin in Feni.
Later, two cases were file at Cumilla Sadar Police Station under Woman and Children Repression Prevention Act against some unidentified accused in this regard.

During preliminary interrogation, the duo confessed to their crime. They lured women with offer of love posing as vehicle mechanics or bakers. They later raped the two women before killing them.
The two accused were sent to court where they gave confessional statements, said the release.
Cricketer Nasir, Tamima’s marriage illegal: PBI
The marriage between Bangladesh national team cricketer Nasir Hossain and Tamima Sultana is illegal as she is still wife of businessman Rakib Hasan, said a report of Police Bureau of Investigation(PBI) on Thursday.
PBI investigation officer Mizanur Rahman submitted the report before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohamamd Jashim.

Later the court asked cricketer Nasir , Tamima and Tamima’s mother Sumi Akhter to appear before it on October 31 in a case filed over Tamima’s illegal marriage.
Tamima allegedly got married to cricketer Nasir without divorcing her husband Rakib Hasan.
Advocate Ishrat Zahan, a counsel of the plaintiff, said a petition was filed seeking warrants for the arrest of the three accused.
According to the PBI report, Tamima did not divorce her first husband Rakib and Rakib did not get any divorce notice from her. Rather, Tamima made a fake divorce notice. So, Tamima is still the wife of Rakib, said the report.
As per the law, marrying another person without getting divorced with her husband is a punishable offence and for this reason the marriage of Tamima and Nasir is illegal, it said.

Besides, the divorce notice which was sent by post to Rakib is not legal, said PBI report.
Earlier on February 24, a Dhaka court directed PBI to investigate the case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Md Jashim passed the order after taking the case filed by Rakib into cognizance.
PBI was asked to submit its investigation report by March 30.

According to the case statement, Tamima got married to Rakib Hasan on February 26, 2011 and they have an eight year old daughter.
Tamima, a cabin crew of Saudia Airlines, had been staying in Saudi Arabia due to Covid-19 situation since March 10, 2020.
During this time, she contacted her family through mobile phone and social media.
Tamima got married with the cricketer on February 24 while photographs of their marriage went viral on social media which drew the attention of Rakib Hasan.
Body recovered in trunk identified after 6 years, 1 arrested: PBI
Police have identified the woman whose body was found in a trunk at Gabtoli Bus stand in 2015 and arrested the prime accused from Cumilla district.
The deceased was Shampa Begum, daughter of Ilias Sheikh a medical assistant hailing from Khulna.
Member of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested retired navy member Rezaul Karim Shwapon from Cumilla EPZ area on Friday morning.
According to PBI, on March 5, 2015 a man collected a ticket of a Dhaka-bound bus of Eagle Pribahan from Chattogram and kept a trunk in the cargo box of the bus but he didn’t get in.

As the bus reached Gabtoli bus around 5:45 pm the driver and his assistant found the trunk and informed police out of suspicion.
Police recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy.
As the identity of the woman could not known, the body was buried as an unclaimed one and sub-inspector Jahanur Ali filed a case at Darussalam police station in this regard.
After three months of investigation by police and another four years of investigation by Crime Investigation Department (CID)a report on the case was submitted to a court.
As the victim remained unidentified the court rejected the report and directed to hand over the case to PBI for further investigation in 2019.

The PBI investigation found Shampa was acquainted with Rezaul Karim Shwapon in 2013 and a relationship developed between them but Rezaul did not agree to marry her.
They rented a room at South Green View area under Pahartali polcie station in Chattogram and lived there from 2014 to May, 2015.
Accused Rezaul confessed to killing Shampa by strangulation on March 2, 2015 and later hid the body in the trunk.
Rezaul informed Shampa’s family that he had sent her off to Khulna by a bus.
As she didn’t reach Khulna, her family filed a missing diary and later filed a complaint with Chattogram Naval office against Rezaul.
In 2019, Razaul was sent to forced retirement, said PBI.
Mother, son arrested after 10 months of murder
The police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested a man and his mother from Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria district for their alleged involvement in a murder which took place about 10 months ago.
The arrestees were identified as Sabbir, 23 and Sheuli Begum, 45.

They were arrested following a drive in a house in Ashuganj on Saturday night for killing Nabi Hossain, 30, a resident of Aganagar village in Bhairab upaizla of Kishoreganj district.
Chattogram Superintendent of Police Nazmul Hasan disclosed the information to media on Sunday.
“ Sabbir hired some contract killers and abducted Nabi from Kishoreganj. They killed him in a car and carried the body all the way to Chattogram and disposed of it in the Patiya area of the port city,” he added.
“When we recovered the body last year , it was totally unrecognisable. However we were able to identify it later through the ‘fingerprint identification and verification system,”said PIB inspector, investigation officer of the case, Monir Hossain.

After receiving the body to the Nabi Hossain, Kabir Hossain, younger brother of the victim, filed a case with Patiya Police station against Sabbir and Sheuli who were on the runbefore being caught on Sunday.
An extramarital affair developed between Sheuli and Nabi and later she divorced her Saudi-expatriate husband and married Nabi, said the investigation officer.
This enraged her son Sabbir and he planned to kill him as revenge .
According to the plan, he hired three killers-Tushar, Sumon and Ashiq-to execute his plan.
Following a failed abduction attempt on October 15 they successfully abducted the victim the next day and later strangled him to death in a car in Cumilla before dumping the body at a jungle in Patiya of Chattagram.
According to the investigative officer of the case, Sabbir paid Tk 60,000 ( 15,000 in advance) to Sumon as part of their contract.Patyia police station recovered his body from the jungle the next day and resorted to modern technology to identify it.
The case was shifted to PIB after the arrest Sumon and his associates.
Later, they confessed to the murder in a Chittagong court under section 164.
Kabir Hossain, the plaintiff in the case, said, "My brother was brutally killed. I demand exemplary punishment of my brother's murderers.”
