Nagad bags Visa 'Excellence in Fintech' award
Global payments service provider Visa has conferred mobile financial services provider (MFS) Nagad with the "Excellence in Fintech Product Innovation 2022" award for its easily accessible payment solutions and for enabling users to transfer money from their mobile wallets to any Visa card.
This was the first time Visa awarded the title to an MFS in Bangladesh.
Rahel Ahmed, chief executive officer of Nagad, received the award at the "Visa Leadership Conclave-Digital Payments for Smart Bangladesh 2022" recently held at a city hotel.

"We want to make people's lives easier and this Visa award will inspire us to come up with more such solutions," he added.
"We are delighted to recognise Nagad's contribution through the 'Excellence in Fintech Product Innovation 2022' award," Soumya Basu, Visa country manager for Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, said.
Nagad and Visa jointly pioneered a solution a few months ago that allows consumers to use Nagad to transfer funds directly from their wallet to any bank account linked to a Visa card, he said.

General Secretary of the Chattogram Divisional Sports Association. member of Bangladesh Olympics Association (BOA) and former Director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir achieved an honorary Doctorate Degree from Global Human Peace University (GHPU) of India on Saturday (June 18). Founder and Chairman of the GHPU Dr P Manuel handed over the "Doctor of Sports" award to Sirajuddin M Alamgir at a convocation ceremony in Chennai on Saturday.Alamgir, who completed the BA (Hons) and MA Degree from Chittagong University and took BP Ed from National University, now serves as Deputy Director of Physical Education and Sports Science Department of Chittagong University.

Bangladesh, India enjoy excellent relations: Information Minister
Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud said Bangladesh and India have a very good relationship and unity is needed to take the relationship forward.
“It is very normal that we have a good relationship with India as the country contributed to our Liberation War. We have no major differences of opinion. To carry forward the relationship, we have to work together,” he said.
Hasan Mahmud said this while addressing the Bangladesh-India relations-based reporting award on the occasion of Connections 2022 of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association-Bangladesh (IIMCAA B) at Dhaka Club in the capital on Saturday.
Mentioning that relations between the two countries has reached a new height led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, the minister said, “India had sheltered one crore Bangladeshi refugees during the Liberation War. Late Indira Gandhi had travelled to many countries to campaign for independence of Bangladesh and to free Bangabandhu from Pakistani jail. For these reasons, India’s name will be written forever in the history of Bangladesh.”
He also congratulated the award winners, saying IIMCAAB graduates can play an active role to accelerate the relationship between the two countries.
In the programme, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiwami said as a bosom friend India is committed to cooperating with Bangladesh to its level best.
IIMCAAB president and prime minister's press secretary Ihsanul Karim presided over the programme while IIMCAAB general saecretary Zahid Newaz Khan, senior journalist Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, among others, were present.
UNB Editor Farid Hossain also spoke at the event. He was the chief of the jury board of the Bangladesh-India relations-based reporting award.
News24 television's "Team Undercover" programme won the 2019 award for its in-depth investigation of how firearms are being smuggled into Bangladesh from India.
Prothom Alo Special Correspondent Raheed Ejaz won the 2020 award for his report: "Bangladesh-India relations through the lens of Dhaka: India wants Bangladesh as geopolitical partner."
Shamima Dola, editor of News Now Bangla, won the 2021 award for the reports "Line of credit: One of the bedrocks of India-Bangladesh ties," and "Implementation of motor vehicles agreement to increase Bangladesh-India trade by 25 percent."
IIMCAAB Joint Secretary Angur Nahar Monty conducted the programme while its Senior Vice President Azizul Islam Bhuiyan gave vote of thanks.

Coca-Cola Bangladesh wins National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award 2020
International Beverages Private, a subsidiary of The Coca-Cola Company, recently won the National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award 2020 in the food sub-category under large industry.
Every year, the National Productivity Organisation, under the Ministry of Industry, gives out the award to organisations and companies that contribute to the economy through creating employment opportunities and promoting technological innovations.
This year, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun handed out the award to 26 firms in five categories and the "Institutional Appreciation Award 2020" to one trade body as recognition of their contribution to the industrial sector.

Tapas Kumar Mondal, managing director of International Beverages Private, said: "As a 100 percent foreign direct investment, we have been investing in Bangladesh and creating multi-faceted economic inclusion through sustainable practices, job opportunities, and youth skill development."
"We are delighted that our contribution has been recognised, and it will encourage us to do more for the society and the country."
Marcelo Boffi, president of The Coca-Cola Company's Bottling Investments Group, said: "We work with our supply chain to continuously improve sustainable and ethical sourcing practices, including a continued commitment to human rights. I am glad that all our initiatives and values are appreciated and recognised at the national level in Bangladesh."
Runner Automobile gets National Productivity Award
Runner Automobile Limited has received the “National Industrial Productivity and Quality Excellence Award 2020” in the large industrial category in recognition of its contribution to industry and services and development of product quality.
Hafizur Rahman Khan, the chairman of Runner Group, received the award from Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Minister, Ministry for Industries, in a ceremony held at a city hotel on Sunday, said a media release.

Habiganj Agro Limited and Sylvan Technologies Limited, sister concerns of PRAN Group, received the ‘National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award-2020’ for enhancing productivity and manufacturing quality products.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun handed over the awards at a programme held at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital on Sunday.
Eleash Mridha, managing director of PRAN Group received the award on behalf of Habiganj Agro while Mostafizur Rahman, chief operating officer at Sylvan Technologies received the award on behalf of the company, said a media release.

Among the awards, Habiganj Agro Ltd got the second award for the food industry sector in the large industrial category while Sylvan Technologies Ltd received the first prize for the steel and engineering sector in the medium industry category.

Fair Electronics gets National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award
Fair Electronics Limited has received the National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award, 2022 from the Ministry of Industries.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun handed over the award in a grand ceremony at a city hotel on Sunday, said a media release.
Kazi Nasir Uddin, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Fair Group received the award on behalf of Fair Electronics.

According to the release, Fair Electronics achieved first prize in the Steel & Engineering Category.
Through this, Fair Electronics achieved recognition by the government as the best manufacturing company in the country.

Twenty-six firms will get the "National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award 2020" Sunday for continuously improving their productivity and quality.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun will hand out the awards to the winners as the chief guest at an event in the capital, according to the Press Information Department.

In five categories, 26 firms will receive the National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award 2020 and one trade body the "Institutional Appreciation Award 2020" as recognition of their contribution to the industrial sector.

edotco Bangladesh Ltd., an integrated telecommunications infrastructure services company, has recently won multiple awards at the Global Best Employer Awards 2022 in Excellence in Training, Talent Management, and Managing Health at Work categories.

67 individuals, institutions get BB remittance award
Sixty-seven individuals and institutions have been honoured with Bangladesh Bank Remittance Award-2020 under five categories.
The awardees included professionals, traders, remittance receiving banks, exchange houses and remittance sending expatriates.
Though the BB has been giving the award for the last 7 years but organizing the 7th remittance award function was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal handed over the awards as the chief guest at a function held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium in the capital.
BB Governor Fazle Kabir, Secretary to the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr Ahmed Munirus Salehin and Secretary to Financial Institutions Division Sheikh Mohammad Saleem Ullah were present at the function as special guests.
