16 children killed, 45 injured in Ukraine: President Zelenskyy
Ukraine’s president says 16 Ukrainian children have been killed and another 45 have been injured in the Russian invasion.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video message Monday that “every crime, every shelling by the occupiers bring our partners and us even closer.”

He hailed the sanctions that the West slapped on Russia, saying they have brought the Russian currency down. Zelenskyy asked the European Union a special quick path to membership.
Zelenskyy said that over 4,500 Russian troops have been killed and called on Russian soldiers to lay down their guns and leave. “Don’t trust you commanders, don’t trust your propaganda, just save your lives,” he said.

Post-polls violence: 2 killed, 20 injured in Narsingdi
Two people were killed and some 20 more injured on Sunday during a clash between the supporters of newly elected chairman and former chairman of Bashgari Union Parishad in Narsingdi.
The deceased were identified as Rubel Mia, 26 and Mamun Mia,30.
The incident occurred in the morning at Amtali boat terminal in the Raipura upazila.

According to locals, supporters of former UP Chairman Kazi Ashraful Haque had to remain away from the locality for two months after the election due to conflicts with the newly elected UP chairman Zakir Hasan Ratul.
As some supporters of Ashraful tried to enter the area on Sunday a clash with the Zakir Hasan group started and both the parties attacked with spears and fired bullets at each other, they said.
Rubel died on the spot after being hit by a bullet on the head and Mamun succumbed to his injuries at Bancharampur Upazila Health Complex later.
Others injured in the clash are currently being treated at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital and other local private hospitals.

Ataur Rahman, Inspector of Raipura police station said, “ Rubel Mia’s death was confirmed in the clash and his body is currently kept at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. Another man’s death was reported but could not be confirmed yet.”
Police have been deployed in the area and the situation is currently under control, he said.
3 journos injured while reporting on UP polls in Thakurgaon
Three journalists were seriously injured by some miscreants on Saturday while collecting news on upcoming UP elections in Thakurgaon.
The injured journalists are Tanvir Hossain Tanu, district correspondent of Independent television, Mainuddin Talukdar Himel, correspondent for RisingBD website, and Sohel Rana, correspondent of NewsBangla24 and Doinik Bhorer Akash.
According to witnesses, ahead of the Senua Union Parishad set to be held on February 7, candidate Motiur Rahman was conducting his election campaign in Molankhur Mandalpara.

At one point some supporters of his rival candidate attacked the campaigners with arms and as the journalists went to take photos, the miscreants beat them up.
The journalists said their cameras, mobile phones were broken and moneybags were snatched during the attack.
Locals and other journalists rescued the three journalists and admitted them to Thakurgaon General Hospital.

Rakibul Alam Chayan, Resident Medical Officer of the hospital, said the injured received primary medications and further treatments will be provided after examining their physical condition.
Two injured as police charge batons on Qwwali rally
At least two activists of People Activists Coalition (PAC) were injured as police swung batons on their protest rally in front of National Museum on Thursday.
PAC organized the rally in front of the National Museum around 4 pm protesting the attack of Chhatra League on Qwwali Mahfil at TSC on Wednesday.
Police used batons to try to disperse the rally soon after the organisers opened the banner of the programme, said Ratul Mohammad, one of the organizing bodies of People Activist Coalition (PAC).

2 injured in boiler blast in Ctg garment factory
A fire broke out following a boiler explosion at a garment factory in Agrabad Badamtoli area of Chattogram metropolis on Sunday noon, leaving two workers injured.
The workers were injured while trying to rush out of the factory building following the blast.

Chattogram Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Newton Das said the fire started around 1pm when a boiler exploded at Ambia Fashion garment factory in Agrabad.
On information, a unit of fire service rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

1 killed, 40 injured as bus falls into ditch in Magura
A speeding bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Magura on Sunday, killing a bicyclist and injuring 40 of its passengers, police said.
Yakub Ali, 55, of Rahimpur village of Magura sadar upazila, was on bicycle when the bus lost control and hit him before falling into the ditch along Magura-Jashore highway. He died instantly, said Tarak Nath Biswas, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shalikha Police Station.
The injured were sent to a nearby hospital.

Morkaram Hossain, sub-inspector (SI) of Sadar's Ichali Police Camp, said the bus driver and helper escaped soon after the accident. However, the bus was seized.
Steps are underway to take legal action in this regard, the SI added.

4 people injured after shooting at Chicago-area mall
A shooting at a suburban Chicago mall full of Christmas shoppers left four people injured Thursday, police said.
The incident at Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook began with two males involved in a shootout in a corridor around 5:45 p.m., police Chief James Kruger said.
He said the injuries were not life-threatening. Three people who were shot may have been bystanders hit by ricocheting bullets.

One person was in custody, and police were looking for another suspect, Kruger said.
"This is just a very unfortunate incident that is completely out of character for our area,” the chief said.
The outdoor mall is a major shopping destination about 15 miles (24.14 kilometers) west of Chicago. TV stations with aerial cameras showed police cars and emergency vehicles spread across the property with their lights flashing.
Shoppers who were interviewed as they were gradually released said they took cover in stores and dressing rooms.

Alex Gay, 23, said she was walking in the mall when she suddenly saw people running. She didn't hear any gunshots.
“I’m shook up,” Gay told the Chicago Tribune. “It was scary everyone was sprinting out of the mall as sirens went over intercom saying, ‘Emergency. Evacuate. Seek shelter.’ I almost got trampled.”
10 injured in BNP infighting in Chattogram
Ten people were injured in a clash between two factions of BNP during a meeting at the party’s office at Nasimon Bhaban in the city on Tuesday.
Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said local unit BNP decided to hold a series of meetings centering the North District unit council with upazila, municipality and union-level leaders.

The meeting will be arranged in presence of the party’s central leaders.
As per the party’s decision, two meetings were to take place at the party’s office at Nasimon Bhaban on Tuesday.
The leaders of Raozan upazila unit BNP were scheduled to participate in a meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 2 pm, a scuffle took place among the supporter of Sarwar Alamgir, a convener of Fatikchhari unit BNP, and Golam Akbar Khandaker, convener of North district unit BNP when Akbar asked the supporters of Alamgir to leave the place.
At one stage, both groups attacked each other, leaving ten people injured.
However, no complaint was lodged in this connection, said OC.
One killed, 40 injured as two commuter buses collide on Dhaka-Bogura highway
At least one person died and more than 40 others were injured in a collision between two passenger buses
on the busy Dhaka-Bogura highway in the district's Sherpur upazila early on Saturday.
The identities of the deceased and the injured could not be ascertained yet. The victims were occupants of both the buses.

Eye-witnesses told UNB that the accident occurred on the high-speed corridor in the Sherua Battala area of Shahbandegi union around 3.30am when a Dhaka-bound Surja Paribahan bus crashed into a Bogura-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus coming the opposite direction.
The impact of the head-on collision left one person dead and some 40 others injured, and triggered a 1km-long traffic jam on both the carriageways of the highway.

AKM Baniul Anam, in-charge of Sherpur Highway police camp, said the injured were rushed to Sherpur Upazila Hospital and Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. "Both the buses have been seized and the snarls cleared," he said.
3 injured while making bomb in Barishal
Three people suffered severe injuries while making a bomb at a park in Gournadi upazila of Barishal early Saturday, police said.
One of the injured, who lost both his hands, was identified as Harun. Two others could not be immediately identified.
Police said the incident occurred around 12am in Faria Garden Park, owned by Nuruzzaman Farhad, vice chairman of the upazila parishad and joint general secretary of the upazila Awami League.

Bomb maker Harun’s both arms were ripped off in the explosion.
After the explosion they escaped the scene with all the bomb-making equipment, police said.
Meanwhile, police were informed that the injured were undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, but no specific information was received from the hospital authority in this regard.
Sub-inspector of Gournadi police Abul Kalam said that attempts are under way to identify where the injured are undergoing treatment.
Besides, Police arrested park security guard Abdur Rahman for interrogation, he said.

Afzal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Gournadi Police Station, said that a case has been filed under the Explosives Act against four named and 4-5 unnamed in this connection.
Meanwhile, Upazila Vice Chairman Nuruzzaman Farhad Munshi, who was in Dhaka at the time of the explosion, said, “I have heard about the matter. However, the explosion did not happen inside the park but in an abandoned house outside the park area.”
“I learned that some people had entered the park in the middle of the night, threatening the security guards,” he added.
