8 drown in 5 districts during Eid holidays
Eight people, including seven children, drowned in Chattogram, Sylhet, Chapainawabganj, Sherpur and Brahmanbaria districts during Eid holidays.
In Chattogram, two children drowned in a canal in Kolpolok residential area in Bakolia of the city around 1pm on Tuesday while playing near the canal.
The deceased were identified as Md Shamim, 10, and Rabiul Islam, 7, residents of the area.
Sadiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) (investigation) of Panchlaish police station, said locals rescued the children and took them to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where doctors announced them dead on arrival.
In Sylhet, a tourist drowned in the river at Jaflong, a tourist destination, this noon, said Md Ratan Sheikh, in-charge of Jaflong Tourist Police.
The deceased was identified as Mahidul Islam, 19, of Narsingdi district. He was a 2nd year student of Narsingdi Ideal College.
He among three people drowned in the river while taking bath, however, two of them managed to swim to the shore, said the official.
Later, fire service divers recovered Mahidul’s body from the river around 6pm, he added.

In Chapainawabganj, a 12-year-old boy drowned in the Mahananda River in the town this noon, said Mozaffar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar police station.
The deceased was identified as Kawsar, son of Mesbaul Hoque of the district town.
Later, divers of the fire service rescued the boy and rushed him to district Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
In Sherpur, a schoolboy drowned in a pond at a college playground in Pakuria union in the morning while playing football, said Naeem Md Nahid Hasan, inspector (Investigation) of Sherpur Sadar police station.
The deceased was identified as Munayem Islam Mishuk, a class X student of Sherpur Government Technical School and College.
Fire service divers recovered the body around 11am, said the OC.
In Brahmanbaria, two siblings drowned in a pond in Nabinagar upazila Monday evening.
The deceased were identified as Jannat Aktar, 10, and Sadia Aktar, 7, daughters of Md Atik Mia of the upazila.
The siblings slipped into the pond adjacent to their house and drowned, said Md Aminur Rashid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nabinagar police station.
Later, locals recovered the bodies from the pond, he added.
In the district town, a schoolboy drowned in a canal at Kautali Sunday morning while bathing a sacrificial animal in the canal.
The deceased was identified as Nabil Rahman, a grade seven student of Ideal Residential School and College.
Fire service divers rescued Nabil's body from the Karulia canal after five hours of drowning, said district Fire Service Team Leader Md Jewel Mia.
2 indigenous men drown in Rangamati
The bodies of two indigenous men were recovered from the Kachalong river in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati district on Thursday morning, a day after they drowned in the river.
The deceased were identified as Shukar Chakma, 32, and Chirojyoti Chakma, 42, of the upazila.

Locals said the duo drowned while fishing in the river on Wednesday. The divers of fire service failed to rescue them after conducting an operation.
Some residents of Rupkari union spotted Shukar’s body near Bijoy ghat area and Chirojyoti’s body in Golachhari area around 6am today, said Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rumana Akhter.
The bodies were handed over to their respective families after completing legal procedures, she added.
Two children drown in Cumilla
Two children drowned in separate incidents in Brahmanpara upazila of Cumilla on Saturday.The deceased were identified as Hossain, 1, son of Md Farhad of Shidlai village and Tanim, 4, son of Md Zakir of Nagaish village.According to hospital sources, Hossain was playing in the courtyard at noon and suddenly slipped into the pond adjacent to the house.

Youth drowns in Padma River
A youth drowned in the Padma River in the Baliaghat area of Dikrirchar union of Faridpur Sadar on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Md Shakil, 21, son of Md Nuruddin of the Goalchamot area of the town. He worked in an eatery in the town.
According to locals, Shakil along with his friends came to visit the Baliaghat area for bathing in the Padma River. At one stage, Shakil was swept away by the current. Shakil’s friend tried to rescue him but failed.

Later, locals informed the Faridpur fire service.
On information, a diving team of Faridpur Fire Service recovered Shakil's body around 4 pm, said Mehedi Hasan, UP chairman of the Dicrirchar Union.
Faridpur Fire Service senior station officer Subhash Barai said Shakil's body was found drowning at a distance of about 20 to 25 meters from the place where he had drowned.
Two teens drown in NCC lake
Two teenage boys drowned in the lake of Narayanganj City Corporation on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Imtiaz Ahmed, 14, son of Iqbal Khan of Deobhog area of Fatullah and Mihad Hossain, 13, son of Zakir Miah of the same area. They were both students of the local Deobhog Madrasa.

The duo drowned in the lake while bathing before Juma prayer, said Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of the Narayanganj Fire Service.
Locals recovered the bodies and informed the fire service.
On information, fire service officials rushed to the spot and handed over the bodies to their families, Arefin added.

Two kids drown in Chandpur
Two minors drowned in a pond near their home in the village of Munsirhat Dighaldi in Matlab Dakshin upazila of Chandpur district on Thursday noon.
The deceased were identified as Minhaj, 3, son of Mizan Mridha, and Hanjala, son of Muktar Mijhi of the same age.
Neighbour Al Amin said Minhaj and Hanjala were playing near the pond adjacent to their house, when at one stage they fell into the pond.
Later, family members found their lifeless bodies floating on the surface of the pond and took them to Chandpur government general hospital, where doctors declared them officially dead, said Dr Animash Chakroborty.

6 kids drown in 3 districts
Six children drowned in Jashore, Chapainawabganj and Dinajpur districts on Monday.
In Jashore, three children drowned in a pond at Srirampur village in Bagharpara upazila around 12:30 pm when they were taking bath.
The deceased were identified as Toma,8, daughter of Harun Molla, Sumaiya, 8, daughter of Kamrul Islam, and Hosain,5, son of Syed Molla from Srirampur village.
Firoz Uddin, officer-in-Charge of Bagharpara police station, said locals rescued the bodies and took to upazila health complex where doctors announced them dead on arrival.

In Chapainawabganj, two children drowned in a pond in Tikrampur Madhyapara area of the municipality at noon.
The deceased were identified as Didar Ahmed,5, son of Delwar Hossain of the area and Tisha,4, daughter of Mohammad Hossain.
Didar and Tisha slipped into the pond near their house around 12pm while playing beside it, said Mozaffar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar police station.
Locals found the floating bodies of the two children and took them to Chapainawabganj Sadar hospital where doctors declared the duo dead, the OC added.
In Dinajpur, A minor child drowned in a pond in Nawabganj upazila of the district in the morning.
The deceased was Taslima, 2, daughter of Tara Mandal of Haripur Mandbachan village of Golapganj union.
According to the locals, Taslima was playing near a pond adjacent to her house around 10am and fell into the pond.

Family members rescued her and took her to Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead, said Ferdous Wahid, officer-in-charge, of Nawabganj police station.
Police: 2 children drown in Dinajpur
Two children drowned at separate places in Dinajpur on Friday, police said.
Swadhin Islam, 13, son of Sirajul Islam of Aftabganj of Nawabganj upazila drowned while taking bath in a pond at the Shiv Mandir area with other children, said sub-inspector Rezaul Islam, in-charge of the Aftabganj police outpost in Nawabganj.

Meanwhile, a 9-year-old girl, Shimla Akhter, daughter of Abdus Salam of Shankarpur in Birol upazila, drowned in a pond at Shankarpur mahalla on Friday afternoon, police said.
1 tourist drowns, another missing in Karnaphuli River
A tourist drowned and another went missing in the Karnaphuli River of Rangamati on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Lokesh Vaidya, son of Apu Vaidya of Shakpura village in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram district. He was a first-year-student of Chattogram Islamia College.
The missing tourist was his friend Apurba Saha, 18, resident of Chattogram Sadarghat area.
The Navy diving team based in Kaptai recovered the body of Lokesh after a two-hour effort in the evening. Efforts are on to recover Apurba’s body, said Navy sources.
According to the deceased’s friends, around 3 pm, six friends went down to take a bath in the Karnaphuli and started drowning due to the river’s strong current.
Fighting against the current, three of them managed to swim ashore and another was rescued by Fire Service members, two friends went missing.
On information, a four-member naval diving team led by Lt. Commander Faizul Islam Mandal and Lt. Commander Selim Reza started searching for the missing tourist in the Sita Ghat area at 4:39 pm and recovered Lokesh’s body. Apurba however couldn't be found till filing of this report past midnight.
Nurul Karim, an inspector at the Kaptai Fire Service and Civil Defense said that the diving team is conducting rescue operations in and around the scene to recover the body of the missing youth.

3-yr-old cousins drown in Brahmanbaria
Two children, both cousins aged three, have drowned in a pond in Brahmanbaria’s Kasba upazila, police said on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Mosaiba Akhter, daughter of Jewel Miah of Tinlakhpir village of the upazila, and her cousin Sanaul Haque.

The tragedy occurred in Tinlakhpir village of the upazila on Thursday.
Monir Hossain, a local union council member, said Sanaul came with his family to visit his grandfather's house in the village during the Eid holidays. "In the afternoon, he was playing with his cousin when both of them fell into the pond and downed."

Officer-in-charge of Kasba Police Station, Mohammad Alamgir Bhuiyan, said that cops were sent to the spot "after we were alerted".
