Fire at Kamrangirchar polythene factory under control
A fire broke that out in a polythene manufacturing factory at Koylar Ghat in the city’s Kamrangirchar on Thursday was brought under control.
The fire started around 4:30 pm.

Four firefighting units immediately rushed to the spot and managed to control the flames after one and half an hour, said Md Shahjahan Shikdar, Deputy assistant director (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The origin of the fire is yet to be known, he said.
No casualties were reported.

Dentist stabbed dead ‘by muggers’ in city
A 34-year-old dentist was stabbed to death allegedly by muggers at Shewrapara in the city’s Mirpur area early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Ahmed Mahi Bulbul who worked in a clinic at Moghbazar. He was well known as ‘Gariber Doctor (The doctor of the poor)’ in his locality.
Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Model Police Station, said police recovered the body of Ahmed lying in a pool of blood under the Metrorail pillar no-278 on the road of Shewrapara around 6 am and sent it to Suhrawardi Medical College and Hospital morgue.

Primarily it is suspected that he was killed by muggers, said the OC.
However, police also recovered cash Tk 12,000 and a mobile phone set from his possession.
Police are investigating the incident, he said.
Meanwhile, a relative of the victim said Dr. Ahmed Mahi Bulbul was a kind man. Always smiling face Dr Bulbul got the title 'the doctor of the poor' providing free treatment. So he is not supposed to have such enemies. But besides medicine, he was in the contracting business for about 5 years, he said requesting anonymity.
Bulbul recently got a work order worth Tk 12 crore. He was supposed to go to Noakhali in the morning for that purpose. He was supposed to take Saurabh, a painter, with him.
Talking to reporters at Suhrawardi Medical College and Hospital morgue, Sourav said the decision to go to Noakhali was taken last night (Saturday). “Sir (Bulbul) called me around 4:00 am this morning (Sunday). After picking up the phone, he asked me to come to Farmgate after Fajr prayers.”
“When I came to Farmgate and called him, he told me that he had started for Farmgate. But after some time, I could not get Sir on the phone. I repeatedly rang him,but did not get any response. About an hour later, someone picked up the phone and said he is police,” Sourabh added.
“As I was asked to go to the hospital, I went there, I saw that Sir was dead,” he said.
Kalyanpur slum fire under control
A fire that broke out at the capital's Kalyanpur slum on Sunday was completely doused after two hours.
The blaze started around 8:50 pm at the number 9 slum near Notun Bazar, said Md Shahjahan Shikdar, Deputy assistant director (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Fourteen firefighting units managed to douse the flames around 11:15 pm, he said.
No casualties were reported yet ant the cause of fire can be identified after an investigation, he added.

2 killed in separate city road accidents
Two people were killed in separate road crashes in Badda and Gulshan areas of the capital on Monday.
The deceased were identified as carpenter Md Azmir Sheikh, 27, of Pabna district and Sakhina Aktar, 28, a cleaner of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
In Badda, Azmir was injured after being hit by a truck while crossing the road in front of Hossain Market area early Monday.

He was later rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead around 6am.
In Gulshan, Sakhina sustained injuries on her head after being hit by a microbus while she was sweeping the road at Coca-Cola intersection in the early hours of Monday.
She was rushed to a local hospital first and then shifted to DMCH where she succumbed to her injuries around 5:30am.

The bodies were kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
Woman loses legs under wheels of train in city
An unidentified woman lost both her legs under the wheels of a train at Khilgaon railgate area of the capital on Sunday noon.
She is aged around 20, could not be identified yet, said police.
Mehedi Hasan, sub-inspector (SI) of Shahjahanpur police station, said the woman, draped in a white cloth, was lying unconsciously on the railway line in the Khilgaon railgate area with her legs severed from her knees around 2:30pm.

After receiving a call from the National Emergency Service 999, police took her to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), he added.
Later, she was shifted to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Efforts are on to identify the victim, said the SI.

Pedestrian killed in city road crash
A 45-year-old man died after being allegedly hit by a speeding vehicle while crossing a road in the city's Jatrabari area in the small hours of Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Omar Faruk, a resident of Uttar Jatrabari.

The accident occurred around 1am when an unknown vehicle knocked him down when he was crossing the road, leaving him injured, said Saddam Hossain, sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

“Efforts are on to identify the vehicle and arrest its driver,” said the SI.
Young man trapped in deep hole, rescued in city
In a daring drive firemen rescued a 24-year-old youth who fell into a 40-feet deep tunnel-like void space surrounded by four multi-storied buildings in the city’s Gandaria in the small hours of Monday.
Deputy assistant director (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defense, Md Shahjahan Shikdar, said the man, identified by his first name Salman, fell into void space (measuring 3feet by 2 feet) around 12:45 am while passing the road.
On information, a rescue team of fire servicemen from Sutrapur Fire Service, led by DAD Bazlur Rashid went to the spot and heard the groans from Salman.

After getting a response from Salman, a member of the fire service got down into the hole and pulled the trapped man out from it around 2:20 am.
Rescuers used breathing apparatus and other equipment to pull him out.
However, the exact circumstances of how he fell are unclear.

Salman was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital as he got injured in his back.
Child sexually abused in city, tutor held
A class three girl student has been sexually abused allegedly by her house tutor in the city’s Mirpur area.
The tutor Shawkat Hossain, also an official of Agrani Bank, sexually abused the child when he came to teach her at her home around 10 pm on Saturday, alleged the child’s mother.

The mother said the child went to her mother crying shortly after the house tutor arrived as she was bleeding. She also told her mother about the abuse.
The child was admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in the small hours of Sunday, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH outpost.
Police arrested Shawkat in this regard. Steps are being made to file a case against the tutor, said the child’s mother.

Man stabbed dead by muggers in city
A 55-year old man was stabbed to death by muggers in the city’s Sayedabad area on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, a grocer and son of Harun-ur-Rashid of Gangarampur village in Gopalganj’s Muksudpur upazila.
He used to live in Gandaria’s Ghuntighar area.
Muggers attacked Mosharraf at 4 am near Saidabad bridge when he was going to work.

They stabbed him on the chest, took away his money and mobile phone set, said the deceased’s nephew Shahjalal.
After the incident, he was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at 5.30 am where doctors declared him dead.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy, said Bachchu Mia, police inspector at the DMCH police outpost.
Traveling art exhibition 'Heroes of Our Time' begins in city
International School Dhaka (ISD) has recently introduced a traveling art exhibition titled 'Heroes of Our Time' at Evercare Hospital Dhaka.
Showcasing an ardent tribute to the healthcare community for their care and support in keeping everyone safe during the ongoing pandemic, the art exhibition is being held at ten different locations inside Evercare Hospital Dhaka, with boards filled with thought-provoking art pieces.
"Doctors, nurses, and people working in the healthcare sector are particularly vulnerable to the novel coronavirus. Yet every day, frontline workers in hospitals, health centers, care facilities, etc., make sure to keep the systems running to save lives and reduce the sufferings of people. In recognition of their bravery and compassion, ISD is taking a moment to acknowledge the healthcare workers who continue to be at the forefront of the global crisis by arranging this moving art exhibit," according to the organizers.

Bridget Mutasa, Visual Art Teacher, and Personal Project Coordinator at ISD said, “Covid-19 has drastically changed our lives over the course of more than two years. As a token of gratitude towards these front fighters for their endless support in keeping us safe, we have come together to pay a tribute through a traveling art exhibition."
"Our students have created a series of reflective and outward-looking artwork in the spirit of solidarity, courage, and kindness. We hope that this initiative will instill smiles and courage among everyone during this difficult time," he added.
Students from grades three to ten, teachers, and staff from ISD have come together to create inspiring artwork that each depicts different narratives of empathy, humanity, and valor. ISD will be taking this exhibition in various places soon for a broader range of people to view the art pieces.
