Dengue death toll rises to 12 as 2 more die; 65 new patients hospitalised
Two more people died of dengue and 65 others were hospitalised in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
With these, the authorities recorded 12 deaths from the viral infection this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS)..
The latest deaths were reported from Cox’s Bazar district.
Among the deaths this year, eight were reported from Cox’s Bazar while four from Dhaka.

Of the new patients, 51 patients were hospitalised in Dhaka while the 14 in other places, it said.
As many as 322 dengue patients including 246 in the capital are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
On June 21, the DGHS reported the first death of the season from the viral disease.
This year, the DGHS has recorded 2,812 dengue cases and 2,478 recoveries so far.
Flood: Death toll stands at 136
The death toll from floods in the country rose to 136 with another death in Sylhet district in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
The total deaths were recorded from May 17 to August 2, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the deceased, 76 were from Sylhet, 43 from Mymensingh, 14 from Rangpur and one from Dhaka division.

One hundred and seven people drowned in floodwaters, 16 died by lightning strikes, two from snake bites, one from diarrhoea, and nine others due to other reasons.
Around 24,838 people were hit by floods during the same period.
Forty four upazilas were affected by floods, including 33 in Sylhet, three in Rangpur, seven in Mymensingh and one in Chattogram divisions.
Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona and Moulvibazar were the worst-hit districts, with 13, 11, seven and five upazilas affected by floods respectively.
Administering 2nd dose of oral cholera vaccine begins August 3 in 5 Dhaka areas
icddr,b, under the supervision of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), will administer the second dose of oral cholera vaccine from August 3-10.
It will administer the second dose of oral cholera vaccine from 8am until 4pm (except Friday, 5 August and Ashura Day on Tuesday, 9 August).
A total of 2.36 million residents of Jatrabari, Dakshin Khan, Sabujbagh, Mohammadpur and Mirpur of Dhaka city who received the first-dose of oral cholera vaccination will be given the second-dose during this vaccination drive.
Those who received the first-dose between 26 June and 2 July can receive the second-dose by presenting their vaccine card at their respective vaccine centres.

On this occasion, the Director of Disease Control and Line Director Disease Control Programme, DGHS, Professor Dr Mohammad Nazmul Islam, said they have received an overwhelming response from the residents of five areas of Dhaka and have been able to vaccinate a record number of residents in a very short time.
“We hope that those who have received the first dose of cholera vaccine must protect themselves against the disease by receiving the second dose as well,” he said.
Dr Firdausi Qadri, Senior Scientist and Acting Senior Director of Infectious Diseases Division at icddr,b urged everyone to get vaccinated with the oral cholera vaccine, and maintain disease preventive measures such as the use of safe water, safe sanitation and personal hygiene, to be protected from many infectious diseases including diarrhoea.
The two-dose Euvichol-Plus Cholera vaccine produced by EuBiologics Co. Ltd., South Korea, which is given at least 14 days apart, will be administered to those who are above one year of age.

This vaccine is prequalified by the World Health Organization, and can be given to all except pregnant women and those who have received any other vaccine within the last 14 days.
icddr,b is undertaking the largest cholera vaccination campaign with support from the Dhaka North and South City Corporation and under the supervision of the DGHS.
The campaign is also supported by the National Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), World Health Organization, UNICEF, International Red Cross and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, and MSF. It is being funded by The Vaccine Alliance, GAVI.
The vaccination drive is being implemented through 700 vaccination centres in Jatrabari, Dakshin Khan, Sabujbagh, Mohammadpur and Mirpur.
Residents of these areas are being urged to take precautionary measures against COVID-19 while taking the cholera vaccine to prevent the disease and to assist in the vaccination campaign.

One more person died due to floods across the country in the 24 hours to Sunday morning.
The number of reported fatalities, from May 17 to July 31, rose to 135, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the deceased, 75 were from Sylhet, 43 from Mymensingh, 16 from Rangpur and one from Dhaka divisions.
One hundred and seven people drowned in the floodwaters, 16 died in lightning strikes, two from snake bites, one from diarrhoea, and nine due to other reasons.
Also, around 27,268 people were hit by floods during the same period.

61 more dengue patients hospitalised in 24 hrs
Sixty-one more dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among them, 58 patients were hospitalised in Dhaka while the remaining three in other places, it said.
As many as 311 dengue patients including 238 in the capital are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

On Tuesday, this year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne viral disease rose to eight with another death reported from Cox’s Bazar. Among the deaths, five were reported from Cox’s Bazar while three from Dhaka.
On June 21, the DGHS reported the first death of the season from the viral disease.
This year, the DGHS has recorded 2,366 dengue cases and 2,047 recoveries so far.
Covid-19 in Bangladesh: 5 more die, 626 new cases reported in 24hrs
Bangladesh recorded five more Covid-19-linked deaths with 626 new cases in 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
With the latest figures, the country's total fatalities reached 29,280 while the caseload 2,003,570, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case positivity rate rose to 6.83 per cent from Tuesday's 6.14 per cent as 9,225 samples were tested.
The deceased included three men and two women. Four of them were from Dhaka, and another from Mymensingh division.

The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.46 percent. The recovery rate rose to 96.79 per cent from Tuesday's 96.78 per cent.
In June, the country reported 18 Covid-linked deaths and 20,201 new cases, according to the DGHS.
Bangladesh reported its first zero Covid death on November 20 last year since the pandemic broke out here in March 2020.
The country registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 in the same year.
Two more deaths push up flood toll to 131
The death toll from floods in the country rose to 131 with two more deaths in Lalmonirhat district in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
The deaths were recorded from May 17 to July 26, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest victims drowned in floodwater, it added.
Of the deceased, 73 were from Sylhet, 43 from Mymensingh, 14 from Rangpur and one from Dhaka division.

From Dec, only Covid booster dose will be available in Bangladesh
A wake-up call for those who are yet to receive their first or second Covid shots -- from December, only the booster dose will be administered in Bangladesh.
“The first or the second dose of Covid vaccines will not be available in Bangladesh after November, as by then the existing stock will expire. Also, the possibility of purchasing more vaccines is little," Shamsul Haque, member secretary of the vaccine management committee of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) told UNB.

“From August, we will start the campaign to vaccinate children aged between five and 11 years against Covid-19,” he added.
The high-ranking DGHS official said the booster dose campaign would continue across the country, "but people are still showing reluctance to get vaccinated".
According to the directorate, a significant number of people, 70 percent, who have died of Covid so far in the country were not vaccinated against the disease.

Another death takes flood toll to 127: DGHS
The death toll from the devastating flood in the country rose to 127 with another death in Moulvibazar district in 24 hours till Thursday morning.
The latest victim drowned in floodwater, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The total deaths were recorded between May 17 and July 21, it said.
Besides, some 22,393 people have been affected by flood during the period, it added.

Of the total deceased, 100 people drowned in flood water, 15 were struck by lightning, two died of snake bites, one from diarrhea, and nine others due to other reasons.
Of the deceased, 73 people died in Sylhet, 41 in Mymensingh, 12 in Rangpur and one in Dhaka division, the DGHS said.
Of a total of 45 flood-hit upazilas, 33 are in Sylhet division, four in Rangpur division, seven in Mymensingh division and one in Chattogram division.

Covid-19: Bangladesh logs one death, 1,104 new cases
Bangladesh registered one more Covid-linked death with 1,104 cases in 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
With the latest figures, the country's total fatalities reached 29,250 while the caseload 1,999,395, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The deceased was a woman from Chattogram division.

The daily case positivity rate increased to 12.20 per cent from Tuesday's 9.66 per cent as 9,055 samples were tested.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.46 per cent. The recovery rate rose to 96.52 per cent from Monday's 96.51 per cent as 1,242 patients recovered during this period.
In June, the country reported 18 Covid-linked deaths and 20,201 new cases, according to the DGHS.
