Global Covid cases top 251 million
The overall number of Covid cases has surged past 251 million amid the global race to vaccinate masses against the infectious disease.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 251,348,332 while the death toll from the virus reached 5,0171,757 Thursday morning.
The US has recorded 46,786,131 cases to date and more than 758,877 people have died so far from the virus in the country, as per the university data.
Brazil on Wednesday registered 280 more deaths from Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, raising the national death toll to 610,036, said the Health Ministry.
Authorities also registered 12,273 new daily Covid-19 cases, bringing the total caseload to 21,909,298.
Brazil has seen an average of 257 deaths and 10,502 new cases per day in the last week.
The South American country currently has a rate of 290.3 deaths and 10,425.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the ministry.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 34,388,579 on Wednesday, as 10,126 new cases were registered in 24 hours across the country, as per the health ministry data.

Besides, as many as 460 deaths due to the pandemic were reported since Tuesday morning, taking the total death toll to 461,849.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged two more Covid-linked deaths and reported 235 fresh infections in 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
The daily case positivity rate slightly increased to 1.31 percent from Tuesday’s 1.28 percent.
The fresh numbers took the total fatalities to 27,906 while the country’s caseload mounted to 1,571,669, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the deceased, one was a man and another was a woman. However, the mortality rate remained static at 1.78 percent.
The fresh cases were detected after testing 18,023 samples, said the directorate.
Besides, the recovery rate remained unchanged at 97.71 percent, with the recovery of 271 more patients during the period.
On Saturday, the country saw just a single death from Covid-19, which was the lowest in nearly 18 months, along with 154 cases.
So far, 3,19,63,515 people have fully been vaccinated in the country, while 4,91,14,462 received the first dose as of Tuesday, according to DGHS.
Global cases near 250 million

Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged just a single Covid-related death in 24 hours till Saturday morning, the lowest in nearly 18 months.
During the period, the country also registered 154 fresh cases, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Bangladesh reported its first death from Covid-19 on March 18, 2020.
The person who died during the period was a man.
The fresh numbers took the total fatality to 27,891 while the country’s caseload mounted to 1,570,835.
Meanwhile, the daily-case positivity rate slightly increased to 1.18 per cent from Friday’s 1.12 per cent.
However, the mortality rate remained static at 1.78 per cent.
The fresh cases were detected after testing 13, 072 samples, said the DGHS.

Also, the recovery rate remained unchanged at 97.70 per cent with the recovery of 157 more patients during the period.
So far, 30,521, 391people have fully been vaccinated in the country while 43,356,273 received the first dose as of Friday, according to the DGHS.
Meanwhile, the campaign to vaccinate the school students of the 12-17 age group began in Dhaka on Monday.
The vaccination campaign will be conducted at eight centres in the capital although it was scheduled to begin at 12 centres in the city. Other centres did not get approval due to lack of adequate facilities.

Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh logged six more Covid-linked deaths and another 211 cases of infections in 24 hours till Sunday morning.
The country reported eight deaths caused by the deadly virus and 166 cases on Saturday.
However, the daily-case positivity rate declined to 1.22 per cent from Saturday’s 1.25 per cent.
The fresh cases were detected after testing 17,226 samples, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the fresh numbers, the Covid-19 fatalities reached 27,868 while the caseload climbed to 1,569,539, according to the DGHS.
Among the deceased, two were men and four were women.
However, the mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.78 per cent.

Also, the recovery rate increased to 97.70 per cent with the recovery of 276 more patients during the period.
Mass vaccination
Bangladesh on Thursday launched the second phase of its special nationwide mass vaccination drive, aiming to vaccinate 80 lakh people with the second shot in a day.
The 9am-3pm vaccination drive was part of the special campaign that was first unveiled on September 27 to mark Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 75th birthday.
On September 28, the first phase of the special nationwide mass vaccination drive was launched.
However, that target to inoculate 80 lakh people was not met in a single day. Across eight divisions, 66,25,123 people were vaccinated, "which is a record number of jabs inoculated in Bangladesh in a single day", the DGHS said.
Besides, 80,93,236 people were vaccinated with the first dose under this campaign, which spilled over to September 29.
Bangladesh on August 7 kicked off its mass vaccination drive to inoculate some 35 lakh people in six days.
Vaccinating school students
A new campaign to vaccinate school students, aged 12-17, against Covid-19 kicked off at 8 centers in Dhaka on Monday.
Some 40,000 students will be vaccinated every day under the campaign, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque while talking to reporters after the cabinet meeting on Thursday.
Global Covid cases top 240 million
The overall number of global Covid cases has now surged past 240 million, despite the ongoing mass inoculations in several countries.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total Covid case count and fatalities stand at 240,043,461 and 4,889,036, respectively, as of Saturday morning.
The US has recorded 44,884,474 cases and 723,747 fatalities to date, according to the university data.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 34,037,592 on Friday as 16,862 new confirmed cases were registered in the past 24 hours across the South Asian country, as per the federal health ministry data.
An additional 379 deaths from the pandemic were recorded during this period, taking the total death toll to 451,814.

Brazil currently has the world's second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India.
Brazil has registered 21,627,476 cases so far. The country's Covid death toll has also risen to 602,669 as it has been experiencing a new wave of cases since January.
Situation in Bangladesh
Covid-19 claimed nine more lives in Bangladesh and infected 396 others in 24 hours till Friday morning.
With the fresh numbers, the Covid-19 fatalities reached 27,746 in the country while the caseload rose to 15,64,881, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the latest deceased, five were women and four men. Six of them died in Dhaka division, two in Chattogram and one in Sylhet division.

Bangladesh last logged seven Covid-19 deaths on October 8, the lowest since March 17 this year when the country recorded 11 such deaths.
The fresh cases were detected after testing 18,980 samples.
With this, the daily case positivity rate declined slightly to 2.09 percent. However, the mortality rate remained static at 1.77 percent.
Besides, the recovery rate increased slightly to 97.57 percent, with 523 more patients getting cured during the period.
So far, 15,26,891 people have recovered from the deadly virus infection, the DGHS said.
Global Covid death toll tops 4.7 million
The global Covid death toll has now surpassed 4.7 million as the race for mass vaccination continues.
The total caseload and fatalities from the virus stand at 234,239,476 and 4,790,858, respectively, as of Saturday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
So far, 6,261,231,161 Covid vaccine doses have been administered across the globe, as per the university data.

India's Covid-19 tally on Friday rose to 33,766,707 as 26,727 new confirmed cases were registered in the past 24 hours nationwide, as per the federal health ministry data.
The ministry also reported 277 more deaths from the pandemic during the period, bringing the total death toll to 448,339.
Brazil, registered 506 more deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, pushing up the national death toll to 597,255, the health ministry said Friday.
A total of 18,578 new infections were detected during the period, raising the total caseload to 21,445,651, the ministry said.

Situation in Bangladesh
Covid-19 in Bangladesh claimed 21 more lives and infected 847 others in 24 hours till Friday morning, showing a slight decrease in the number of fatalities and decrease in cases compared to that of the previous day.
On Thursday, the country logged 23 Covid deaths and 860 cases.
The new cases till Friday morning were detected after testing 24,670 samples.
The daily case positivity rate rose to 3.43 percent from Thursday’s 3.24 percent, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With this, the daily case positivity rate of Covid-19 in the country remained below 5 percent for the ninth consecutive day.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), if the daily-case positivity rate remains at 5 percent or below for 14 days, it is considered safe for mass unlocking.
The fresh numbers took the total fatalities to 27,531 while the caseload mounted to 15,56,758, said the DGHS. However, the mortality rate remained static at 1.77 percent.
The recovery rate slightly increased to 97.44 percent with the recovery of 960 more patients during the period. So far, 15,16,901 people have recovered from the deadly virus infections, the DGHS said.

The overall number of global Covid cases is fast nearing 222 million, as the world is still struggling to contain the second wave of the pandemic even with mass inoculations underway.
According to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 221,873,412 and the death toll reached 4,585,547 on Wednesday morning.
So far, 5, 527,520,653 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 40,279,732 cases. Besides, 650,511people have lost their lives in the US to date, as per the JHU data.

The country last saw 54 coronavirus-related deaths on June 18 and the upswing in the fatalities reached its peak on August 5 and 10 when 264 deaths were recorded.
However, the situation was much more catastrophic than June and the latter part of August as the country experienced a surge in Covid-related cases and deaths during that time.
Between May and June this year, there was a 273% rise in monthly caseloads and 162% in fatalities. In July, there was a 150% increase in caseloads and a 170% rise in deaths compared to the previous month, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The government on Tuesday started administering the second doses of Covid-19 vaccine under its mass vaccination campaign, aiming to fight the deadly virus.

On the other hand, as many as 4,610,658,306 vaccine doses have been administered across the world.

Situation In Bangladesh
As Bangladesh races to head off a surge in Covid-19 cases driven by the Delta variant, the country added 212 fatalities to its national tally on Friday, up from 166 logged a week earlier.
The country has been shattering the records of daily cases and deaths almost every other day, reporting over 200 single-day fatalities for the last six days as it tries to prevent the spread of the Delta variant.

The country reported the highest daily Covid-19 fatality number – 258 – on July 27 and 16,230 infections the next day.
There have been 1,240,115 infections and 20,467 coronavirus-related deaths here since the pandemic began, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
