Cop killed in Bogura road crash
A sub-inspector (SI) was killed when a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw he was in on Bogura-Naogaon regional highway in Sadar upazila of Bogura, said police on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Bikash Chandra Sarker, 38, of Naogaon. He was posted in 4th Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in Cox's Bazar.
The accident occurred on Sunday night, when a speeding truck hit the auto rickshaw on the highway while SI Bikash was returning from Chapainawabganj to his residence in Bogura, leaving the occupants of the auto rickshaw seriously injured, said Selim Reza, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bogura Sadar police station.

Later, locals rushed the injured to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital where the doctor declared Bikash dead, he added.
Police couldn’t seize the killer truck as it fled immediately after the accident, said the OC.
The body will be handed over to the deceased’s family after completing legal procedures, he added.
Crane operator electrocuted to death in Bogura
A crane operator was electrocuted to death and his helper sustained injuries while installing an electric pole in the Khamarbari area of Bogura’s Adamdighi upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Nazim Uddin, 36, son of Taju Mia from Nemshikali village of Kutubdia upazila under Cox’s Bazar district.
According to locals, a group of workers hired by contractor company Nesco Limited had been installing electric poles in various villages of the upazila for a long time.
“The accident happened when the crane that Nazim and helper Harunur Rashid were operating came in contact with a live wire during the installation of a pole," said Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Adamdighi police station.
Both of them were rushed to Adamdighi Upazila Health Complex where Nazim died of his injuries a little later, he added. "Harun is currently undergoing treatment at the health complex."

Two killed in Bogura road crash
Two people were killed and four others injured when a speeding bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Bogura highway in Hamchayapur area of Bogura’s Sherpur upazila Thursday noon.
One of the deceased was identified as driver of the three-wheeler Abdul Based, 30, son of Shahar Uddin from Birail village of Sherpur upazila’s Mirzapur union.
Identity of the other deceased couldn’t be known immediately, said Shahadat Hossain, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sherpur Highway Police Outpost.
He said the accident occurred when the bus rammed into the three-wheeler while giving side to a motorcycle coming from the wrong direction.
The collision left six people travelling the three-wheeler critically injured.
All of them were taken to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment where one of the injured died upon arrival.

The rest were transferred to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMC) where another person breathed his last a while later.
The remaining four are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Although the bus driver and his helper managed to flee, police seized the bus, said AKM Baniul Anam, In-charge of Sherpur Highway Police Outpost.
Journo killed in Bogura road crash
A local journalist was killed while four other people sustained injuries when a truck crashed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Shahjahanpur upazila of Bogura, police said on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Golam Nabi Rahman, a resident of the district. He worked as a journalist with local daily 'Dainik Kaler Khobor'.
All the injured are aged between 50 and 70, said police.

The accident occurred around 6pm on Wednesday when the truck, hired for a project of the Roads and Highways Department on Shakpala Road, hit the auto on the stretch as the three-wheeler was heading towards the town, police said.
"The crash left all five occupants of the auto seriously injured," said Raju Kamal, a sub-inspector at Koigari police outpost.
The injured were rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital, where Golam Nabi succumbed to his injuries around 9pm, he added.
Minor girl dies of snakebite in Bogura
A minor girl died of snakebite in Nandigram upazila of the district Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Sohamoni, 3, daughter of Abdus Sattar of Doupukuria village in the upazila.
Morshedul Bari, chairman of Bhatra union parishad, said the child was playing at the backyard of its house in the morning.

Suddenly, a venomous snake bit the child while playing there, leaving her injured.
She was rushed to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where physicians pronounced her dead, the chairman added.
Road crashes claim 26 lives in 9 districts
At least 26 people including eight members of three families were killed and 40 others injured in separate road accidents in 9 districts on Saturday, police said.
In Tangail, four people were killed and 15 others injured when a commuter bus crashed into a truck parked along the busy Dhaka-Tangail highway in Mirzapur upazila early in the morning.
The deceased were Alak Roy, 38, Binoy Roi, 40, of Pirganj upazila of Rangpur, Shakhawat Hossain, 36 of Madhupur upazila and Jakaria, 32 of Barishal.
Molla Tutul, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gorai Highway Police Station, said the accident occurred around 4:30am when the ‘Binimoy Paribahan’ bus hit the stationary sand-laden truck from behind in the Dulla Mansur area.
"The impact left three passengers dead on the spot and 16 others injured. The injured were rushed to a local hospital where one of them was declared dead on arrival," he said.
In another accident, three members of a family were killed after being hit by a bus at Pakulya on the same highway.
The deceased were Parvin Begum, 27, her son Sumon, 7 and daughter Sadia,10, hailing from Banshtoil village in Mirzapur upazila.
In Bogura, four people, including a father –son duo, were killed and another one injured when a truck hit a private car at Kalia Pukur in Kahalu upazila this morning.
The deceased were identified as Tanser Ali, 60, his son Tagar Ali, 35, Abdur Rahman, 35, son of Mafiz Uddin, and Sumon, 30, a private car driver.
Ambar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kahalu Police Station, said the accident occurred around 8am when the Naogaon-bound truck from Bogura hit the private car at Dargahat, leaving three people dead on the spot and two others injured.
The injured were taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, where doctors declared Abdur Rahman dead on arrival.
In Mymensingh, three members of a family were killed as a truck knocked them down in court bhaban area of Trishal upazila on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway this afternoon.
The deceased were Jahangir Alam, 35, his eight-month pregnant wife Ratna Begum,26 and their two and a hald years old daughter Jannat Ara.
Ranta gave birth to a daughter when the accident occurred local people took the newborn to uapzila health complex and then to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Locals said Jahangir went to Trishal upazila headquarter along with his wife Ratna and child for a medical test of his pregnant wife.
The Mymensingh-bound goods-laden truck knocked down the three while they were crossing the road around 2:30 pm, leaving the trio dead on the spot, said Officer-in-charge of Trishal police station Md Main Uddin.
The truck has been seized and a case will be filed, he said.

Dozen killed on roads in 5 districts
Twelve people were killed and fourteen others injured in several road accidents in Bogura, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Cumilla and Pabna districts on Friday.
In Bogura, two unidentified people were killed and ten others injured in a head-on collision between two buses belonging to ‘Kaliyakour Paribahan and Naogan Travels Paribahan’ at Ghoga bridge area on the Dhaka-Borgua highway at around 3:30pm, said Siddikur Rahman, an officer of Sherpur Fire service and civil defense station.
The injured were undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, said Baniul Alam, in-charge of Sherpur highway police camp.
In Gazipur, three motorcycle riders were killed and a minor child was also injured when a private car hit their bike on the Konabari flyover in Gazipur on Friday noon.
The deceased were identified as Raju Islam, 26, Md Shamim, 26 and Shahin Islam, 31; all the victims hailed from Konabari’s Dewliyapara area.
Md Shakhawat Imtiaz, a Sub-Inspector (SI) of Konabari police station, said the three youths met the tragic end when the private car hit their bike while crossing the Konabari flyover on Friday noon.
In Narayanganj, a private university student was killed and three others were injured when a bus of ‘Soudia Paribahan’ crashed into a private car carrying the victims in Narayanganj’s Dariyakandi area on Friday.
The deceased was identified as twenty-year-old Mahima, a third-year student in the English department of East West University while identities of the injured could not be known immediately, said Nabir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kanchpur Highway Police Station.
In Sirajganj, two people were killed when an unidentified truck hit their pickup van on the Hatikumrul-Banparra highway in Tarash upazila Friday early.
The deceased have been identified as pickup van driver Kiron Mridha, 28, son of late Abdul Karim of Duttakanai village in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore district, and his assistant Jahangir Alam, 47, a resident of Sirajganj municipality.
Md Lutfur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hatikumrul highway police station, said the accident happened at around 7: am when the unidentified truck crashed into the pickup van that got stranded on the highway after it had gone out of order.
The accident left the duo dead on the spot; he said adding that the victims were repairing the vehicle during the accident, said the OC.
In Cumilla, a former headmaster of a government primary school was killed when a speedy motorcycle hit him while crossing road in Aungaura area on the Gouripur-Homna regional in Daudkandi upazila road at noon.
The deceased was identified as Md Jahirul Hoque, 82, former headmaster of Gouripur Government Primary School and also a resident of Aungaura village.
In Pabna, three motorcycle riders were killed in a head-on collision between their motorbike and a pickup van at Nagardemra of Sathia upazila in the district on Friday afternoon.
The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately, said Asif Mohammad Siddikul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sathia police station.
The accident occurred at around 5:30 pm when the vehicles collided head-on at Chhoto Pathaihat Gorostan area in the upazila, he added.
Mentionable, At least 2,329 people, including 291 women and 381 children, were killed and 4,361 others injured in 2,159 road accidents across the country in the first half of the current year, says a new report by the Road Safety Foundation.
The road accidents took place on highways, national, inter-district and regional roads between January 1 and June 30 across the country.
Biswajit Das murder case: Fugitive convict held in Bogura
Police on Friday arrested a fugitive convict who had been on the run since his conviction in the 2012 Biswajit Das murder case.
Alauddin, 35, who was sentenced to life in jail in the case in 2013, was nabbed from his parents-in-law’s house in the Mokamtola of Shibganj upazila in Bogura.

Acting on a tip-off, a team conducted a raid in the area and arrested Alauddin in the short hours of Friday, said Bogura District Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ali Haider Chowdhury.
On December 9, 2012, tailoring shop employee Biswajit was chopped to death by some BCL activists near Bahadur Shah Park in Old Dhaka during the BNP-led alliance's countrywide road blockade programme.
On December 18, 2013, a tribunal sentenced eight BCL activists to death and 13 others, including Alauddin, to life imprisonment in the Biswajit killing case.
On August 6, 2017, the High Court upheld the death sentences of Rafiqul Islam Shakil and Rajon Talukder and commuted the capital punishment of four other convicts — Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, Emdadul Haque Emdad, GM Rasheduzzaman Shawon and Mir Nurul Alam Liman — to life term.
College student run over by bus in Bogura
A 19-year-old college student was crushed to death by a speeding bus when he fell off his bike after being hit by an ambulance on the busy Dhaka-Bogura highway in Bogura on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Sakib Hasan, a student of Institute of Information Technology Bogra (IITB) and son of Rafiqul Islam.
The accident occurred when the Dhaka-bound ambulance from Bogura hit Sakib's bike near the Noymile Bus Stand area in Shahjahanpur upazila.

"The deceased was riding the bike, while his friend Sunny Ahmed was riding pillion. Both of them fell off the bike in the impact. But before Sakib could get up, he was run over by the commuter bus," said AKM Baniul Alam, in-charge of Sherpur Highway Police.
"We have seized the bus and sent the body to the local hospital morgue," he added.
Man's decomposed body recovered in Bogura
Police recovered the half-decomposed body of a man from a canal in Shajahanpur upazila on Friday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known yet, said Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Shajahanpur Police Station.
Locals spotted the body floating on the canal near the Jalshuka Khaura Bridge around 12pm and informed police.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, added the OC.
