Jubo Dal leader hacked dead in Jashore
A Jubo Dal leader was hacked to death allegedly by some miscreants in Jashore town Tuesday noon, said police.
The deceased was Badiuzzaman Dhani, 42, senior vice president of Jashore District Jubo Dal.

Some miscreants hacked Dhani indiscriminately at Chopdar Para in Shankarpur around 12pm and fled the scene, leaving him seriously injured, said Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali police station.
Later, he was rushed to Jashore General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, he added.
No one has been arrested in this connection yet, said the OC.
37-year-old trader found dead in Jashore
A 37-year-old trader was found dead with a piece of cloth stuffed into his mouth, near a railway track in Jashore on Friday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Lablu, the son of Abdul Mannan of the Kholadanga Colony Para area.
His body was found adjacent to Kholadanga railway track in Arabpur union around 11am, said Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station.

Lablu’s father said they had found the body after they started searching for him as he did not return home on Thursday night.
OC Tajul said the body was sent for an autopsy. "Efforts are on to identify and nab the culprits," he said.
Road accidents claim 7 lives in 3 districts
At least seven people were killed and two injured in three road accidents in Keraniganj, Jashore Sadar, and Dinajpur Friday, according to police.
In Dhaka's Keraniganj, five people were killed and another injured as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided with a lorry at Teghoria.
The deceased were identified as CNG driver Tamal, 17, and his passengers Zunayed Hossain, 22, Nayeem Hossain Fahim, 21, and Samad, 20. However, the identity of another deceased could not be ascertained immediately.
The accident occurred when five friends, workers of a factory in the Hasanabad area, were on their way to visit the Padma Bridge on an auto-rickshaw, Mohammad Shah, officer-in-charge of Hasara Police Station, said.
In Jashore Sadar upazila, a 22-year-old assistant of a truck driver was killed after their vehicle fell into a roadside ditch in Shyamnagar. The deceased Munna was from the upazila.
The accident occurred as the driver of the brick-laden truck lost control of his vehicle near, which overturned and pinned Munna underneath, Assistant Sub-Inspector Munir Hossain, in-charge of Sajiali Police Outpost, said.
In Dinajpur, a 32-year-old woman was killed, and her husband injured after a tractor-trolley hit their motorcycle.
The deceased was identified as Shamim Akhter Panna from Kabirajpara, Dinajpur Sadar, Abdul Jalil, sub-inspector of Pulhat Police Outpost, said. "The paddy-laden tractor-trolley crashed into the motorcycle, leaving the woman dead on the spot and her husband injured."

6 held with gold bars worth Tk 13.58 cr in Jashore
Six people were arrested along with 135 gold bars worth Tk 13.58 crore from Benapole border area in Jashore early Wednesday.
The arrestees are Zahidul Islam, Nazmul Hossain, Arif Miaji, Shahjalal, Abu Hayat Jonny and Rabiul Islam Rabbi.

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)seized the gold bars weighing 16 kgs from a private car used for smuggling, said a media release of BGB.
The arrestees were trying to smuggle the gold bars from Dhaka to India, said Jashore 49 BGB Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Shahed Minhaj Siddiqui at a press briefing.
Teen inmate of Jashore Child Development Centre dies
An inmate of Jashore Child Development Centre(CDC) has died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the district, said officials on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Siraj Islam, 16, son of Abdul Jalil of Nilphamari district.
Siraj was sent to the Child Development Center on March 15 this year in a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, said Manjurul Hasan, assistant director of CDC.

He was admitted to Jashore General Hospital on May 28 with fever and breathing problem after contacting his family.
Siraj died at the hospital this morning, Manjurul said.
Ahmed Tareq Shams, a physician of the hospital, said Siraj was suffering from fever, breathing problem, anemia and jaundice.
Rubel Hawlader, social service officer at the hospital, said the body was handed over to his parents.
Drum containing skeleton excavated from construction site in Jashore
Police recovered a human skeleton inside a drum from a construction site in Jashore city on Monday.
The skeleton was found at Bajlur Rahman’s land at Kazi Para Niribli area in the city, said Tajul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali police station.
Two of the construction workers, Nurnab and Sattar, said they found the drum during piling work and informed the owner of the plot Bazlur Rahman as there was a foul smell coming from it.

Bazlur, who hails from Benapole district. informed the police.
Bazlur said he bought the land some two and a half years ago from its former owner, one Motaleb from Kasba upazila.
“Just recently I started building a residential home on this land,” he said.
OC Tajul Islam said they suspect the skeleton is years old and will send it for an autopsy for identification.
Man hacked dead in Jashore
A 33-year-old man has been hacked to death allegedly by miscreants following an altercation at Najir Shankarpur in Jashore town, locals said.
The deceased was identified as Afzal Hossain, a tea stall keeper of the area.

Locals said 14-15 men, aides of Sujan alias Tera Sujan, stabbed Afzal from back at the Najir Shankarpur area around 8am on Sunday following an altercation between Sujan and Afzal a few days ago, leaving him seriously wounded.
When the locals came to resist the bid, they exploded two bombs and fled immediately, witnesses said.
Afzal was later rushed to Jashore General Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

There are several cases against Sujan who was released from jail around a month ago, said Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali police station.
“Drives are underway in the area to nab the killers,” said the OC.
Shrimps inflated with jelly seized in Jashore
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Thursday confiscated two metric tonnes of shrimps injected with a jelly-like substance to artificially increase their weight from Bahadurpur in Jashore city.
Acting on a tip-off, Rab conducted the drive at night and seized three trucks with shrimps worth Tk 15 lakhs through the mobile court with the help of the Department of Fisheries, Khulna.
The mobile court also fined Tk 2.5 lakhs to the owners of the tainted shrimps.
Eyewitness Habibur Rahman, who is also a local resident, said, “For the first time in my life, I have seen such an incident. We are having poison provided by dishonest businessmen. The government should take stern action against these unscrupulous traders.”

M Naziur Rahman, company commander of RAB-6, Jashore, said, “We had information that a shipment of shrimp loaded on the three trucks injected with a jelly-like substance, is going to Dhaka’s Abdullahpur and Kawranbazar wholesale markets from Phultola Shahapur under Dumuria upazila of Khulna. When the trucks reached Bahadurpur of Jashore-Magura road, we informed the Department of Fisheries and confiscated the shrimps.”
Liptan Sardar, fisheries inspection and quality control officer of the Department of Fisheries, said some dishonest traders have been using jelly-like substances to artificially increase the weight of shrimps. It is a crime. We are working to stop this misdeed.”
Confiscated shrimps have been destroyed in presence of the law enforcers, he said.
Liptan said a section of traders is pushing silicone gel into the body of shrimps which is harmful to the human body. Silicone gel damages the kidneys and eyes of the human body. In a word, it is a poison and kills people silently.
Dishonest traders use 250gm silicone gel in one Kg shrimp, added the official.
1 held with 124 gold bars worth Tk 10 cr in Jashore
BGB members have held a man along with 14.45 kg gold worth Tk 10.11 crore from Chaugachha border area in Jashore.
The man has been named as Md. Shah Alam, 35, a resident Kabilpur in Chougachha, said a BGB media release.
Lt. Col. Shahed Minhaj Siddiqui, commander of BGB's Jashore Battalion said, on a tip-off they managed to nab the alleged smuggler who disguised as a farmer along the border on Friday morning.

The BGB team recovered 124 gold bars of 14.45 kg worth Tk 10.11 crore, mobile phone and seized a motorcycle from the man, he said.
During primary questioning, the man admitted that he was trying to smuggle the gold bars to India, said the release.
Man killed ‘by nephew’ over land dispute in Jashore
A sexagenarian man was beaten to death allegedly by his nephew over land dispute at Nowapara union in Sadar upazila of Jashore on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman, of Arpara village of the union.

Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jashore Kotwali Police Station, said Abdur Rahman locked into an altercation with his nephews over a piece of disputed land in the afternoon.
At one stage, his nephew Bablu hit him on his head, leaving him severely injured.
Later, he was rushed to Jashore General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the evening.

The body was kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Legal steps will be taken in this regard, said the OC.
