SUST students ‘fall sick’ on 2nd day of hunger strike; one hospitalised
Twenty-four students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), who went on a hunger strike unto death on Wednesday demanding their Vice-Chancellor’s resignation, reportedly fell sick on Thursday with one of them being hospitalised.
Among them, Kajal Das was taken to a hospital in Sylhet city around 1:30 pm as he fell seriously sick.
The agitating students vowed not to break their fast until the VC steps down.
Besides, a delegation of teachers came to the students around 8:45 pm on Wednesday and requested them to break their fast.

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar hospitalised with Covid
Legendary Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar has been hospitalised in the western city of Mumbai after testing positive for Covid-19.
The 92-year-old 'Queen of Melody' was rushed to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the premier Breach Candy Hospital after her RT-PCR test result came positive, her niece Rachana told the local media on Tuesday.
"She is mild Covid positive. Considering her age, doctors advised us that she should be in the ICU because she requires constant care. She will be fine. But it's going to take a while because of her age," Rachana said.

Considered one of the leading and most respected playback singers in India, Lata has recorded songs in over a thousand Hindi films and has sung songs in over 35 Indian languages and foreign languages.
In fact, she began her singing career at the age of 13, after her father's demise in 1942. Seven years later, Lata hogged limelight for her first major hit song 'Aayega Aanewaala' in a Bollywood movie.

Dengue: 3 more patients hospitalised in 24 hrs
Three more dengue patients have been hospitalised in Dhaka in 24 hours till Monday morning, health authorities said.
No new death was reported during this period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Two of the new patients are undergoing treatment at the hospitals in Dhaka while another is admitted at a hospital outside the division.

A total of 105 dengue patients -- 95 in Dhaka division alone, four in Mymensingh, two each in Chattogram and Khulna, and one each in Rajshahi and Barishal divisions -- have died so far since January 2021.
Some 42 dengue patients are receiving treatment in the country as of Monday
Of them, 26 are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while remaining 16 at hospitals outside Dhaka.

This year, some 74 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue so far and 32 dengue patients have left hospital after recovery, said the DGHS.

Among the new patients, two are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka and the two other cases have been reported from outside the division.
Some 48 patients who were diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country as of Wednesday.

Of them, 30 are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while remaining 18 were listed outside Dhaka.
This year, some 52 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with Dengue so far and four of them left hospital after recovery, said the DGHS.

Experts attribute the unusually high dengue cases during the dry season, mainly in Dhaka, to the prolonged rainy season, sporadic rainfall, and high humidity and temperature, Aedes mosquitoes' reproductive and behavioural changes caused by climate change and lack of people’s awareness and poor controlling measures by the two city corporations of the capital.
They also said the climate conditions of Bangladesh are becoming more favourable for the Aedes mosquitos to prevail in all seasons with high or low intensity mainly for the increase in temperature and breeding sources.

Although dengue cases were supposed to drop ahead of winter, the country has been recording more than 100 dengue cases per day over the last few weeks.
On Sunday 110 people were hospitalised with dengue fever.

In September, the country recorded the highest number of 7,841 dengue cases of the current year with 23 deaths.
In October, the number of dengue cases came down to 5,604 with 22 deaths recorded.
