Dengue cases keep rising: 142 more hospitalized in 24 hrs
Bangladesh reported hospitalisation of 142 new dengue patients in 24 hours until Saturday morning.
Although dengue cases were supposed to drop ahead of winter, the country has been recording more than 100 dengue cases per day over the last few weeks.
Seventy two people were hospitalised with dengue fever on Friday.
The number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease remained unchanged at 98 in the current year as no fresh death was reported during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the deceased, 90 people died in Dhaka division alone, two each in Chattogram, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions and one each in Rajshahi and Barishal divisions.
Among the new patients, 104 are undergoing treatment in hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 38 cases have been reported from outside the division.
Some 543 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country as of Saturday.
Of them, 436 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 107 were listed outside Dhaka.

Since January, some 26,201 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue in the country. So far, 25, 586 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said DGHS.
In September, the country recorded the highest number of 7,841 dengue cases of the current year with 23 deaths.
In October, the number of dengue cases came down to 5,604 with 22 deaths recorded.
BNP leader Mirza Abbas hospitalised
BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas was admitted to a city hospital early Wednesday with acute chest pain.
“Sir (Abbas) was taken to Evercare Hospital as he suddenly complained of chest pain,” said his personal assistant Asif Sohan.
BNP’s health affairs secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam said Abbas, a former mayor of undivided Dhaka city and an ex-minister in Khaleda Zia's last cabinet, was admitted to the hospital around 1:30am and then underwent some necessary medical tests.

He said the BNP leader has been receiving treatment at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital under cardiologist Shabuddin Talukder.
“His condition is now relatively better. He has been kept asleep,” Rafiqul said.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has also been receiving treatment at the CCU of the hospital since Saturday.

Bangladesh reported 151 new patients being hospitalized with dengue fever in 24 hours till Monday morning.
With no fresh death during the period, the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease this year remained unchanged at 95, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of them 87 people died in Dhaka division alone, two each in Chattogram, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions and one each in Rajshahi and Barishal divisions.

Among the new patients, 103 were undergoing treatment in hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 48 cases were reported from outside the division.
Some 662 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country as of Monday.
Of them, 523 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 139 were listed outside Dhaka.
Since January, some 24,795 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue in the country. So far, 24,039 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said DGHS.
In September, the country recorded the highest number of 7,841 dengue cases of the current year with 23 deaths.
In October, the number of dengue cases came down to 5,604 with 22 deaths recorded.

Correlation with climate change
A World Bank (WB) report released last week has found a wider link between the shifting climate conditions and the increase in dengue and some other diseases in Bangladesh.
It says with falling humidity levels, rising temperatures and increasing rainfall caused by climate change, the risk of dengue spread can be higher in the country, mainly in Dhaka and Chttogram cities, in the future.
Bangladesh has experienced a 0.5° Celsius increase in average temperature between 1976 and 2019 and is slowly losing the variations between seasons, the report added.
Summers are becoming hotter and longer while winters are warmer, and the monsoon seasons are being extended from February to October.
The report also predicted that average temperatures across Bangladesh will rise by 1.4° Celsius by 2050 while annual rainfall is likely to increase by 74 millimetres by 2040-2059.

With the fresh death, the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease this year increased to 95, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of them 87 people died in Dhaka division alone, two each in Chattogram, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions and one each in Rajshahi and Barishal divisions.

The new dengue death was reported in Dhaka division.
Among the new patients, 122 were undergoing treatment in hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 35 cases were reported from outside the division.
Some 758 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country as of Thursday.
Of them, 601 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 157 were listed outside Dhaka.

Among the new patients, 109 were undergoing treatment in hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 33 cases were reported from outside the division.
Some 709 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country as of Tuesday.
Of them, 559 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 150 were listed outside Dhaka.
Since January, some 23,943 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue in the country. So far, 23,142 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said DGHS.

Dengue: One more dies, 170 hospitalised
One more died and 170 patients were hospitalized with dengue fever across the country in 24 hours till Thursday morning.
The number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease this year stood at 84 with the latest death, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the new patients, 139 were undergoing treatment in Dhaka hospitals while the remaining 31 cases were reported from outside the division.

Of the deceased, 78 people died in Dhaka division alone, two each in Chattogram and Khulna divisions and one each in Rajshahi and Mymensingh division.
Some 792 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country as of Thursday morning.
Of them, 624 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 168 were listed outside Dhaka.
Since January, some 22,007 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue in the country.

So far, 21,131 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said DGHS.

No death from Dengue was reported in 24 hours till Wednesday morning but 307 more patients were hospitalised, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).Among the new patients, 244 were undergoing hospital treatment in Dhaka while the remaining 63 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.Some 1,291 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Wednesday morning.Of them, 1,092 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 199 were listed outside Dhaka.The death toll from the mosquito-borne disease remained unchanged at 57.Among the deceased, 53 died in Dhaka city alone, two in Chattogram division, one in Khulna and one in Rajshahi.

Some 14,831 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January.So far, 13,483 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said the DGHS.The number of dengue patients hospitalized in a single day was the highest with 343 patients on September 7.In the month of August the country recorded the highest number of 7,698 dengue cases of the current year.

Ziauddin Bablu hospitalised with Covid infections
Jatiya Party Secretary General Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu has been admitted to a city hospital with Covid-19 infections.
He was admitted to Labaid Specialised Hospital in the capital’s Dhanmondi area on Monday evening, Jatiya Party chairman's deputy press secretary Khandaker Deloar Jalali told UNB on Tuesday.
He said Bablu underwent Covid test the same day and the result came out positive.
Jalali, however, said the physical condition of the Jatiya Party leader is good as there is no major complication.
He said their party chairman, GM Quader, urged all to pray for the speedy recovery of Bablu.
Party sources said Bablu recently took part in electioneering in favour of the Jatiya Party candidate in Sylhet-3 by-election held on September 4.
He fell ill after his return to Dhaka from Sylhet and then underwent the Covid test.
Leading Indian singer Kabir Suman hospitalised
Leading Indian guitarist, poet and singer Kabir Suman, who is married to popular Bangladeshi singer Sabina Yasmin, has been hospitalised in the eastern city of Kolkata with symptoms of Covid.
The 72-year-old former lawmaker of West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress party was rushed to the premier government-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata late Sunday night after he complained of breathlessness.
"Kabir Suman was admitted to the hospital late last night with fever and shortness of breath. At the time of admission, his oxygen level was 90," Dr Soumitra Ghosh of SSKM Hospital, told the local media.
"We are waiting for his Covid test report," said Dr Ghosh, the head of the hospital's medicine department.
Originally a Hindu, the musician changed his name from Suman Chattopadhyay to Kabir Suman when he converted to Islam in protest against the killing of a Christian missionary by a Hindu fundamentalist in the eastern state of Odisha some 22 years ago.
A pioneer of alternative Bengali music, Kabir Suman shot to fame in the 1990s with popular albums such as Tomake Chai (I Want You) and Boshe Anko (Sit-and-Draw). All the songs in his albums were written, composed and sung by him.
Suman, who worked as a journalist in Nicaragua during the Sandinista revolution, also served as a Trinamool Congress MP from 2009 to 2014. Currently, he shares his political views via his own website.
