Kamrul, Emon added to Bangladesh T20 squad
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) called uncapped pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi and left-handed uncapped opener Parvez Hossain Emon to the T20 squad for the last T20I of the ongoing Pakistan series.
The Bangladesh team management asked opener Saif Hassan to leave the team hotel and join the Test team in Chattogram where a few Test cricketers are gearing for the two-Test series against Pakistan.
Emon was expected to get a call to the same squad at the beginning of the series but he was denied and Saif got a call despite his lean show in the format.
Saif also got his maiden T20I cap in the first match of the series but failed to impress. In two matches, he scored only one run with a golden duck.

National Cricket League to be more competitive, hopes Habibul
Former Bangladesh captain and the current member of the selection panel of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Habibul Bashar, believes this year’s National Cricket League (NCL) will be more competitive.
This year’s NCL, the most prestigious First-class event in Bangladesh, is scheduled to begin on October 17.

A total of eight teams will participate in the event which will be played in four fields in two different venues in Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar.
Bangladesh will play a few Test series after the T20 World Cup which is set to take place next month in Oman and the UAE. Habibul believes the NCL will help the players to prepare well for the Tests coming later this season.
“We are taking much time before this year’s NCL so that the teams can prepare well,” Habibul told the reporters on Sunday.
“Usually teams get only a few days before a season of NCL takes the field. But this time around, we are taking a little more time before the event gets started.”
The selection panel has already announced squads including 20-22 players. All the players are currently going through a fitness training programme. The squad will be shortened to 16 members after a fitness test before the NCL starts.

“The main squads will begin their preparation on October 5. Instead of 14, a squad will have a total of 16 players this time so that we can replace players if anyone tests positive for Covid-19. And the wickets are also fresh now. I believe this year’s NCL will be more competitive,” Habibul added.
This year’s NCL had a start in March, but due to the Covid-19 restriction the event was cancelled after the two rounds of games.
“We will have a good chance to prepare ourselves (playing in NCL) well ahead of the next cycle of Test championship,” Habibul added. “We failed to have a good start in the previous season, and we could not comeback well. We are eager to do well this time. It’s an advantage for us that we can start at home against Pakistan. They are a good team, but the time has come for us to make a comeback.”

He had also started bowling with 50% effort, but that did not work well for him as the pain resurfaced which has forced him to sit out for more than five months.
“He has been under our observation for a long time,” Debashis Chowdhury, the chief physician of BCB, told the reporters on Thursday.
“We have examined him in many ways on different occasions, but we couldn’t find any big problem. We think he requires a biomechanical assessment to find out his problem.”
There is no biomechanical assessment facility in Bangladesh and so the pacer needs to go abroad to find one, said Debashis.
“We are trying to send him somewhere we can get a biomechanical assessment facility. But there are some restrictions put in place due to the Covid-19 situation around the globe. We have been in constraint contacts with some countries. I think it would be possible to send him for assessment within the next two-three weeks,” Debashis added.

Bangladesh announces 15-member squad for T20 World Cup
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The tournament is slated to take place from October 17 to November 15 in Oman and the UAE.
Along with the 15-member squad, two additional players will tour with the team -- Rubel Hossain and leg-spinner Aminul Islam Biplob.
"We have been doing well in T20Is for a while now. We hope we can do well in the World Cup," Minhajul Abedin, the chief selector of BCB, told the media on Thursday.

Bangladesh are, however, set to miss the services of veteran opener Tamim Iqbal as he had earlier withdrawn from the mega tournament citing lack of preparations.
Minhajul said the team would miss him, but it was his decision. "He is one of our best cricketers in every format,” Minhajul said about Tamim. “But it’s unfortunate that he decided to not play the World Cup. We hope that he will return to the team when he is fit and prepare to play for the Tigers.”
In Tamim's absence, three players are in the fray for Bangladesh’s opening slots -- Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Naim. According to Minhajul, the T20 World Cup came as a big chance for them to prove their mettle.
Bangladesh included Shamim Hossain in the World Cup squad. Shamim was part of Bangladesh’s U-19 team that won the World Cup in 2020.
“He has been part of the national team since the Zimbabwe series. He played well for the Bangladesh U-19 team. We believe the style he follows will help him do well in the T20 format,” Minhajul told the media.
While most of the other teams included at least one leg-spinner in their main squad, Bangladesh added Aminul as a standby player. The chief selector said the spinner was out of the squad for a long time due to illness, and they are not including Aminul in their initial plan. "However, Aminul will be with the team for keeping an eye on the young spinner’s future."
Bangladesh didn’t include the experienced pacer Rubel in the main squad. He will also be a standby player.

“It’s a very important tournament for all teams and especially for our team. We are playing a few series before the T20 World Cup and if we can do well, get a bit of confidence, try to win those series before the World Cup starts, it will be a big boost for our team,” Bangladesh T20 captain Mahmudullah said.
“Our strength has been our all-rounders and our bowling department. Having said that, our batting is also very good and we have a good balance. We have five or six all-rounders, who can bat and bowl. Our fast bowlers are doing an incredible job at the moment. Our spinners are our strength as well. If they can put up their hand in a few matches, hopefully, we will have some good results,” Mahmudullah added.
Mahmudullah also said that Shakib Al Hasan has always been the number one player of the Bangladesh team, and Mushfqiur Rahim and Mustafizur Rahman are also valuable enough. Mahmudullah hopes that Nurul Hasan Sohan, Afif Hossain and Shamim Hossain also have the ability to do well, and all of them are keen to prove their mettle.

Bangladesh are currently waiting for a five-match T20 series against New Zealand starting from September 1. The Blackcaps are scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh by August 24.
Before this series, Bangladesh took on Australia and won the five-match T20I series 4-1. It was Bangladesh’s first series win over Australia in any format of international cricket.
When Aussie coach chided staffer for posting Bangladesh's celebrations online
The top management of the Australian cricket team reportedly had heated arguments with a Cricket Australia website staffer over the posting of a video on Bangladesh's celebrations in the wake of a series win by the Tigers against the visitors.
Bangladesh had never won a series against Australia in any format of the game before the T20I matches that took place earlier this month. Bangladesh won the five-match T20I series 4-1. Australia managed to win only one game in the series, thanks to a 30-run over by Shakib Al Hasan, in which Dan Christian had smashed five sixes.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Australian cricket coach Justin Langer and team manager Gavin Dovey were involved in the animated argument. The New South Wales-based media outlet, however, did not reveal the name of the staffer.
The video is still on the CA website, which shows the celebrations of the Bangladeshi cricket team post their third game win against Australia. That game had confirmed the series win for the Tigers.
In the video, the Bangladesh cricketers can be seen celebrating in the field right after Mahedi Hasan defended 22 in the last over of the third T20I. The video also captured Nazmul Hasan, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president, along with some directors, applauding the team on the win.
In the video, some Bangladeshi players can also be heard singing “We Shall Overcome”, a song adopted as the unofficial team anthem years ago, in the dressing room.

According to the SMH report, the incident took place at the team hotel, following the series-clinching third game. The incident was witnessed by at least a dozen people and left some players taken aback and with a sense of unease about what took place.
The report also said the matter was first raised by Dovey. He told the staffer that it’s not appropriate to post a Bangladesh celebration video on a website operated by CA. But the staffer stood his ground over the issue. Subsequently, Langer aimed at the staffer as well.
Dovey has already talked about it publicly. He was quoted by SMH as saying, “A healthy team environment includes the ability to have honest and frank discussions, whether it be between players, support staff or others within the team environment, which was the case here.”

“There was a difference of opinion and we agreed to disagree on a particular matter. In hindsight, it was one of those instances which should have taken place in private. I take full ownership of that."
Australia played the five-match series against Bangladesh in a span of seven days, following a three-day quarantine after arriving in Dhaka. They lost another five-match T20I series 4-1 against the West Indies, which took place right before their Bangladesh tour.
