205 BNP leaders, activists sued over crude bomb blasts in Barishal
Police have filed a case against 55 named and 150 more unnamed BNP leaders and activists on Friday over crude bomb blasts at a school ground in Barishal's Babuganj upazila.
Sub-Inspector of Babuganj Police Station Abdul Hannan filed the case under the Explosive Substances Act early Friday, Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station, said.

"They accused tried to create panic among people through sabotage and subversive activities. However, their identities cannot be disclosed right now due to an investigation," he added.
Police have not made any arrests over the crude bomb blasts but a special operation is being conducted to arrest those involved in it, Mahbubur said.
On Thursday night, two crude bombs exploded at Ishwar Narayan Secondary School ground in Babuganj. Police claimed they later seized three more unexploded crude bombs from the spot.

However, Abul Kalam Shahin, member secretary of the South Barishal BNP, said the party was not involved in the incident and the blasts were a ploy of the administration to foil the BNP's December 10 rally in Dhaka.

Police filed four cases at Ramna, Shahjahanpur, Motijheel and Paltan police stations against 720 BNP activists and over 2400 unnamed people in connection with Wednesday’s clash with BNP that left one person dead and many injured.
Faruq Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police revealed the information at a press briefing in the capital’s DMP Media Centre on Thursday.
So far 500 people have been arrested in this regard, he said.
Of the BNP men, 450 were accused in the case filed at Nayapaltan police station, 20 in Motijheel police station case and seven in Shahjahanpur police station case.

Among 42 police members,16 are under treatment at Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital and another at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said Deputy Commissioner Faruq Hossain.
He said police filed a case against 473 BNP activists and 15,00-2,000 anonymous people at Paltan police station on charges of assault on police and under the Explosives Substances Act over the Wednesday’s incident.
They were accused of keeping explosive materials at the BNP party office, attacking police and sabotage.
After the clash, 473 BNP leaders and activists were arrested from the party’s central office and surrounding areas who were named in this case.
Md Sahidul Osman Masum, Sub Inspector and in-charge of Siddheswari police outpost under Ramna model police station filed a case against 167 leaders and activists of BNP and its assciate bodies and many unnamed ones under the penal code and the Explosive Substances Act (Amendment 2002 on Thursday.
Rawnaqul Islam Srabon, president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal central committee, Fazlur Rahman Khokon, former president of JCD central committee, and Md Saiful, organizational secretary of Jubo Dal Ramna committee are among the accused in this case.
Besides, Rafiqul Islam, Sub-Inspector of Shahjahanpur police station filed a case against 52 BNP activists and 200 to 250 anonymous people under different sections of the Penal Code and the Explosive Substances Act (Amendment 2002).
Nazrul Islam Shikdar, sub-inspector of Motijheel Police Station filed a case against 28 BNP activists and leaders at Motijeel Police station under the Explosive Substances Act.
Police fired teargas and used batons during a clash with BNP activists at Nayapalton on Wednesday, leaving a man dead and several others injured on Wednesday.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday claimed that two leaders of their party’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal were killed and over 100 others were injured in an attack by police when bullets were fired in front of their party’s Nayapaltan central office.
However, police said they detained over 300 leaders and activists of the BNP from the party's Nayapaltan headquarters after the clash.
The detained leaders included BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Publication Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie.
JCD leader’s death in B’baria clash: SP, ASP among 8 sued
A case was filed on Wednesday against eight police officials over the death of a Jatiyatabadi Chattra Dal leader in a clash between police and activists of BNP and its associate bodies in Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria.
Md Rahmat Ullah, father of deceased Nayan Miah, filed the case with the court of District Senior Magistrate (Bancharampur) naming eight police officials and eight to ten unnamed ones.
The accused are- Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Anisur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mozammel Hossain Reza, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bancharampur Police Station Noore Alam, Police Inspector (Investigation) Tarun Kanti Dey, Police Inspector Afzal Hossain Khan, Sub-Inspector (SI) Bikiran Chakma, constables Bishwajit Chandra Das and Shafikul Islam.

According to the case, the prime accused in the case constables Bishwajit Chandra Das and Shafiqul Islam opened fire on the leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies during the clash over distributing leaflets for the rally in Cumilla at Molla Bari area of the upazila on November 19.
Nayan, vice president of Sonarampur union parishad unit JCD, fell down after being hit by a bullet and several others also sustained injuries in the attack.
He was first rushed to Bancharampur Upazila Health Complex. Later he was shifted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where physicians pronounced him dead around 7:30pm.
The court will pass an order examining the case, said plaintiff’s counsel MA Mannan.
98 JCD activists sued over attack on police in Chapainawabganj
A case has been filed against 98 leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) for launching an attack on police with crude bombs during a rally in Nachol upazila of Chapainawabganj.
Mintu Rahman, Officer In-charge (OC) of Nachol Police Station said sub-inspector Akbar Ali filed the case against 18 named and 70-80 unnamed people on Sunday night.
“We’re currently conducting drives to arrest the accused,” Mintu said.
According to police, some JCD men organised a rally on the premises of Oxford Academy in Sreerampur area under the district’s Nachol Sadar Upazila on Sunday afternoon without any permission.

Upon receiving the information, police went to the spot and tried to disperse them, which resulted in a heated argument and a chase and counter-chase between them, he said.
The JCD men threw crude bombs on us during rally, which injured two policemen and five more crude bombs were recovered from the spot, Mintu added.
6 arrested over ex-BCL leader Biplab’s death
Police have arrested six staff of a launch from Keraniganj area of the capital over the death of former BCL leader Duranta Biplab, whose body was found in the Buriganga river on November 12.
The arrestees were Hafez Md Saidur Rahman, 38, Alamin, 35, Md Masud Rana, 38, Emon Hossain, 23, Md Salman, 21, and Ibrahim Khalil, 29. They all are drivers and technical persons of ‘Morning Sun’ launch.
Tipped off, the Detective Brunch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested them after conducting drive in Keraniganj on Saturday, said Deputy Commissioner (DB-Lalbagh Division) of DMP Mashiur Rahman.

Biplab, 51, ex-general secretary of BCL Jahangirnagar University unit and also a former member of the Agriculture and Cooperative Sub-Committee of the Central Awami League, went missing while going to Mohammadpur from Keraniganj to meet his mother on November 7.
The body of was fished out from the Buriganga river in Jajira area of South Keraniganj on November 10.

25 BNP activists sued over recovery of crude bombs in Natore
Two cases were filed against 25 BNP activists in connection with the recovery of five crude bombs and two bomb-like objects from beside the party office early Sunday.
Lalpur police station’s sub-inspector Himadri Haldar and local Jubo League activist Shariful Newaz filed the cases under the Explosive Substances Act against the BNP men including municipality unit BNP convener Nazrul Islam Mollah.
According to the cases’ statements, miscreants hurled crude bombs targeting Jubo League men from in front of the BNP office around 8.45pm on Saturday.
Sharif Al Rajib, additional superintendent of police (Lalpur circle) of the district, said they later recovered five crude bombs and two bomb-like objects from beside the office. Later police sealed the office.

Earlier on November 15 night, some activists of ruling Awami League allegedly vandalised the party office when a meeting led by the accused Nazrul Islam was being held there.
Monowaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Lalpur police station, said no one has yet been arrested in this connection.
CTTC files DSA case against Pinaki Bhattacharya for ‘tarnishing image of the state’
Pinaki Bhattacharya and two others have been sued under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for “tarnishing the image of the state through conspiracy”.
The other two accused are Mofizur Rahman and Mushfiqul Fazal Ansary. Mofizur is now behind bars and Mushfiqul is on the run.
Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) filed the case against them at Ramna Police Station on November 15.
Deputy Commissioner of DMP's media wing Md Faruque Hossain said: "Pinaki Bhattacharya is spreading propaganda against the country and the state from France."
"We are trying to find his address. If his details can be found, we will seek Interpol's assistance to bring him back to Bangladesh for trial."
According to the case statement, CTTC noticed a Facebook post by Pinaki on October 14 through which "misinformation about police was spread on social media."
On October 15, police arrested Mofizur from his Pallabi residence over the Facebook post and seized his phones.
Police said, through his fake Facebook account, Mofizur contacted different people, including Pinaki and Mushfiqul. "Distorted information and a picture of a police raid in Dhaka's Mirpur were sent to Pinaki, Fazal, and others living abroad."

Later, Mofizur was interrogated by CTTC on a two-day remand.
Police said: "We have found that Pinaki responded after Mofizur sent the message to him, so charges were brought against him."
Pinkai, who often posts on social media and appears on YouTube, criticizing the government and the ruling party, has been staying abroad for several years.

6 govt officials sued over not paying money for land acquisition of Bangabandhu Tunnel
A case has been filed against six government officials, including a senior assistant commissioner of the Chattogram district administration, for dilly-dallying to pay money due for land acquisition under the Bangabandhu Tunnel Project.
The case was filed at the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Dev, said the plaintiff’s lawyer Advocate Anamul Hoque.
Taking the allegations into cognisance, the court asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit a report before it after investigating.
The plaintiff is Md Hemayet Hossain, a resident of the port city’s Halishahar area.

On the other hand, the accused are the district administration’s Senior Assistant Commissioner (land acquisition department) and Executive Magistrate Ahsan Murad, land surveyor Mohammad Abdul Mumin, surveyors Mohammad Iman Hossain Gazi, Muktar Hossain, Abu Kawsar Sohel and their office attendant Belayet Hossain Bulu.
According to the case statement, the victim’s grandfather Omda Miah had two families. Of them, there were two each sons and daughters in the first family and four sons in the second family.
four sons of the second family obtained some lands from their grandfather as heirs but the first family’s members could not accept the matter.Meanwhile, the government took the land as acquisition for the Bangabandhu Tunnel through the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram.
Centering the matter, victim Hemayet, a member of the first family, filed a case with a civil court in Chattogram earlier. Subsequently both the groups moved the High Court that ordered to take the money equally.
Following the order, a deal was inked between them over sharing the money on March 13, 2016.
Dodging the first family’s members, the members of the second family kept the money of the land acquisition under the custody of the prime accused.

The victim and others submitted a written complaint seeking money to the executive magistrate Ahsan Murad but they received no response in this regard for a long time.
November 10 this year, the victim along with one Md Fakhrul Islam went to the magistrate’s office and wanted to know about the update of their complaint.At one stage of the altercation, all the accused allegedly harassed the duo physically and abused them verbally.
Sajeeb Wazed testifies before Dhaka court in case over ‘plotting to abduct, kill’ him
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son and her ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy appeared and testified before the court on Sunday, in connection with a case filed over plotting to “abduct and kill” him.
Mohammad Asaduzzaman Nur, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, recorded his statement.
Sajeeb Wazed is the 10th witness in the case.
On March 3, 2015, a case was filed with Paltan Police Station in connection with attempting to abduct and kill Sajeeb Wazed.
Five people were accused in the case. They are – Jaijaidin founding editor Shafik Rehman, the daily Amar Desh acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman, vice-president of BNP's cultural wing Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) Mohammad Ullah Mamun, his son Rizvi Ahmed Caesar and Bangladeshi trader living in the United States Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan.

All of them remained fugitive.
On February 22, 2018, police submitted the charge-sheet against five people, including Shafik Rehman and Mahmudur Rahman, before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
On March 6, 2018, a court issued a warrant for the arrest of four people, including journalist Shafik Rehman, in the case.
On the incident, Sajeeb Wazed on March 8, 2015 wrote on his verified Facebook page: “On Wednesday, March 4th I provided a victim statement in court before the sentencing of Rizve Ahmed Caesar, son of Mohammad Ullah Mamun, Vice-President of BNP’s cultural wing JaSaS.
“Caesar was promised US $40,000 per month and given the first payment of US $30,000 in cash directly from very senior BNP leaders in Bangladesh. I cannot disclose their names because the investigation is ongoing. The BNP had planned to kidnap me and kill me here in the US.

“Again, these are not the actions of a political party. These are the actions of terrorists. This is what you expect from a group that burns innocent women and children alive.”
“Notice, however that the newspapers and our ‘civil society’ who never fail to speak against the Awami League are absolutely silent on this. The BNP can kill and kidnap, yet they will never blame the BNP directly…” he wrote.
“When someone tries to kill me I take it very personally. I intend to pursue those responsible, no matter how high up they may be in the BNP. I will bring them to justice,” the post read.
250 BNP activists sued in Sylhet for vandalising PM, Bangabandhu’s photos
A case has been filed against 250 unnamed BNP activists in connection with the vandalism of Bangabandhu and the Prime Minister's photos following the murder of a leader of the party in Sylhet's Rikabibazar area.
Metropolitan unit Awami League (AL) member Zahid Sarwar Sobuj filed the case at Kotwali police station on Tuesday night, said Mohammad Ali Mahmud, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
Police also detained four people in this connection and sent to jail showing them arrested under section 54 of the Criminal Procedure code, he added.

They are- Ishtiak Ahmed Raju, Badrul Islam Nazrul, Milad ahmed and Rajib Ahmed, all Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists.
The four will be shown arrested in this case now.
“Efforts are on to arrest others involved with the vandalism,” the OC added.

The plaintiff alleged that the photos of Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were vandalised in the Rikabibazar area of the city on November 6 during a protest programme of BNP after the killing of AFM Kamal, former health affairs secretary of Sylhet district unit of the party, in Barobazar area of Sylhet.
