Rajshahi city Jamaat secretay held over vandalism
Police arrested secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Rajshahi metropolitan unit on Friday in a case filed over vandalism.
The arrestee is Imaz Uddin Mandal, absconding accused of a vandalism case filed with Poba police station, said Rajshahi Metropolitan police in a press briefing on Saturday.
He was arrested around 5 pm on Friday from in front of a mosque in Terokhadia area during a drive conducted by a team of Detective Branch of police.
The arrestee and his associates were holding secret meetings to plan anti-state propaganda and vandalism acts, said police.

Legal actions will be taken against the accused, they said.
A total of 35 case have been filed against the accused for terrorist activities, vandalism and conspiring against the government, said police at the briefing.
13 members of fake question leak gang held in Laksmipur
Detectives have arrested 13 members of a gang on a charge of cheating people in the name of providing leaked primary assistant teacher recruitment test question papers in Ramganj upazila of Laksmipur on Friday.
The arrestees are Mahmudul Hossain, his wife Sharmin Akhter, Sumi Akhter, Morsheda Jannat Rebu, Suraiya Akhter, Tania Basar, Tasnim Akhter, Sarmin Akhter, Manzur Hossain, Rahmat Ullah, Parvez Hossain, Zahirul Islam, Jamal Uddin Sabuj.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police arrested them after conducting several drives in the area before starting exams on Friday morning, said AHM Kamruzzaman, superintendent of police in a press briefing on Friday afternoon.
During the drives, the law enforcers also recovered fake question papers with answer sheets, blank checks of different banks, original copies of education certificates from their possessions, the release added.
Legal action will be taken against the detainees, it said.
6 fraud gang members involved in making 144 types of fake certificates held
Detectives have arrested six members of a fraud gang, including a fake vice-chancellor of a university, who were involved in making fake certificates from their office in Paramount Tower in the city’s Malibagh area.
The arrestees were Dr Md Nurul Haque Sarkar alias Sheikhg Gani Sarkar,72, who used to sell fake certificates of Premier University of Technology and his assistant Md Moazzem Hossain,58 and four fake doctors- Dr Md Saidur Rahman alias Najrul,30, Md Mahfuzur Rahman alias Mahfuz, 37, Dr Md Aman Ullah,38, and Debashish Kundu,52.

Accused Nurul Haque along with his family members and others formed the gang which used to make counterfeit certificates of 144 types. They used to sell them without any class and examination, according to a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) press release on Thursday.
The gang had been selling fake certificates of Premiere University of Technology for the last two decades.
To cheat people the gang was using a fake website, attractive ads in different newspapers, social media platforms, computerized photos of the university campus which does not exist, fake order from the Ministry of Home Affairs, counterfeit writ petition to the High Court, said the DMP release.
Wari zonal team of Detective Branch of DMP led by Md Abu Ashraf Siddequi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of police made the arrests during a special drive in the city.

Huge fake certificates, testimonial, transcripts, admit card, seal, bank cheque, leaflets, paper cutting with advertisement of providing certificates, Nabadiganta Diagonostic Center and Doctor’s Chamber’s copy, computer, printer used for making fake certificates were seized during the arrest.
2 farmers’ suicide in Rajshahi: Krishak League leader held
Police arrested a local Krishak League leader from Chabbishnagar in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district in connection with the death of two farmers who allegedly ended their lives for not getting irrigation water for their land.
The arrestee was Shakhawat Hossain, 30, president of no 5 ward unit Krishak League leader and deep tubewell operator of Barind Multipurpose Development Authorities (BMDA) .
Iftekhar Alam, Additional Superintendent of police, said a team of police led by officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station Quamrul Islam conducted a drive in the area around 1 am and arrested him.
On March 24, Rabi Marandi, 32, a Santal community member of Nimghatu village in Godagari upazila, and his cousin Abhinath, 30, consumed poison in front of Shakhawat Hossain.

They took the decision out of anger "as Shakhawat was not giving them a serial number for a long time to get irrigation water supplied to their fields in Iswarpur", according to their family.
Abhinath died around 9pm after reaching home on March 24 while Rabi died two days later at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH).
Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani, director of RMCH, confirmed both the brothers died from consumption of poison.
The Agriculture Ministry has formed a four-member panel to probe the deaths of two farmers.
Stone-pelting injures a train driver in Khulna: 2 teens held
Police detained two teenage boys in Khulna for allegedly throwing stones at a running train and injuring its driver on Friday, police said.
The arrestees are Md Shamimul Hossain Siam,14, from Kamaldia village in Faridpur and Sazzat Sheikh,13, from Kajlia village in Gopalganj. Both of them are students of Hifz class of Jogipal Adarsha Hafezia Madrasa.
The incident occurred at 7:15 am when the Benapole-bound commuter train Betna Express was passing Jogipal Adarsha Hafezia Madrasa under the Khanjahan Ali police station, said Molla Khabir Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Khulna railway police (GRP).
Driver of the train Gazi Maruf, who sustained injuries on face and lips, was forced to break the journey. Railway police were immediately alerted.
Later, the two madrasa students were picked from near the spot. The boys were being questioned about their suspected involvement in the incident, said the OC.

Stone-pelting incidents on moving trains by miscreants are common in Bangladesh, leading to injuries – and sometimes death - of unsuspected passengers and railway staff.
In such an attack a railway employee died in 2018 losing a 40-day battle with severe injuries he had sustained on his head.
Railway authorities have identified at least 20 spots, where stone-throwing occurred, in both eastern and zones.
Fugitive murder case convict held in city after 22 yrs
The Anti-Terrorism Unit of Bangladesh Police arrested a fugitive convict in a murder case from the city’s Khilkhet area early Thursday.
The arrestee was Md Anwar Hossain, 55, of Dinajpur district. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case in 2005.
Tipped off, a team of ATU conducted a drive in Barua Bazar area in Khilkhet around 12:30am, according to a media release of Bangladesh Police.

In 2000, Anwar killed his second wife Alfatun alias Alta Begum and went into hiding. He had been staying in different areas of Dhaka hiding his identity for 22 years.
During primary interrogation, the arrestee confessed to his involvement with the crime, said the release.
Legal steps will be taken in this regard, It added.

Man held for killing wife and son in Gazipur
A 55-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife and teenage son to death in Gazipur, police said on Tuesday.
The arrestee has been identified as Md Mofiz, a rickshaw puller hailing from Rambhadrapur village in Mymensingh.
"He was arrested around 11pm on Monday from a rickshaw garage in the capital's Noyatola Ambagh area in Tejgaon," said Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Gacha police station.

On Sunday, Mofiz allegedly stabbed his wife Rahima Begum (40) and their son Rokon (16) to death in the Kalmeshwar area of Gazipur over a family feud.
He had been absconding since the crime and had even shaved his beard to hide his identity, said OC Ismail.

On Monday afternoon, a murder case was filed at Gacha police station on a complaint from Rahima’s brother Rashedul Islam. "Subsequently, we nabbed him," the OC said.
Panchagarh madrasa teacher held for sodomy
A 33-year-old madrasa teacher in Panchagarh was arrested on Monday for allegedly sodomising his 12-year-old student.
The arrestee has been identified as Yasin Arafat, a resident of Gorgram Majhpara village in Nilphamari district. He was produced in a court that sent him to judicial custody.
Police said Yasin sexually assaulted the boy in his room in the madrasa on March 11. The very next day, the boy returned to his home and narrated his ordeal to his parents.

"His parents had initially approached the madrasa authorities. When the madrasa authorities did not act, his parents and local residents caught the accused and handed him over to us," said Abdul Latif Mia, officer-in-charge of Panchagarh Sadar police station.
The teacher was booked for the alleged crime and produced in Panchagarh chief judicial magistrate's court. "CJM Humayun Kabir Sarkar sent him to judicial custody," said OC Abdul Latif.

Man held with 10 gold bars at Ctg airport
Customs officials on Thursday detained man along with 10 gold bars at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport.
The detainee was Sazzad Hossain, a passenger of BG-4136 flight that landed at the airport from Jeddah.

The gold bars were detected while scanning the luggage of Sazzad, said Md Salauddin Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Airport Customs.
The bars were hidden wrapped in scotch tape in lithium battery carbon inside a toy car, he said.
Legal action will be taken against the detainee, he said.

Police conduct drive in Nalbhog to catch their assailants; 9 arrested
Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested nine people and recovered a police handcuff in connection with an assault on members of Dakshin Khan Police Station in the capital on Sunday.
The arrested people were identified as Lashkar Ali, Md. Nurul Islam, Md. Jahangir Alam, Zahirul Islam, Md. Kamrul Islam, Md. Nazrul Islam, Jhinuk, Khushi and Champa.
Mirpur zonal team of DB (Mirpur Division) conducted simultaneous drives in Nalbhog area under Turag police station in Uttara on Sunday and arrested them.
Earlier, a team of Dakkhin Khan police station arrested two people named Mohammad Kamrul Islam and Zahirul Islam along with some cannabis while conducting checking activities in the area adjacent to Kotbari Railgate check post. Later, 30-40 unidentified people attacked the police team by randomly throwing brickbats and snatching items of the police, including the police handcuffs.

Five police members, including an ASI, were injured during the attack on the police team. A case was filed with Dakkhin Khan police station accusing 16 named individuals and several others unnamed.
The arrested people were members of an organized drug trafficking syndicate . They have been running drug business in the area for a long time, said Additional SP Md Syful Islam.
