7-year-old girl killed after ‘rape’ in Ctg
A seven-year-old girl was killed allegedly after rape in Port Colony area of Chattogram port city on Sunday morning.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bandar Police Station, said being informed by locals, they recovered the body from an abandoned house in the area around 11.30am.
The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC said adding that the victim’s father is a rickshaw puller and mother is a begger.
A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team visited the spot.
Four mobile banking fraudsters arrested with 57 SIM cards: CID
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said on Thursday that four members of a gang involved in swindling money from mobile banking users through cloning SIM cards have been arrested from Dhaka, Jamalpur and Faridpur.
The arrestees have been identified as mobile banking platform bKash’s sacked Distributor Sales Officer (DSOs) Shariar Nafiz alias Milton, Md Ripon Mia, Md Yosuf Miah, and Mahbub Kazi. Of them Mahbub is the said to be the mastermind of the gang.
Nine mobile phone sets and 57 SIM cards were also seized from the possession of the arrestees during the drives on Wednesday, said Md Rezaul Masud, a special superintendent of police at cyber police center of CID at its headquarters in the city.
A bKash agent lodged a complaint to the CID that he received a phone call from the office of bKash DSO asking him to help them update information. He further said that the fraudsters embezzled Tk 10, 7000 through cloning his SIM card after the bKash agent provided them with One Time Password (OTP).
Following the complaint, the CID members in cooperation with the CPC conducted a drive in Jamalpur district and arrested Milton and Ripon on Wednesday, the CID officer said.

Upon information from the duo, Yousuf and mastermind Mahbub were rounded up from the Dhaka’s Mohammadpur and Faridpur in this connection on the same day, he said.
In the preliminary interrogation, Mahbub confessed to swindling Tk 15 lakh from the mobile banking users through paid version cloning apps for the last three months, the intelligence officer continued.
A case was filed under Digital Security Act at Paltan Police Station in this connection, he added.
CID gets new head in Md Ali Mia; other new postings in police
Dhaka, Aug 16 (UNB)- The Home Ministry has brought some changes to the organogram of police, reshuffling the leadership in some key posts such as Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Tourist Police as the chief of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday.
In another notification, the ministry also gave new postings of three BCS (police) cadre' officers on the same day. Police Section-1 of Public Security Division under the Home Ministry has already issued separate notification in this regard.
According to the notification, Additional IGP (Tourist Police) Mohammad Ali Mia has been given a new posting as the Additional IGP of the CID, a specialized organization of Bangladesh police.

Another notification said, Additional DIG of the CID Md Imam Hossain has been given new posting as DIG (Current Charge) of the same department, while Commandant of Range Reserve Force, Chatragram Shyamal Kumar Nath has been posted as DIG (Current Charge) of the CID, and Commandant of In-service Training Centre of Mymensingh has been given new posting as Superintendent of Police (TR) at Police headquarters.
Both orders will be effective immediately in the public interest, the Notification signed by Deputy Secretary Dhononjoy Kumar Das said.
CID to probe Boat Club businessman Nasir’s case against Pori Moni
A Dhaka court on Monday directed Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the assault, vandalism, murder attempt and threat case against film actress Pori Moni filed by Nasir Uddin Mahmood, former Dhaka Boat Club executive and businessman.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Hasan made the direction and asked CID to submit a report within October 6.
On July 6, Nasir filed the case against Pori and two of her associates. The court fixed today’s date to pass an order in this regard after recording the plaintiff’s statement, said Anwarul Kabir Babu, additional public prosecutor of the court.

The others accused in the case are Fatema Tuz Jannat Boney and Zunayed Bogdadi Jimmy alias Jim.
According to the complaint, Pori and her associates were alcoholics, and used to get drunk in famous clubs and take liquor in parcels without making payment and threatening to file fake cases using their connection with police.
On the night of June 9 in 2021, Pori and her associates went to Dhaka Boat Club in Savar after 12am and got drunk as usual. Before leaving around 1 am Pori asked the plaintiff to sit with her for a while. At one point she tried to seduce Nasir and take a bottle of liquor as a parcel but free which the plaintiff denied.
After that Pori Moni started verbally assaulting him and threw a serving glass and phone at Nasir hurting him on the head and chest.

They also threatened Nasir with beating and killing, he said in the statement.
Later to cover up the incident she filed a case against Nasir and two others at Savar police station for rape and murder attempts.
CID detains youth who removed nuts, bolts of Padma Bridge
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) members detained a youth who removed nuts and bolts from the railing of Padma Bridge.
The detainee was identified as Bayezid Talha.
A team of CID conducted a drive in the city’s Shantinagar area on Sunday evening and arrested him, CID told UNB.
Jisan, additional superintendent of police (CID) said they will disclose details about the youth at a press conference on Monday at noon.

A 34-second long TikTok video went viral on social media where it was seen that the youth standing on Padma Bridge was removing nuts and bolts from its railing.
Earlier on Saturday, the much-awaited Padma Bridge was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina which opened for all this morning.
However, many were seen taking photos, and making TikTok videos – stopping vehicles on the bridge, and creating tailbacks on both sides of the long-awaited bridge.
10 DVR machines recovered from BM container depot
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has recovered 10 digital video recording (DVR) machines from the IT room of the BM container depot at Sitakunda in Chattogram.
The CID team collected information and pictures and the burned DVR machines from the IT room on Saturday.
A total of 118 CCTV cameras were installed in the depot area for monitoring, most of which were damaged during the explosions, said CID inspector Mohammad Sharif.

“Though most of the machines were burned, we collected them and handed them over to Sitakunda police. Now we will try to retrieve the information from the machines by experts ,” he added.
Meanwhile, the cleaning activities of the debris inside the container depot are going on to make it functional again.
According to sources, "the debris and the damaged containers are being removed by using cranes, excavators and bulldozers.”

Depot authorities are removing these with their own manpower and equipment, sources added.
Earlier, on Saturday night, at least 46 people were killed including firefighters and over 200 injured in a devastating fire and explosions at the BM container depot in Sitakunda.
55-yr-old Hindu woman found dead in Kushtia
A 55-year-old Hindu woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her flat in Kushtia city on Monday evening.
The deceased was identified as Shefali Biswash, the wife of a retired engineer of the Bangladesh Power Development Board, Ananda Kumar Biswash. Police and family members suspect she was murdered.
Shefali lived with her husband in the second-floor flat of an apartment building in D block of a housing society in the city.

"On Monday evening, I went to the fourth floor to oversee some construction work. After returning, I found a severely injured Shefali lying on the floor,” Ananda said.
Shefali was rushed to a nearby hospital, but she soon succumbed to her injuries, he said.
Ananda suspects his wife was killed by burglars, while her brother Dipak claimed that it was a planned murder.

Swapan Kumar, an inspector of Kushtia Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said a forensic team has collected evidence from the spot for investigation.
“Prima-facie, it seems to be a planned murder. A probe is on,” he said.
Sabbirul Alam, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model police station, said the woman's body has been sent for an autopsy.
3 remanded for slicing woman’s body after rape inside pharmacy in Sunamganj
A Sunamganj court on Sunday placed the accused pharmacy owner and two others on eight-day remand each for gang raping a woman, killing her and later slicing her body into pieces to hide their crime.
Judicial Magistrate Abdur Rahim passed the order after Inspector (CID) Liton Dewan, investigation officer in the case produced the accused before court and sought 10-days in remand for each.
After the court granted the remand, accused pharmacy owner Jitesh Chandra Gop,30, Anjit Chandra Gop,38, and Ashit Gop, 36 were taken under Criminal Investigation Department’s custody, said Sunamganj court Inspector Md Badrul Alam Talukdar.

On February 17, six body parts of Shahnaz Parvin Jyotsna,35, wife of an expatriate, were recovered from the pharmacy named Ovi Medical Hall in Jagannathpur municipality area in Sunamganj.
The same day, a case was filed at Jagannathpur police station against Jitesh following a complaint lodged by Shahnaz’s brother Helal Ahmed.
On February 18, CID arrested the three accused from Dhaka and Sunamganj.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to killing Shahnaz after rape and then cutting her body into pieces to hide their crime, said CID.

According to the accused, Shahnaz, mother of three children, had a good relationship with Jitesh as she used to buy most of her family’s medicines from his pharmacy.
On Wednesday afternoon, Shahnaz went to Jitesh’s pharmacy as he assured her of suggesting some medicines for her confidential medical issues.
He kept her waiting in the room behind the shop and later with the help of two more shop owners- Anjit and Ashit -made her unconscious by swallowing sleeping pills.
They raped her in the late hours of night and strangled her to death when Shahnaz said she will inform her family about the incident.
Later they cut her body into six pieces with a sharp knife and packed those in boxes.
They were planning to dump the boxes into a pond, said CID.
Sunamganj pharmacy owner, 2 others sliced woman’s body after rape: CID
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police have arrested three people for their suspected involvement in slicing the body of a woman after raping her in a Sunamganj pharmacy.
The arrestees are pharmacy owner Jitesh Chandra Gop,30, Anjit Chandra Gop,38, and Ashit Gop, 36.
Conducting a drive, Jitesh was arrested on Friday from Nurer Chala area under Bhatara police station in the capital while Anjit and Ashit were arrested from Jagannathpur municipality area in Sunamganj, said CID on Saturday at a press briefing at its Malibagh office.
On Thursday, six body parts of Shahnaz Parvin Jyotsna,35, wife of an expatriate, were recovered from the pharmacy named Ovi Medical Hall in Jagannathpur municipality area in Sunamganj.
The same day, a case was filed at Jagannathpur police station against Jitesh following a complaint lodged by Shahnaz’s brother Helal Ahmed.

5 ex-SUST students held in Dhaka as impasse continues
A team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday arrested five former students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on charge of sending money to the protesting students at the university.
The arrestees are Reza Nur Moin, 31, son of Moin Uddin of Bogura district, Habibur Rahman, 26, son of Matier Rahman Khan, Nazmul Sakib, 32, son of Mizanur Rahman of Khulna district, AKM Maruf Hossain, 28, son of Mosharraf of Mirpur in Dhaka and Foysal Ahmed, 27, son of Sadiqul Islam.

All the arrestees are being interrogated at Jalalabad Police Station, said police.
A team of CID brought them here around 6 pm and handed them over to police, said Nisharul Arif, Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP).
The former students were held from different parts of the district and city for sending money to the SUST students now on hunger strike demanding their VC’s removal.
The students embarked on fast-unto-death on the university campus on January 19, demanding the resignation of SUST Vice-Chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed over police crackdown on its students.
The students vowed to continue with their hunger strike till the VC quits.
The hunger strike was launched on January 19 by 24 students and later one of them had to leave due to family obligations. On January 22, three more students joined their fellows in the hunger strike.
The strike was launched after police swooped on the protesting students, charging batons and firing sound grenades and shotgun bullets.

The alleged attack was carried out to free the VC from confinement in the university’s IICT building, and it had left 40 people hurt, including teachers, students and cops.
Zafrin Ahmed, a provost of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall, a dorm for females, was at the centre of the initial unrest as she allegedly misbehaved with some students on January 13 when they met her with some complaints.
She later resigned from her post, citing health issues.
Provost Zafrin Ahmed’s removal was one of the initial demands of the students protesting on the campus. But it has now spread to the general students as well.
