India reports 34,113 new COVID-19 cases
India's COVID-19 tally rose to 42,655,534 on Monday, as 34,113 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the health ministry's latest data.
Besides, 346 deaths due to the pandemic since Sunday morning took the total death toll to 509,011.

There are still 478,882 active COVID-19 cases in the country with a fall of 58,163 active cases during the past 24 hours. This was the 21st consecutive day when the number of active cases declined in the country.
A total of 41,677,641 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals so far, out of which 91,930 were discharged during the past 24 hours.

Bangladesh reported 33 more Covid-linked deaths with 11,596 fresh cases in 24 hours till Thursday morning.
The daily positivity rate further dropped to 25.86 per cent from Wednesday's 27.43 per cent after testing 44,843 samples during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
On Wednesday, Bangladesh reported 36 more Covid-linked deaths with 12,193 fresh cases.
The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatalities to 28,494 while the caseload mounted to 1,835,776.
Among the new deceased, 22 were men and 11 women.
Eighteen deaths were reported in Dhaka division while six in Khulna, four in Rajshahi, two each in Chattogram Sylhet and one in Rangpur divisions.

Meanwhile, the mortality rate further declined to 1.55 per cent.
However, the recovery rate also declined to 86.13 per cent with the recovery of 5,955 more patients during the 24-hour period.
In January, the country reported 322 Covid-linked deaths and 2,13,294 new cases while 19,112 recovered from the disease, according to the DGHS.
On January 28, Bangladesh logged its earlier highest daily positivity rate at 33.37% reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.
Bangladesh’s total tally of Omicron cases reached 69 with the detection of five more cases till January 23, according to GISAID, a global initiative on sharing all influenza data.
On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.
The country reported this year’s first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.

Extension of restrictions
The government has extended the period of the existing restrictions on people’s movement and other activities until February 21 and imposed two new ones considering the worsening Covid-19 situation in the country.
These restrictions will remain in force from February 7 to 21, said a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday.
The new restrictions are- gathering of more than 100 people in social, political, religious or state events will not be allowed in open places or indoors and those who will attend the events must bring Covid Vaccination Certificate or report of RT PCR test underwent within 24 hours.
Besides, in-person classes of schools, colleges and equivalent educational institutions will remain suspended during this period, said the notification.
On Tuesday, the government extended the closure of secondary and higher secondary-level educational institutions by two weeks until February 20.
Amid the growing concern over the Coronavirus’ new Omicron variant, the government on January 13 imposed 11-point restrictions.
Global Covid cases surpass 366 million
The overall number of Covid infections is fast approaching 366 million, with a spike in cases of the Omicron variant across the world.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 366,694,242 while the death toll from the virus reached 5,656,642 Friday morning.
The US has recorded 74,695,333 cases so far and 902,140 people have died from the virus in the country, the university data shows.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 40,620,197 on Thursday, as 248,697 new cases were registered in 24 hours across the South Asian country, according to the federal health ministry's latest data.

Meanwhile, 627 deaths due to the pandemic reported since Tuesday morning took the total death toll to 492,357.
Brazil, which has been experiencing a new wave of cases since last January, registered 24,782,922 cases as of Thursday, while its Covid death toll rose to 625,169.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh reported 15 more Covid-linked deaths with 15,807 fresh cases in 24 hours till Thursday morning.
The daily positivity rate rose again to 31.98% from Wednesday’s 31.64% after testing 49,425 samples, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The country logged its highest daily positivity rate of 32.55% on July 24 last year, reporting 6,780 cases and 195 deaths.
On Wednesday, the country reported 17 more Covid-linked deaths and 15,527 fresh cases.
The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatalities to 28,288 while the caseload mounted to 1,747,311 on Thursday.
Among the new deceased, 10 were women and five women.
Eight cases were reported in Dhaka division, three in Chattogram, two in Rajshahi and one each in Barishal and Rangpur divisions.
Meanwhile, the mortality rate further declined to 1.62%.

However, the recovery rate also kept declining to 89.34% with the recovery of 1,037 more patients during the 24-hour period.

India's COVID-19 tally rose to 40,371,500 on Thursday, as 286,384 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the Health Ministry's latest data.
Besides, as many as 573 deaths due to the pandemic since Wednesday morning took the total death toll to 491,700.
There are still 2,202,472 active COVID-19 cases in India despite a fall of 20,546 active cases during the past 24 hours.

A total of 37,677,328 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals so far, out of which 306,357 were discharged during the past 24 hours.
KU suspends in-person classes and decides to go online teaching
The Khulna University authorities on Friday announced suspension of in-person classes until February 6, due to the recent surge of Covid-19 cases across the country. However, online classes will be held and the dormitories will remain open during this period.
Read: DU suspends physical classes till Feb 6 The decision came from an emergency meeting held virtually at 4pm chaired by its Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mahmud Hossain, said the university’s PRO Md Atiar Rahman. The classes for the first year of the 2020-21 academic year which were scheduled to begin on January 30 has also been cancelled. At the same time, first year registration and admission to vacant seats will also remain postponed, he added. "The decision in this regard will be taken later". Besides, the offices of the university will be in service from 9 am to 1 pm following proper health guidelines.

India reports 258,089 new COVID-19 cases
India's COVID-19 tally rose to 37,380,253 on Monday, as 258,089 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the health ministry's latest data.
This is the fifth consecutive day when more than 200,000 daily new cases were registered in the country.
Besides, as many as 385 deaths due to the pandemic since Sunday morning took the total death toll to 486,451.

There are still 1,656,341 active COVID-19 cases in India. A total of 35,237,461 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals so far, out of which 151,740 were discharged during the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, India's Omicron tally has reached 8,209, as an increase of 6.02 percent was seen since Sunday. Most of the Omicron cases have been reported from the states of Maharashtra, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Delhi.

This is the second consecutive day when more than 200,000 daily cases were registered across the country in over eight months.

Besides, 315 deaths due to the pandemic since Thursday morning took the total death toll to 485,350.
There are still 1,272,073 active COVID-19 cases in the country with a rise of 154,542 active cases during the past 24 hours. This is the 17th consecutive day when the number of active cases rose in the country.

A total of 34,824,706 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals so far, out of which 109,345 were discharged during the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the country's Omicron tally has reached 5,753, seeing an increase of 4.83 percent since Thursday. Most of the Omicron cases have been reported from the states of Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Delhi.
Covid in Bangladesh: Positivity rate rises further to 8.97%
Bangladesh is seeing a continuous rise in Covid-19 cases as 2,458 more infections along with two more deaths were reported in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
With the fresh cases reported after testing 27,709 samples, the daily positivity rate jumped again to 8.97 per cent from Monday’s 8.53 per cent during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The country last logged 2,588 cases on September 9, last year along with 58 deaths in 24 hours.
Bangladesh is currently seeing a surge of Covid-19 cases as health authorities logged 10,392 infections in the last 10 days since January 1.
The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatalities to 28,107 while the caseload mounted to 15, 98, 389 on Tuesday.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.76 per cent during the period.
The recovery rate kept declining to 97.06 per cent with the recovery of 274 more patients during the 24-hour period.

Covid Restriction
On Monday, the government has imposed restrictions on public movement and other activities like operating public transport at their half capacities as well as ensuring safety protocols after observing the outbreak of Omicron variant of Coronavirus and the overall Covid situation in the country.
This restriction will take effect on January 13 and will remain in force until further notice.
Trains to operate with 50% passengers from Jan 15
Bangladesh Railway has decided to operate trains at half of their capacities from January 15 (Saturday) in an effort to ensure social distancing during train journeys as Covid-19 cases are on the rise in the country.
The Bangladesh Railway also brought some changes in issuing and booking tickets.

The changes are:
· Issuance of tickets for inter-city trains at half of their capacities for ensuring social distancing
· 25% tickets of the total seats will be issued from ticket counters while the rest 25% through online
· Issuance of standing tickets from platforms will remain suspended
· All the existing quotas for railway staff except the emergency ones will remain suspended until further notice
· Ensuring the use of masks by all passengers while issuing tickets and travelling
· Catering services and supplying of bedding services will continue subject to following health guidelines strictly.

Covid surge in Bangladesh: Daily positivity rate jumps to 6.78%
The Covid-19 situation keeps worsening in Bangladesh with health authorities logging three more deaths and 1,491 new infections in 24 hours till Sunday morning.
With the detection of fresh cases after testing 21,980 samples, the daily-case positivity rate jumped to 6.78 percent from Saturday’s 5.79 per cent during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The country last recorded 1,562 cases on September 21, last year with a death toll of 26.
