Bank official killed in Magura road crash
A bank official was killed in a road accident at Ganganalia on Magura-Sreepur road on Sunday evening.
The deceased was identified as Md Ujjal Hossain, an officer (cash) of Agrani Bank Sreepur branch and son of Abdur Razzak of Bara Salai village under Kuchiamora union of Magura Sadar upazila.
Witnesses said motorcyclist Ujjal and his co-rider Abhik Majumder fell from the motorbike when Ujjal was trying to overtake a three-wheeler around 7:30 pm.

Ujjal was crushed under the wheels of the three wheeler and died on the spot.
Magura Sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Manjur Alam said that the body of was kept at the morgue of Magura Sadar Hospital after recovery.

A case was filed at Magura police station, he said.
UP polls violence: 3 killed in Narsingdi
Three people were killed and 30 others injured at Bashgari union in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district, prior to the second phase of the union parishad (UP) polls across the country on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Salauddin, 30, son of Hekim Mia, Jahangir, 26, son of Abdul Haque Mia and Dulala, 45, son of Hazi Siraj of Bashgari village in the upazila.
The deceased were supporters of Ashraful Islam, an Awami League-backed candidate for the post of chairman in Bashgari UP.
Satyajit Kumar Ghosh, assistant superintendent of police (Raipura circle), said supporters of Ashraful Islam and Ratul Hasan Zakir, an independent candidate, attacked each other in front of Bashgari Union Parishad complex around 6 am, two hours before the beginning of the elections.
The two groups fired gunshots and attacked each other with teta (a type of fish spearing), leaving three people dead and 30 others injured, he said.

The injured were taken to Brahmanbaria and Narsingdi Sadar hospitals.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
However, voting is underway in Bashgari union parishad.
Polling began in 835 of 848 UPs at 8am on Thursday and will continue till 4pm.
More than 41,000 candidates, including 3,310 contenders for the post of chairman, are contesting in the countrywide second phase UP election.
A total of 81 chairman candidates have already been elected unopposed. Similarly, all contestants -- for chairman and member posts, and reserved seats -- in five UPs were elected uncontested.
Some 28,747 candidates are contesting for the member posts and 9,161 women for the reserved seats in the UPs.

But 203 member candidates and 73 women candidates for reserved seats were elected unopposed in this phase.
There are nearly 16.6 million voters -- 8,405,831 men, 8,189,379 women and 16 transgender (Hijra) -- under 8,492 polling stations in these UPs.
Two women die after being hit by train in Khulna
Two women died after being hit by a Dhaka-bound speeding train in Khulna city Wednesday night, police said Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Marjina, 40, and Shefali, 38.

Molla Khabir, in-charge of Khulna Government Railway Police (GRP) Station, said the accident occurred around 10.30pm when the two were crossing the train tracks in the Afil Jute Mill area of the city.
"Sundarban Express hit them. While one of them died in the impact, another sustained severe injuries. Both were declared dead on arrival by doctors at Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH)," the OC said.

Pabna pre-poll violence: Man dies of injuries at Rajshahi hospital
A 45-year-old man who sustained injuries in pre-poll violence in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna district Monday night, died at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital a day later.
The deceased was identified as Sabuj Hossain, son of Mahatab Uddin of Chalna village in the upazila.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the Sujanagar police station, said a clash broke out Monday night between the supporters of Awami League-backed Union Parishad chairman candidate Amin Uddin and his rival Omar Faruk in Bhaina.

Several people sustained injuries in the violence and some motorbikes were also vandalised, the OC said, adding that both sides submitted complaints in connection with the violence.
Of the injured, two men -- Sabuj, a supporter of Omar, and Anwar Hossain, a supporter of Amin -- were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital as their condition was said to be critical.
Sabuj succumbed to his injures around 9pm on Tuesday.
As the news of his death spread, Omar's supporters brought out a procession in the Chalna area, demanding a free and fair investigation into the violence and exemplary punishment to those responsible for the untimely demise of Sabuj.

Schoolboy killed in wall collapse in city
A schoolboy was killed when a portion of a wall collapsed on him on a road near Azimpur Westin School in the city on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Zihad, 7, a class one student of a school in Azimpur and son of betel nut seller Nazir Hossain of Nawabganj upazila.

Inspector Mohammad Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, said a portion of a concrete wall fell on Zihad while he was going to school with his father, leaving him critically injured.
Later, he was taken to DMCH where doctors declared him dead.
SSC examinee hacked to death in Chudanga
A SSC examinee was on Sunday hacked to death in an attack by unknown assailants shortly after he attended a farewell reception by his school at Gulshanpara of Chuadanga town, police said.
The motive behind murdering Tonmoy Topu, 17, a student of Al-helal Secondary Islami Academy, could not be immediately known.

According to witnesses the assailants attacked the boy with a sharp weapon when his classmates left the school after the reception. They left him lying on the school ground with severe injuries.
Locals rushed him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge of Chuadanga Sadar police station Mohammad Mohsin said police are hunting the attackers.

Oil tanker explodes in Sierra Leone, killing at least 92
An oil tanker exploded near Sierra Leone’s capital, killing at least 92 people and severely injuring dozens of others after large crowds gathered to collect leaking fuel, officials and witnesses said Saturday.
The explosion took place late Friday after a bus struck the tanker in Wellington, a suburb just to the east of Freetown.
The mortuary at Connaught Hospital reported 92 bodies had been brought in by Saturday morning. About 30 severely burned victims were not expected to survive, according to staff member Foday Musa.

Injured people whose clothes had burned off in the fire that followed the explosion lay naked on stretchers as nurses attended to them Saturday.
Video obtained by The Associated Press of the explosion’s aftermath showed a giant fireball burning in the night sky as some survivors with severe burns cried out in pain. Charred remains of the victims lay strewn at the scene awaiting transport to mortuaries.
President Julius Maada Bio, who was in Scotland attending the United Nations climate talks Saturday, deplored the “horrendous loss of life.”
“My profound sympathies with families who have lost loved ones and those who have been maimed as a result,” he tweeted.
Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh visited two hospitals overnight and said Sierra Leone’s National Disaster Management Agency and others would “work tirelessly” in the wake of the emergency.

“We are all deeply saddened by this national tragedy, and it is indeed a difficult time for our country,” he said on his Facebook page.
Two killed in Cumilla road crash
At least two persons died and one sustained injuries in a collision between a microbus and a lorry in the Katherpull area of Cumilla's Chandina upazila in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Ibrahim, son of Abdul Malek of Bhatgaon village in Manoharganj upazila, and Towhidul Islam son of Kamal Hossain of Laksham upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Moynamoti highway police station Belal Uddin Jahangir said the accident occurred when the microbus hit the lorry from behind after its driver lost control of the speeding vehicle.
"While two persons died on the spot in the impact of the crash, the injured is being treated at Cumilla Medical College Hospital," he added.

Youth stabbed dead in Rampura
A 27-year-old youth was stabbed to death allegedly by a mugger on the loose at Rampura Boubazar area in Dhaka early Friday.
The deceased was identified as a mason Alamgir Hossain, who was a resident of that area.
Witnesses said Alamgir was having tea at the roadside stall in Adarsha ally of the area around 7am when the mugger Limon, 30, stabbed Alamgir on his legs indiscriminately and fled the scene.

Later, locals rushed Alamgir to Better Life Hospital and then to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon.
A local Md Shiblu said Alamgir provided some information about Limon to the police a few days ago. He added that Alamgir was a mason by profession as well as cooperating with the police by providing information.
Md. Bachchu Mia, police inspector of DMCH police camp said the body has been kept in the DMCH morgue for an autopsy.

Dengue outbreak: 2 more lives lost to Dengue, 182 others infected
Two more people died of dengue and 182 new patients were hospitalized across the country in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
With the latest deaths, the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease this year increased to 80, according DGHS.
Among the new patients, 143 were undergoing treatment in Dhaka hospitals while the remaining 39 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.

Some 916 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country as of Tuesday morning.
Of them, 742 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 174 were listed outside Dhaka.
Among them, 75 people died in Dhaka division alone, two each in Chattogram and Khulna divisions and one in Rajshahi.

Since January, some 20,518 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue in the country.
So far, 19,522 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said DGHS.
The number of dengue patients hospitalized in a single day was the highest with 343 patients on September 7.
In September the country recorded the highest number of 7,841 dengue cases of the current year with 22 deaths.
In August 7,698 people were diagnosed with dengue while the highest 34 people died from it, said DGHS.
