Bangladeshi shot dead at border by Indian Khasi people: Jaintapur police
A Bangladeshi man was shot dead, allegedly by Indian Khasi people, near the Goabari border area in Sylhet's Jaintapur upazila early Sunday.
The deceased, Madassir Ali, 52, was a resident of Guabari Adarsha village in the same upazila.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaintapur Police Station, Golam Dastgir Ahmed, said that Madassir went to collect betel nuts near the border area on Saturday night.
“Khasi people from the Indian side opened fire at him,” he said.
The body was recovered by the police and sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
Landslide kills four of a family in Cox's Bazar's Ramu
A landslide in Cox's Bazar's Ramu killed four members of a family living on the foot of a hill Wednesday, the authorities said.
The incident took place at around 8:30pm due to a landslide in Jadi Hill in Lot Ukhiyar Ghona area of Kauarkhop union, Ramu Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fahmida Mustafa said.
The four people killed were identified as Azizur Rahman, 50, his wife Rahima Begum, 45, mother-in-law Dil Faraz Begum, 70, and daughter-in-law Nasima Begum, 20, of Lot Ukhiyar Ghona, he added.
Kauarkup Union Parishad Chairman Shamsul Alam said Azizur and his family members were having dinner at night when the landslide demolished their house. "All of them immediately died from the impact of the collapse."
For a long time, the soil has been excavated from the hill for some brick kilns surrounding it, which might have caused the landslide, locals said.

HSC examinee killed in 'merciless' knife attack in Dhaka's Merul Badda
A Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) examinee was left to fight for his life, and two of his friends suffered injuries after a "swift, bloody and merciless" knife attack in the capital's Merul Badda Sunday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Satil, 20. The injured are 18-year-olds Shoayeb Hossain and Rupom Datta.
The incident took place around 7:30pm at Merul Badda DIT Project's Road 13.

Sayem Sikder, a local who took them to the hospital, said: "We rushed to the scene hearing screams and found Satil and Shoayeb critically injured."
"We took them to Asian Hospital first. Later, they were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where Satil was declared dead around 9:30pm. The injured are now undergoing treatment at the hospital"
"We learned that they were repeatedly stabbed by a group of people, including someone called Rocky," Sayem said.
The body has been kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy, Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost, said.
1 killed, 20 injured in B’baria clash
A 60-year old man was killed and at least 20 others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over collecting extortion money from pickup vans in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbraia on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Shital Mia from Muktarpur village in the upazila.
At least six houses were set afire and several others were vandalised during the clash, said witnesses.
According to locals, on Friday evening Ibrahim Mia from Muktarpur village had an altercation with Rahim Mia of Dharabhanga village who works as lineman of Salim Ganj Bazar.

They locked into an argument as Rahim demanded Tk 200 as extortion from a pickup van that was unloading logs at Ibrahim’s father Kabir Hossain’s sawmill.
On Saturday morning, some residents of Muktarpur village allegedly beat up Manik and Khokon Mia of Dharabhanga village over the same incident.
As the news spread some residents of Dharabhanga village attacked Muktarpur village with locally made sharp weapons, triggering a clash that left Shital Mia and several others severely injured. They also looted valuables and vandalised houses.
Shital Mia died on the way while being taken to Dhaka for treatment, said Saifuddin Anwar, officer-in-Charge of Nabinagar police station.

Malek Mia, Dulal Mia, Mehedi Hasan, Amir Mia, Suman Mia, Royal Mia, Mohammad Ali were among the injured.
OC Saifuddin said police brought the situation under control and then additional police were deployed in the area.
Jubo League activist stabbed to death in Chattogram
A Jubo League activist was stabbed to death by some miscreants at Mirerhat in Chattogram's Sitakunda upazila Sunday evening.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Yusuf, 35, son of Madin Ullah of the Nunachhara area of the municipality, said Tofayel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda police station.
Locals said the incident took place around 6pm when some miscreants numbering 20-25 swooped on Yusuf when he along with his friends were taking evening snacks in a restaurant in the Bottola area.

They stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him severely injured.
He was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
"Additional police force has been deployed in the area to avert further trouble," added the OC.
The reason behind the murder could not immediately be confirmed, said the officer.
JCD leader shot dead in clash with cops over arrest of a BNP leader in Brahmanbaria
A leader of the opposition BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal was shot to death in a clash between police and supports of the party over the arrest of one of their leaders in Bancharampur upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.
Several people including six cops and BNP men were also injured in the clash while two BNP men were detained in this connection.
The deceased was identified as Nayon Miah, 22, vice president of Sonarampur union parishad unit JCD and son of Rahmat Ullah of Charshibpur under the upazila.
The injured cops— Bancharampur police station’s OC Nure Alam, inspector Tarun Kanti Dey, Sub-Inspector (SI) Afzal Hossain, Bikiron Chakma, Constables Shafiqul Islam and Biswajit Chandra Das.
The BNP sources said they distributed leaflets among general people to woo them to join their Cumilla’s grand rally slated for November 26.
After the publicity, they brought out a procession led by local leader VP Sayeduzzaman from the Molla Bari area and again gathered there after parading several roads.
Meanwhile, a team of police led by the OC took a position in front of the Bari and tried to pick Sayeduzzaman up from the spot while the BNP men were resisting.
At one stage, the police and the BNP men locked into an altercation which resulted in pelting brickbats and opening several rounds of bullets around 4pm, they claimed.
Nayon fell down on the earth after being hit by a bullet and several others also sustained injuries in the attack, Mohammad Delwar Hossain, general secretary of Rupozdi union unit BNP under the upazila, said this while talking to media at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). He came to the hospital taking the injured JCD leader.
He was first rushed to Bancharampur Upazila Health Complex. Later he was shifted to the DMCH where physicians pronounced him dead on arrival around 7:30pm, Bachhu Mia, inspector of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed.
The body was kept at the morgue for autopsy, he added.

Fozayel Chowdhury, the convener of the district unit JCD, claimed that their fellow died in the firing from the police while they were distributing leaflets.
Police detained two BNP men—Rafiqul Islam and Saidur Rahman from the spot, he said.
OC Nure Alam said that the BNP men pelted brickbat targeting police without any provocation when they went there.
Besides, they tried to snatch arms away from the cops forcing the cops to fire for self-safety, the OC claimed.
“Six cops including me were injured in the attack by the BNP men, besides a BNP man was also injured,” he said, adding that they detained two BNP men in connection with the attack.
Molla Md Shaheen, additional superintendent of the police, confirmed the death news of the JCD leader.
An additional force was deployed in and around the area to ward off any untoward incident further, he added.

78-year-old killed in Old Dhaka house 'robbery'
A 78-year-old man was reportedly killed by robbers at his residence in Old Dhaka's Chawkbazar.
According to Mansur Ahmed's son Sarwar Ahmed, his father was found in a pool of blood with his hands and legs tied inside his home on the second floor of his six-storey building in Khaje Dewan Road Thursday midnight.
Mansur was whisked off to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Earlier, at 9pm, Sarwar and other members of Mansur's family went to a wedding ceremony, but the 78-year-old stayed home because he was not feeling well.
Returning home at midnight, Sarwar and others found the door to Mansur's flat locked. As they broke open the door only to find a bloodied Mansur on the floor.
Sarwar said the robbers injected his father with some drug before looting the house, and he later died from a serious injury to the head.
"Everything was ransacked; all the cash and gold stored in the house were looted," he said but could not provide the exact amount.
"We are investigating the incident and the body has been kept at a hospital morgue for autopsy," Abdul Qayum, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station, said.

Two ninth-graders killed on Sylhet-Tamabil highway as motorcycles collide
Two ninth-graders were killed and a youth was seriously injured on Sylhet-Tamabil Highway in Jaintiapur upazila as two motorcycles collided, police said.
The students were identified as 15-year-olds Sakran Hasan and Md Shaheen Ahmad. They both were from Gowainghat upazila and students of Amir Miah High School Jaflong. Injured Mamum Ahmed, 20, is from Jaintiapur's Nijpat union.
"The accident occurred in the Sreepur Assampara area as Sakran and Shaheen were returning to Jaintiapur and Mamum was going to Jaflong on their motorbikes. Their vehicles collided as one of them tried to overtake a truck," Golam Dastgir Ahmad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jaintapur Model Police Station, said.
"The impact of the crash left all of them critically injured. Locals rushed them to the local hospital. The injured were later referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where Shaheen was declared dead upon arrival, and Sakran died at 7pm. Mamum is still not out of the woods," he added.

Two killed after motorcycles collide in Faridpur
Two people were killed and another was seriously injured after two motorcycles collided in Faridpur's Sadarpur upazila Friday, police said.
The two people killed were identified as Rimon, 18, of the Hanifer Dangi area of Sadarpur upazila and Tamim, 17, of Sareng Dangi area of the same upazila. Injured Hira, 19, is from Hanifer Dangi area of the same upazila.
"The accident occurred around 2.30pm near Monikotha market in Akoter Char union as Monikotha-bound motorcycle collided with a Sadarpur-bound two-wheeler," Subrata Goldar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadarpur Police Station, said.
The impact of the crash left Rimon, Tamim, and Hira critically injured, he added.
"Locals rushed Rimon and Hira to Sadarpur Upazila Health Complex and Tamim to Charbhadrasan Upazila Health Complex. Later, doctors declared Tamim and Rimon dead. The injured Hira is now undergoing treatment at Sadarpur Upazila Health Complex," the OC said.

Biscuit factory explosion kills youth in Dhaka's Kodomtoli
A 20-year-old youth died after an oven exploded in a biscuit factory in Dhaka's Kodomtoli Thursday, police said.
Md Mozammel, from Sylhet's Habiganj, was working with the oven when it exploded at 9:30pm, his colleague Azhar said. "He received serious injuries to his face and head."
Mozammel was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead at 10:15pm, Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the police outpost at the hospital, said.
The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy, he added.
