17 new coronavirus cases in Cumilla, Laxmipur
Seventeen coronavirus cases were confirmed from Cumilla and Laxmipur in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning.
In Cumilla, Comilla Medical College Hospital found 15 positive cases after testing 93 samples, according to the civil surgeon’s office.
Coronavirus cases jump to 13,770 in Bangladesh; 8 more die
Bangladesh’s confirmed coronavirus cases surged to 13,770 on Saturday after the health authorities announced the detection of 636 new patients in the last 24 hours.
“Besides, eight more deaths were reported during the period, taking the death toll in the country to 214,” Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said at its daily online briefing.
Dr Nasima Sultana said 35 labs tested 5,465 samples across the country in the last 24 hours.
She said another 313 patients have made recoveries within the period increasing the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients to 2,414.
JUST confirms 12 new coronavirus cases
Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) on Saturday confirmed 12 new coronavirus cases from Jashore, Narail and Jhenaidah districts.
“We’ve found 12 people infected with the virus after testing 95 samples from Jashore, Jhenaidah, Narail, Magura and Chuadanga as of Friday,” said Dr Iqbal Kabir Jahid, director of Genome Centre and Chairman of Microbiology department of the university.
Of the new patients, nine are from Jashore, two from Jhenaidah and one is from Narail, he added.
Dr Iqbal also said they have already sent the test reports to the respective civil surgeons, Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) and other authorities concerned through email.
Meanwhile, Jashore Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Abu Shahin said they have been trying to identify the people who tested positive for the virus.
In the daily online bulletin on Saturday, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana said coronavirus has spread to 60 districts in the country except Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Jhenidah and Satkhira.
2 coronavirus cases detected in Bhola
Two people including a child tested positive for coronavirus in the district for the first time on Thursday.
Bhola Civil Surgeon Ratan Kumar Dhali said a young man aged about 22 of Manpura upazila and an eight-year-old girl of Borhanuddin upazila were diagnosed with Covid-19 in the district.
Manpura Upazila Health Officer Dr Mahmudur Rashid said the young man, a hotel employee, came from Dhaka recently and he had no symptoms. But suspecting his travel history, the authorities concerned collected his sample and sent to Barishal for test.
According to the civil surgeon office, samples of 223 people were collected in the district and of them 221 tested negative.
