Driver, helper die as truck overturns in Chuadanga
A truck driver and his assistant died in Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga on Monday as the vehicle turned over and fell into a roadside canal.
The deceased were identified as Alamin, the truck driver, son of Wahidul Islam, and Ashik Hossain, 27, the driver’s assistant, son of Mofizur Rahman. Both were residents of Ibrahimpur village in Damurhuda upazila.
The accident occurred around 1:30 pm near Srirampur community clinic on Alamdanga –Kushtia Highway.

According to witnesses, the corn- laden truck headed towards Narayanganj lost control while overtaking another truck and hit a roadside tree before falling into the canal, said Saiful Islam, OC of Alamdanga police station.
Both the driver and his assistant died on the spot, said the OC from the spot.

Two die in Dinajpur road crash
A truck driver and his helper were killed in a head-on collision with a lorry on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway in the district in the early hours of Friday, police said.
The deceased driver was identified as KM Saiful Islam Badsha, 49, from Singra upazila in Natore, while his assistant could not be identified immediately, said Ashraful Islam, in-charge of Fulbari police station.

The driver of the lorry also suffered minor injuries in the accident, he said.
The accident occurred around 3am near the Rajarampur Fakirpara area of the district's Fulbari upazila when the Panchagarh-bound truck carrying bricks crashed into the Naogaon-bound potato-laden lorry coming from the opposite direction at high speed.
Truck driver Badsha and his assistant died on the spot in the impact, Ashraful said. "Both the vehicles have been seized."

Two die in Chuadanga after inhaling toxic gas inside septic tank
Two persons died allegedly after inhaling toxic gas inside the septic tank of an under-construction building in Chuadanga on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as sanitation worker Shariful Islam, 30, son of Ansar Pramanik of Kalyanpur village in Kushtia, and Sagar Das,15, the grandson of the building owner.
Around 10am, Shariful got down into the septic tank of the building owned by Nipen Das in Anandadhap village of the Alamdanga municipality area. When he failed to return, Sagar entered the tank to check on him.

When both failed to return, Sagar's family members informed the Alamdanga Fire Service and Civil Defence.
A team came and pulled the duo out of the septic tank and rushed them to Alamdanga upazila health complex, where doctors declared them dead on arrival, said Mokhlesur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the Alamdanga fire service station.
Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Alamdanga police station, said a team was sent to the spot for a probe.

60-yr-old Bangladeshi woman dies in Kolkata guest house fire
A 60-year-old Bangladeshi woman was charred to death while two others sustained injuries in a major fire that broke out at a guest house in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata early on Saturday morning.
The blaze started at the reception on the second floor of the guest house in Mirza Ghalib Street at 4am and soon engulfed 11 rooms in the building, officials said.
"Some 28 Bangladeshi nationals were staying at the guest house at the time of the fire. While the elderly woman died in the fire, the two other Bangladeshi nationals have been hospitalised with injuries," a senior Kolkata Police officer told the local media.
The deceased was identified as Samimatul Begum, the officer said.
A Kolkata Fire Service official said that three tenders took nearly two hours to contain the blaze. "The 11 rooms were completely gutted in the fire," he said.

An electrical short-circuit seemed to have triggered the deadly fire, the official said. "Anyway, a probe has been ordered and we will also check if the guest house had fire safety clearance from the department."
Fires are common at guest houses and small hotels in India because of lax enforcement of inferno safety regulations.

Covid-19 in Bangladesh: Positivity rate declines further, 10 more die
Bangladesh logged 10 more Covid-linked deaths with 1,516 fresh cases in 24 hours till Thursday morning as the positivity rate and the number of deaths keep declining.
The daily positivity rate slightly declined to 5.53per cent from Wednesday’s 5.58 per cent after testing 27,350 samples during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
On Wednesday, Bangladesh reported 5 more Covid-linked deaths with 1,298 fresh cases.
The fresh numbers took the country’s total fatalities to 29,005 while the caseload to 19,39,651.

Among the new deceased, eight were men and two were women.
Of the deaths, three each were reported from Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, two from Rangpur and one each from Khulna, Sylhet divisions
Meanwhile, the mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.50 per cent.
However, the recovery rate rose to 92.09 per cent with the recovery of 6,459 more patients during the 24-hour period.
On January 28, Bangladesh logged its earlier highest daily positivity rate at 33.37 per cent reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.
On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.

The country reported first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.
Rooppur N-plant: 5 Russians die in 11 days, probe ordered
As many as five Russian employees of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant have died in the past 11 days, prompting the police to initiate a probe.
On January 28, Barcenko Alexei, 48, died during treatment at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, while Shakiroff Alexei, 40, passed away in his sleep on February 2.
Three days later, Schukin Pavel, a 48-year-old mechanical engineer of sub-contractor firm Trest Rossem, died at the same upazila medical facility after suddenly falling sick.

Tolmasoff Vassiliev, 59, another employee of another sub-contractor firm, died on the stairs of his 14th floor flat at a tower in the Green City housing project for the Russian officials of the power plant the same day.
On Sunday, Vortonikov Alexander, a 45-year-old employee of Nikim Atomstroya firm of the plant, was found dead in his flat at the same residential complex.
Asadussaman, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi police station, said that the autopsy reports of the deceased Russian nationals "did not show anything suspicious".

"One of them used to have drugs, while another had a cardiac ailment. However, we are probing all the deaths," he said.
Two siblings die in Ctg house fire
Two siblings were charred to death while asleep in a fire that gutted their house in Chattogram on Monday night, officials said on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Minhaz Uddin (12) and his sister Ruhi Aktar (2.5), both children of Mohammad Idris Mia.
The fire broke out around 10pm at the house of Idris in ward- 4 of Saral union in the district's Banshkhali upazila when the family was fast asleep, officials said.

The fire soon engulfed two adjacent houses in the locality, according to officials.
'The fire originated from an electrical short-circuit and by the time the firefighting unit reached the spot, both the children were dead," said Nuru Bashar, team leader of Bashkhali fire service.
Dipak Kumar Singha, a sub-inspector at the Banshkhali police station, said that the police were alerted about the deaths.

Father, son die from electrocution in Tangail
A 65-year-old man and his young son both died from electrocution at Gosai Joair village in Sadar upazila of Tangail district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Ainuddin Mia and his son Anwar Hossain, 33, of the village.
Anwar Hossain bought a battery-run autorickshaw and kept the battery charging for the whole night, said local UP member Habibur Rahman.

When he removed the plug of the battery around 4 am, Anwar got electrocuted.
Ainuddin also came in touch with electric wire while he tried to save the life of his son.
Hearing screams of the two, Anwar’s mother rushed in and switched off the main switch of the house and took them to local hospital where the doctors declared the duo dead.
