4 arrested in Chandpur over gang-rape of teenager
Four men were arrested at Gandharbyopur village in Haziganj upazila of Chandpur district over gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl.The crime occurred on Monday night, said Zubayer Syed, officer-in-charge of Haziganj Police Station.Police arrested Nimai Chandra Das, 24; Momin, 32; Mamun, 30; and Mizan, 45 in this connection.A complaint was lodged with Haziganj Police Station on Tuesday.According to the complaint, Nimai developed a relationship with the girl, hailing from Darbeshpur village in Ramganj upazila.Nimai invited the girl to his village. On Monday, Nimai took the girl to his village.At one point, Nimai along with three other men took the girl to an abandoned place and raped her.Hearing screams, locals rescued the girl and informed police who arrested the four men.The arrestees were sent to jail after being produced before the court on Tuesday, said OC.The girl is now undergoing treatment at Chandpur General Hospital.
12 Jamaat men arrested from meeting in Feni party office
Police arrested 12 activists and leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami charging them with hatching a subversive plan from their office in Feni town on Saturday.
The arrestees--Mohammad Shafiullah, Mostafa Azim, Mohammad Shah Alam, Abu Taher, Abdul Matin, Md Salahuddin, Alamgir, Jakir Hossain, Abdul Motaleb, Monir Hossain, Md Mohiuddin and Md Israphil, are residents of several upazilas of the district.
Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Feni Model Police Station, said they conducted a drive at the office of the Jamaat on Shanti Company Road on getting tipped-off.

The 12 Jamaat-men were held with five cocktails and Jihadhi books from the office while they were holding a clandestine meeting to carry out subversive activities, he said.
They were handed over to the court after filing a case upon interrogation, the OC said.

Turning down the claim by the police, district Jamaat Ameer Master Shamsuddin said their party-men were holding a meeting on the labour welfare foundation.
The allegation of subversive planning is ridiculous, he said, adding that he demanded immediate release of the arrested activists and leaders.
31 Jamaat-Shibir men arrested over ‘sabotage attempt’ in Dinajpur
Police on Sunday arrested 31 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chattra Shibir from a procession they brought out as part of their ‘ongoing anti-government movement’ in station area of Dinajpur town.
Leaders and activists of different areas of Jamaat-Shibir brought out a protest procession around 7 am demanding the release of party leaders and activists from , said Tanvirul Islam Tanvir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali police station.

Police arrested 31 people when they tried to escape on a bus sensing police presence.
The leaders and activists from various areas including Chiribandar Debiganj were gathering in the town and trying to carry out sabotage, said the OC.
The police also seized the bus, he added.

Legal action is underway against the detainees in this regard, said OC Tanvir.
4 arrested over murder of trader, assistant in Dhaka
Police arrested four members of a gang on Thursday for their suspected involvement in killing a local raw material trader and his assistant after kidnapping from the capital’s Lalbagh area .
The arrestees were identified as Nuruzzaman Hawladar, 40, Md A Aziz Shikder, 34, Hafez Choukidar, 46, and Delwar Hossain Molla Delu, 35, said a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) press release on Thursday.
They were all arrested during drives at different places in the capital and Barishal district, said police.

Plastic raw materials trader Jewel Shikder’s father registered a general diary on the night of December 15 at Chawkbazar police station over his son going missing.
After that police started a shadow investigation and drive and traced last location of Jewel and his assistant Morshed Alam at Mehediganj upazila in Barishal.
Later DMP Chawkbazar police conducted a drive to rescue the victims but managed to arrest the four kidnappers.
In primary questioning the arrestees confessed to kidnapping Jewel and Morshed for snatching money.

They took the victims in the middle of the Meghna River in Barishal by a fishing trawler and strangled them after getting the money. They confirmed their death by drowning them in the river, said police.
A case has been filed in this regard at Chawkbazar model police station.
11 female Jamaat activists arrested in Chandpur; Court sent all to jail
Police arrested 11 female members of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur on Sunday night during a secret meeting.
They were arrested from 11th floor of a multistoried building at Paschim Bazar, said Md Nazrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Hajiganj police station.
A Chandpur court on Monday sent all the arrestees to jail said the OC.

OC Nazrul said the house owned by a retired deputy assistant agriculture officer was under surveillance on suspicion and the Jamaat members were arrested on allegation of planning anti-state activities.
The owner however remained absconding, he said.
Police seized some materials like books, leaflets, and invitation cards for spreading Jamaat’s ideology during the arrest.

Chandpur town unit Ameer(chief) of Jamaat Shahjahan Mia said the arrestees were all Jamaat members but they were not planning any anti-state activities rather they went to attend a family programme.
Four arrested in Khulna over gang rape of woman
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-6 have arrested four people in connection with the gang rape of a woman in Khulna city on Wednesday night.
The arrestees are auto-rickshaw drivers Belal Morol and Azizur Rahman Mithu, bakery worker Jihad Munshi and Md Rasel, a student.
The couple was returning to their Phulbari Gate home from Bypass area in the city around 8pm.
The accused ridding on two motorbikes obstructed the couple searched them introducing them as officials of administration.

Then they took the woman and her husband to an abandoned house where they blindfolded the husband raped her for around three hours.
The alleged rapists videoed them the whole thing and threatened them not to disclose this.
Pahan Chakma, senior assistant superintendent of the Rab-6, said they came to know the incident from their sources and asked the couple to come further to Khulna Medical College Hospital where they disclosed the incident.

The victim is now undergoing treatment at One-stop Crisis Center of the KMCH, he said.
Police: Jamaat chief Shafiqur Rahman arrested
The Counter Terrorism & Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested the ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Shafiqur Rahman early hours of Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner (media) of DMP Faruq Hossain confirmed it to UNB but he didn’t disclose the details of the arrest and the allegations against the Jamaat ameer.
Acting Secretary General of Jamaat ATM Masum in a statement claimed the arrest was made around 1 am from his residence in the capital.

He condemned and protested the arrest.
He said the government cannot stop the ongoing political protests in the country by such arrests. “The people’s movement cannot be stopped by creating fear, attack and filing cases,” he said in his statement.
Masum urged the authority to immediately give unconditional release of arrested Jamaat leaders including Shafiqur and leaders of other political parties.
On December 11, the ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami announced a 10-point demand largely overlapping with the BNP's, and declared a mass rally on December 24 just after the BNP's announcement.

Man arrested for raping minor girl after abduction in Ctg
Police arrested a man on Sunday night for the abduction and rape of a minor girl at Lohagara upazila in Chattogram.
The arrestee was identified as Jobair, 26, son of Kaykobad Chowdhury from Adhunagar Chowdhury Para area in the upazila.
Police arrested Jobair from Khan Hat railway station after the rape survivor’s family filed a case with police, Md Atiqur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Lohagara police station.

According to the case complaint, accused Jobair used to tease the girl often on her way to the madrasah and on November 29, he and his two or three associates abducted her.
Jobair allegedly raped the girl several times in a cottage and left the girl at Adhunagar bus stand area on December 2.
The arrestee has been produced before court today and the girl is being given treatment at one stop emergency service center at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital.
Mirza Fakhrul, Abbas shown arrested in Paltan police station case: DB Chief
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas have been shown arrested in a case filed with Paltan police station over Wednesday’s clash that left one dead and several injured.
“They have been arrested in the case filed under the Explosive Substance Act at Paltan police station on Thursday after questioning,” said Harun Or Rashid Chief of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police at a press briefing in the capital Friday.

They will be produced before court today and a remand will be sought to interrogate them, he said.
They were accused of instigating, planning and directing an attack on police, crude bomb explosion, destroying public property and lives, he added
When asked whether any other central BNP leader is under surveillance he said,” If anyone else is involved with such crimes we will take action against them too. We are keeping an eye on everything.”
Questioned about the BNP’s rally venue he said BNP is now proposing Golapbagh field but no decision was taken yet in this regard.
In the early hours of Friday, BNP’s Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan said that a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police picked up Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas from their homes in separate raids in the capital city.
Earlier on Thursday night, a BNP delegation had a six-hour meeting with the DMP commissioner where they talked about holding the rally on Saturday (December 10) either at Kamalapur Stadium or Mirpur Bangla College ground.
Later, Abbas with some BNP leaders visited the two venues.

On Wednesday, a Swechchasebak Dal leader was killed and around 50 others were injured in a clash between police and the BNP activists in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office ahead of its December 10 rally.
On Thursday, a Dhaka court sent 445 BNP leaders and activists to jail in two cases filed over Wednesday’s violence.
Party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Dhaka south city unit convener Abdus Salam and Publication Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie were among the top leaders who were sent to jail, pending further legal procedures.
1 arrested involving murder of 7-yr-old girl in Ctg
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Friday arrested a man for his alleged involvement in kidnapping and murdering a seven-year-old girl 10 days after she went missing in the city.
Illias Khan, PBI inspector in Chattogram, said that Abir Ali, an ex-tenant of the victim’s family, abducted the girl on November 15 for ransom on her way to a mosque where she used to learn Arabic at Bandartila area in Chattogram.
Ali strangled the girl to death and later he chopped her into six pieces after taking to a residence on Akmal Ali Road in the city. He subsequently dumped the body wrapped with two bags at a beach in the city’s Kattali area, the PBI officer said.

“We are trying to recover the body from the beach and seize the sharp weapons used in the killing,” he said.
The victim’s father, Sohel Rana, lodged a general diary at the local police station after she went missing, police said.
