Army Chief distributes food aid among 5,000 destitute people
Army Chief General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed on Wednesday distributed essential food items among 5000 jobless and destitute people at Khulna stadium.
The assistance was a part of Bangladesh Army program, "Operation Covid Sheild-Phase-2”, undertaken to mitigate the economic hardship of people during the coronavirus lockdown.

The beneficiaries received five kgs of rice, three kgs of pulses, three kgs of flour, three kgs of potatoes, two kgs of sugar, two liters of edible oil and one kg of salt each.
The army chief called upon all to work in a united way in tackling the pandemic.
Nurul Anwar, Khulna divisional commissioner and high ranking military and civil officials, among others, were present on the occasion.

Army personnel of the 55 Army Infantry Division have been deployed in Khulna division and 11 districts of Dhaka division to coordinate relief distribution programmes, operate medical teams and patrol alongside the civil administration since July 1, the beginning of nationwide stringent lockdown.
Shafiuddin Ahmed appointed chief of Bangladesh Army
The government has appointed Lieutenant General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed as the new chief of Bangladesh Army.
The Ministry of Defence issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday.
It said Shafiuddin, now serving as Quartermaster General at the Army Headquarters, will be promoted to the rank of General on June 24 as he will take over charge as the Army chief for the next three years.

"Bangladesh Army's BA-2496 Lieutenant General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, OSP, NDU, PSC, Quartermaster General has been given the appointment as the new chief of Bangladesh Army from June 24 afternoon for the next three years," the notification reads.
He will replace current army chief General Aziz Ahmed.

Army chief in Zambia delivers lecture on military diplomacy
Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh Army General Aziz Ahmed, who is now in Zambia on an official trip, Wednesday gave lectures on military diplomacy to the trainee officers and also shared examples from Bangladesh Army.
Earlier, he visited various training facilities at Zambia Defense Services Command and Staff College and met with Brigadier General Stephen Simusandu, commandant of the college. They discussed ways to strengthen other military training, including staff colleges, in the two countries.
Army Chief leaves for Zambia Friday
Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed will leave Dhaka for Zambia on an official visit on Friday at the invitation of Zambian Army Chief Lt Gen William Sikazwe .
General Aziz Ahmed will lead a 6-member delegation of Bangladesh Army during this visit, says an Inter Service Public Relation (ISPR) media release on Thursday.
He is scheduled to visit various military installations and training institutes during the official trip.
Besides, he will also visit a parade at the Arakan Barracks in Lusaka, Zambia and also place floral wreath at the mausoleum.
General Aziz Ahmed will also pay courtesy call on Zambian Defense Minister, its Army Chief, Air Force Chief and Commandant of Zambian National Service (ZNS).
During the meetings, he will discuss further strengthening the relations between the armies of the two countries and mutual cooperation.
General Aziz will also visit Zambia Defense Service Command and Staff College and deliver a lecture there. The army chief will return home on May 6.
