Local AL leader killed in Jashore
A local Awami League leader was allegedly hacked to death by a group of assailants in Jashore on Monday evening.
The deceased was identified as Thandu Mia, 44, member of Patibila Union Parishad ward-4 and son of Sirajul Islam of Patibila village in Chougacha upazila.
Six more people sustained injuries in the attack. They have been identified as Mominur Rahman, 44, Abdul Hamid, 45, Wasim Sarkar, 32, Tito, 32, Abu Bakar Siddique, 40, and Mokbul Hossain, 35, from the same village.

According to Mokbul and other witnesses, all of them were sitting at a tea stall at Patibila Bazar around 7pm when some 10 people, including Tito, Ibrahim, Selim, Tota and Ashraf, attacked them with sharp weapons and sticks over an old enmity.
Locals rushed the injured to Chougacha Upazila Health Complex. Thandu, Mominur and Abdul were later shifted to Jashore General Hospital, where doctors pronounced Thandu’s death.
Saiful Alam, officer-in-charge of Chougacha police station, said, "Efforts are on to nab the accused."

7-year old hacked to death for only Tk 10 in Chuadanga
A seven- year old boy was hacked to death in Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga district on Saturday allegedly for stealing only Taka 10.
The deceased is Yamin Hossain, son of Selim Reza of Joyrampur village in Mujibnagar upazila.
The incident occurred at 2 am at Kanaidanga village in Karpasdanga upazila.
According to locals, Yamin used to live with his grandfather Abdur Razzaque in Kanaidanga village after his parents’ separation.
On Saturday, Yamin and his brother Emon were playing with their friends in a mango orchard near their house.

Meanwhile, Zahid Hasan,16, son of ward-7 UP member Ashadul Islam came and gave Tk 30 to Yamin to buy some puffed rice from shop.
As Yamin could not return the remaining Tk 10 after bringing the puffed rice Zahid got angry and tied up Yamin with a tree and started beating him.
Scared by the incident, Emon rushed to his house and called family members but when they reached the spot they found the throat- slit body of Yamin while Zahid fled.
“The throat-slit body of a boy was recovered but the sharp weapon used in the murder could not be seized yet,” said Ferdous Wahid, Officer-in-Charge of Damurhuda model police station.
He said the body was sent for an autopsy and efforts are on to arrest Zahid.
Woman hacked to death in Pabna; Youth held
A woman was stabbed to death and her husband injured in an attack by a youth at Munshidpur village in Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sharmin Shila, 32, wife of Ranaur Rahman of the village.
Police arrested Sumon Ali, 30, son of Asgor Ali of Soraikandi village, from the spot.

Firoz Kabir, Additional Superintendent of Police of Ishwardi Circle said the couple used to live in a flat on the 3rd floor of the house.
On Tuesday morning, Sumon attacked the woman with a sharp weapon and chopped her indiscriminately, leaving her dead on the spot, he said.
He also hit Shila’s husband Ranaur when he came forward to save his wife.
Later, locals caught the attacker and informed police.

Police said they recovered the body and arrested the attacker from the spot. They also took the injured to a hospital.
The reason behind the attack was not clear, the Additional SP said. “The attacker might have killed the woman over previous enmity”.
Pre-polls violence: 1 hacked to death in Brahmanbaria
A person was hacked to death ahead of the Ratanpur union parishad election in Brahmanbaria’s Nabinagar upazila.
The deceased was identified as Masud Mia, a resident of Khagatua village and a supporter of independent chairman candidate VP Maruf.
It was learned that Masud was hacked by opponents including advocate Rob Mia, Shafiq Mia, Alam Mia, Fazu and Liton Mia on Thursday morning when he stopped at a tea shall with his niece on their way to the hospital.
Sharmin Akhter, the niece of the deceased, said that they were going to see a doctor in Brahmanbaria early in the morning. When they stopped by a tea stall at Khagatua Bazar, some people came with sharp weapons, led by boat symbol supporters Rob Mia, Shafiq Mia, Alam Mia, Fazu and Liton Mia.

“My uncle was hacked twice by his opponents, once at the spot and then in a CNG autorickshaw,” she said.
Masud was rushed to Nabinagar Sadar Hospital in critical condition. As his condition deteriorated, he was being taken to Dhaka and died on the way.
Independent chairman candidate VP Maruf claimed that Masud had been brutally killed as part of the planned attack on his supporters.
Meanwhile, boat symbol candidate Syed Zahid Hossain Shakil said the issue must get a fair trial. "None of my activists and supporters were involved in the incident. It occurred due to their previous dispute," he said.

Nabinagar police officer-in-charge Aminur Rashid claimed it to be an isolated incident.
Police have been deployed at the spot. Legal action will be taken on the basis of the complaint, he said
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ekramul Siddique said legal action would be taken on the basis of an investigation.
Farmer hacked to death in Jhenaidah
A farmer was hacked to death by some miscreants at Digharpara village in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah district in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Rezaul Islam,38, son of Abul Kashem from the Digharpara village.
According to locals, they rushed to the yard of Rezaul’s house around 3:30 am hearing screams and found him lying in a pool of blood.

Later he was sent to Jashore Sadar Hospital where doctors announced him dead, they said.
Rezaul’s son Apon Islam said he woke up hearing screams of his parents and peeped through the window only to see some people hitting his father.
Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj police station Md Mahfuzur Rahman Mia said the motive behind the murder will be known after investigation.

Bogura youth hacked to death in a clash
A youth was hacked to death in a clash between two groups over a past dispute at Malgram Dakkhinpara in Bogura on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Jobaer Hasan, 20, son of Tulu Mia of the area.

According to local sources, rival youths stabbed a young man named Sabbir Hossain in front of the house of former member Badsha Mia in Malgram Dakshin Para around 10:30 pm on Sunday. Due to this, the people of Sabbir found Jobaer in the area around 11 pm and stabbed him.
Later, locals rescued Jobaer and admitted him to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police arrested four people for questioning in this regard.

Bogura Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Faisal Mahmud said there was already a dispute between Sabbir and Jobair. Police suspect the incident took place over his stabbing.
The body has been kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.
