Heavy rains may trigger landslides in Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, 3 hill districts
Bangladesh Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Chattogram, Sylhet and Barishal divisions that may trigger landslides in five districts.
According to a special bulletin of Met office, Chattogram, Sylhet and Barishal divisions are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall as the very severe cyclonic storm Mocha over east central Bay and adjoining area moved North-Northeastwards over the same area.

Due to very heavy rainfall landslides may occur in the hilly regions of Cox’s Bazar, Bandarbans, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Chattogram, it said.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has predicted rain or thundershowers in all eight divisions, including Dhaka, in 24 hours starting from 9 am today (May 13, 2023).
“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Barishal and Chattogram divisions; at many places over Dhaka, Khulna and Sylhet divisions; and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions,” said a special bulletin of the Met Office.
Mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping over the districts of Dhaka, Tangail, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Chattogram, Rangamati, Cumilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Bandarban, Khulna, Jashore, Chuadanga, Patuakhali and Bhola and it may abate.

Day temperature may fall by 1-3 degree C and night temperature may fall by 2-4 degree C over the country.
Meanwhile, the very severe cyclonic storm Mocha over central Bay and adjoining southeast Bay area moved north-northeast-wards and now lies over east central Bay and adjoining area -- as of 6 am on Saturday.
It is likely to intensify further, move in a north-northeasterly direction and may cross Cox’s Bazar-North Myanmar coast by 6 pm Sunday (May 14).

Low pressure area intensifies into well-marked low over Bay: Met office
The low pressure area over Southeast Bay and adjoining South Andaman Sea has intensified into a well-marked low over the same area.
“It is likely to intensify further. Trough of low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area,” said a Met office bulletin on Tuesday (May 09, 2023).

Severe heat wave is sweeping Rajshahi, Netrakona, Khulna, Chuadanga and Kushtia districts and mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping other parts of Bangladesh and it may continue, it said.
Weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country with chances of rain or thunders at one or two places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
Day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country.

176 dead, many more missing after Congo floods
The death toll from flash floods and landslides in eastern Congo has risen to 176, with some 100 people still missing, according to a provisional assessment given by the governor and authorities in the country's South Kivu province.
Rivers broke their banks in villages in the territory of Kalehe close to the shores of Lake Kivu. Authorities also reported scores of people injured.
South Kivu Gov. Théo Ngwabidje visited the area to see the destruction for himself, and posted on his Twitter account that the provincial government had dispatched medical, shelter and food supplies.
Several main roads to the affected area have been been made impassable by the rains, hampering the relief efforts.
President Felix Tshisekedi has declared a national day of mourning on Monday to honor the victims, and the central government is sending a crisis management team to South Kivu to support the provincial government.
Heavy rains in recent days have brought misery to thousands in East Africa, with parts of Uganda and Kenya also seeing heavy rainfall.
Flooding and landslides in Rwanda, which borders Congo, left 129 people dead earlier this week.
Rains likely in Mymensingh, Sylhet; Heat wave to prevail in Dhaka, other districts
Rain or thunder showers is likely at one or two places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places in 24 hours from 9 am on Wednesday, said the Bangladesh Metrological Department .
However, the prevailing heat wave condition in different parts of the country is likely to continue, it said.
According to the bulletin, “Severe heat wave is sweeping over Dinajpur, Rajshshi, Pabna and Chuadanga districts and mild to moderate heat wave is lashing Dhaka and Barishal divisions and the rest part of Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and the districts of Panchagarh, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Moulvibazar, Rangamati and Bandarban and it may continue.”

The country’s maximum temperature was recorded at 42 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi on Tuesday while country’s minimum temperature was recorded at 22.4 degrees Celsius in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar district on Wednedsay.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
A trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay.

Khichuri Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup basmati rice, 1 cup moong dal, 3 tablespoons Ghee/2.5 tablespoon oil, 1-inch cinnamon, 2 green cardamoms, 3 cloves, 1 tej patta, 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1-inch grated ginger, ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, ½ teaspoon red chili powder, 2 tomatoes, (chopped), 1 green chili (chopped), 2 potatoes, ½ cup cauliflower and ½ cup green peas, ½ carrots, salt (as required), 5 cups water
Instructions
First, wash the rice and soak it for 20 to 30 minutes and then drain. Meanwhile, roast the dal till they turn light golden. Then wash the dal and drain. Now take a pan and heat ghee/ oil and fry the whole spices. Add the grated ginger and fry for 5 to 6 seconds. Mix turmeric, and red chili powder and cook for 2 to 3 seconds. Add vegetables and cook for a minute.
Now add the moong dal ( roasted, cleaned) and for 2 minutes. Next, add the soaked rice and mix well. Add the water and salt and coon on a pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistles on medium heat. When the pressure settles down on its own, open the lid and the khichuri warm with baingan bhaja or fried egg.

Masala Tea Recipes
Ingredients
2 cups water, 4 teaspoons sugar, 2 teaspoons black tea leaves, ¼ cup milk/ as per taste, 1-inch cinnamon, 2 to 3 green cardamoms, 2 cloves, 1-inch ginger
Instructions
First, crush-coarsely the cinnamon, green cardamoms, and cloves. Now heat water in a pot and add the crushed spices when the water boils. Boil for 2 to 3 minutes and then add the sugar. Next mix 2 teaspoons of tea leaves. Boil for 1 minute. However, if you prefer a strong tea (intense), then boil it for some extra minutes. Add milk and boil for two minutes. Now your tea is ready. Serve with snacks or cookies.

Coriander Chutney Review
Ingredients
1 cup chopped coriander leaves, 2 teaspoons chopped green chilies, 1 chopped ginger, ½ teaspoon roasted cumin powder, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 2 to 3 pinches salt, ¼ teaspoon chaat masala, 1 to 2 tablespoons water.
Instructions
First, take a blender and add the chopped coriander leaves, chopped ginger, and green chilies. You can add or subtract green chilies according to your and your family's taste. Add lemon juice, roasted cumin powder, black salt, and chaat masala. Add water and blend as long as the mixture is smooth. Add more salt or lemon juice if you feel required.

Singara Recipe Review
Ingredients:
For the singhara dough
1 cup Flour, 2 tablespoons Oil, ½ teaspoon Kalonji seeds, ½ teaspoon salt, 50 ml water (room temperature)
For the Bhaja masala
¼ teaspoon cumin seeds, ¼ teaspoon fennel seeds, ½ teaspoon coriander seeds, 1 clove, 1 small cardamom, ¼ inch cinnamon stick
Other ingredients
2 potatoes, ¼ cup peas, 1-2 green chilies, ½ tablespoon ginger,1 teaspoon panch phoran, 2 dry red chilies, 2 tablespoons peanuts, ¼ cup water, 1 teaspoon sugar, ½ teas salt, 2 tablespoons oil, Oil (to deep fry the Singara).

Instructions:
First, prepare the dough with the given ingredients and cover the dough nicely with a wet cloth and keep it at rest for 1 hour.
For the bhaja masala
Now take a pan and fry allspice until a nice smell comes up. Put them on a plate to make them cool. Then grind the spices and keep them aside.
For the potato filling
Heat oil in a pan and then add peanuts and fry for 1-2 minutes and remove to a plate. Now add red chilies, panch phoran, and then grated ginger, and green chilies and cook them for 1-2 minutes. Add potatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes. Mix turmeric powder, and salt and mix well. Now water and mix nicely and cook as long as the potatoes become tender. Add peas, sugar, fried peanuts, and finally the bhaja masala and mix it properly. Remove it from the stove when it is done.
For shaping the singhara
Divide the dough into 4 equal parts and make flat dough balls with them. Roll the ball into a 1.5-2.0 mm thick oval-shaped chapati. Cut the chapati horizontally. Now fill each chapati with the cooked filling and seal the sides. Deep fry each singhara for 10 minutes or till golden brown. Serve warm with sauce.

Dry weather likely in country over 24 hours
Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy skies over the country in 24 hours, starting from 9 am today, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
According to the daily weather bulletin, “Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy skies over the country — with chances of rain or thunder showers at one or two places over Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.”
Light fog may occur at the river basins of the country from late night to morning.
Night temperature may fall slightly and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged, the weather bulletin said.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 15.3 degrees Celsius in Rajathat upazila of Kurigram district and the highest temperature was recorded at 34.0 degrees Celsius in Rangamati district.

“Light rains or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur at one or two places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions,” the department said in its bulletin on Wednesday.
Weather may remain mainly dry in these divisions, with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, it said.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.
The mercury reached 34.7 degrees Celsius – the highest – in Bhola, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 19.3 degrees in Tetulia of Rangpur division.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from the northern part of Bangladesh. Conditions are favourable for further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the remaining part of Bangladesh, as per the bulletin.
More rains to lash Bangladesh in 24 hours
The weather department has predicted more rains across the country in the next 24 hours, with monsoon being fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over the North Bay.
“Light to moderate rains or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lighting flashes are likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur and Khulna divisions and at one or two places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy falls at isolated places over the country,” the department said in its bulletin on Thursday.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
The mercury reached 36.0 degrees Celsius – the highest – in Rajshahi, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.3 degrees in Tetulia.
Meanwhile, the low pressure area over the westcentral Bay and adjoining Andhra coast persists. The axis of monsoon trough runs through Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh, it added.

More rains are likely to drench Bangladesh in 24 hours commencing 9 am on Monday as the low pressure area over North Bay and adjoining central Bay now lies over Northwest Bay and adjoining West central Bay, said the weather department.
“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes is likely at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” said a Met Office bulletin.

However, the rainfall activity may decrease in next three days.
Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.
Dhaka recorded 12mm rainfall in 24 hours till 6am on Monday.
The weather office recorded the highest 134 mm rainfall in M.Court of Chattogram division during this period.
The mercury reached 34.0 degrees Celsius – the highest – in Tentulia of Rangpur division while the minimum temperature was recorded at 19.7 degrees in Kumarkhali of Khulna division.

Meanwhile, the axis of monsoon trough runs through East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh.
Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over North Bay, as per the bulletin.
