Youth crushed under train in city
A 22-year-old year youth was killed after being hit by a train at Kamalapur TT Para rail gate on Tuesday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The train hit him while he was walking near a rail track, leaving him dead on the spot around 6 am, said sub-inspector of Bangladesh Railway Police Anwar Hossain.
Police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
3 die as train hits car in Dinajpur
Three persons were killed after their car was hit by a speeding train at an unmanned level crossing in the Ghoraghat area of Dinajpur's Birampur upazila early on Wednesday, police said.Sumon Kumar Mahanta, officer-in-charge of Birampur Police Station, said that Dinajpur-bound Kurigram Express crashed into the private car around 6.50am, leaving the three occupants, including its driver, dead on the spot.

4 die as train hits auto-rickshaw in Nilphamari
Four women were killed and four others injured when a train hit an auto-rickshaw carrying them at an unauthorised level crossing in the district's Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Shefali Begum, 35, wife of Ashraf Ali, Chaya Banu, 26, wife of Belal Hossain, Ruma Akter, 25, wife of Mosharraf Hossain and Minara Akter, 22, wife of Arman Hossain. They all were workers of Uttara EPZ.
The victims were residents of Daroani Dhanipara village in Sadar upazila.

Abdur Rahman Biswas, officer-in-charge of Saidpur Railway police station, said the Chilahati-bound Simanta Express from Khulna crashed into the battery-run three wheeler in Daroani area around 7 am, leaving one dead on the spot and seven others injured.
The injured were taken to a local hospital where doctors declared two of them dead.
The hospital authorities later referred three of the injured people to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, and another victim died on the way to the medical facility.
Police suspected that the accident occurred due to poor visibility caused by fog while crossing the unauthorised level-crossing.
Train accidents in Bangladesh
Train accidents are common in Bangladesh, many at unmanned level crossings and some due to the poor condition of tracks.

According to data provided by the Bangladesh Railway, in August 2019, only 466 gates of its 1,412 level crossings have gatemen.
In November 2019, a deadly collision occurred between Dhaka-bound Turna Nishita Express and Chattogram-bound Udayan Express on the Dhaka-Chattogram route near the Mandbagh railway station in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria.
The train crash had left at least 16 people dead and over 100 others injured.
At least 113 people, including 26 women and 11 children, were killed in railway accidents between January 1 and June 30 last year, according to a report, jointly prepared by the Green Club of Bangladesh (GCB) and the National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways.
3 dead as train hits three-wheeler in Chapainawabganj
Three people were killed when a train hit a three-wheeler at a level crossing at Alinagar Hazirmor in Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Monday morning.
The deceased are Fulchan, son of late Garibulla, Sheher Ali, son of late Rais Uddin, and Naimul, son of Manik Chand of Chapainawabganj district.

Chapainawabganj railway station master Shahidul Alam said the Ishwardi-bound train crashed into the three-wheeler while passing the unguarded level crossing in Alinagar Hajirmor area, half kilometer off the station, around 8am, leaving three passengers of the three-wheeler dead on spot.
On information, police and fire service members recovered the body from the spot, the station master said.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of the district AKM Galib Khan provided financial assistance of Tk 25,000 each to the families of the victims.

AKM Galib Khan said the train accident occurred at Hajirmor which is an unauthorised level crossing.
"I reported the incident to the Divisional Commissioner. A rail gate will be built here soon," he added.
9 dead in India train accident
The death toll in the India rail tragedy rose to nine Friday morning, as rescuers called off the search for survivors in the wreckage of the train that derailed in the eastern state of West Bengal Thursday evening.
As many as 12 coaches of the Guwahati-Bikaner Express came off the rails at 5pm (local time) on Thursday near Maynaguri town of Bengal's Jalpaiguri district. Some of the coaches even overturned in the impact.
Apart from the nine deaths, some 50 people sustained injuries in the accident, an Indian Railways official told UNB in Delhi. "All the injured, including the serious ones, are being treated at different hospitals."

Jalpaiguri district magistrate Moumita Basu told the local media that rescuers searched all coaches of the ill-fated train for survivors and bodies through darkness and thick fog."We sent generators to light up the site."
Local TV channels beamed footage of the rescue operations and people searching for their missing family members at hospitals and the crash site.
In a statement, the Indian Railways said the train was carrying 1,053 passengers from the western state of Rajasthan to Assam in the northeast when it derailed in Bengal. It was running three hours behind schedule.
Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that he was "personally monitoring" the situation. "We will fulfill all of our duties."
Indian President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted to say that they were deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the accident.

"The derailment of coaches of the Bikaner-Guhawati Express near New Maynaguri, West Bengal is distressing. My thoughts and prayers are with the affected passengers and their families. I wish speedy recovery to the injured," Kovind said.
Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “Spoke to Railways Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw and took stock of the situation in the wake of the train accident in West Bengal. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly.”
"Senior Officers of the State Government, DM/SP/IG North Bengal are supervising rescue and relief operations. Those injured will receive medical attention, as early as possible," Mamata tweeted.
The Indian Railways said that a senior official would lead the probe into the fatal train crash and fix accountability.
The Indian Railways run over 12,000 trains across the country, ferrying nearly 23 million passengers daily. But train accidents are not uncommon in India and are attributed to the ailing rail infrastructure.
Teen wearing headphones killed by speeding train in Kurigram
A 15-year-old boy playing a game on his cellphone wearing headphones was killed after being hit by a train in Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram district on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Russel, son of Majid Mia of Donibazar village.

Raju Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Rajarhat Police Station, said the Dhaka-bound ‘Rangpur Express’ hit the boy sitting on the railway track around 7.30 pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the local hospital morgue.
Accident halts train communications on Dhaka-Ctg route
Rail communications on Dhaka-Chattogram route remained cut off after a Dhaka-bound train hit a lorry at SKM Jute Mills level crossing in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district on Tuesday night.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chattogram Railway Station, Mohammad Nazim Uddin said the accident occurred when the Dhaka-bound ‘Turna Nishitha’ train, which left Chattogram at night, collided head-on with the lorry.
Railway authorities are working to restore the train service on the route, he added.
3 dead as train crashes into bus at N’ganj level-crossing
Three people were killed, including a 7-year-old, and at least 20 others were injured when a train hit a bus stuck at a level-crossing on Nawab Sirajuddaula Road near Narayanganj railway station on Sunday.
The unidentified child body, missing a leg, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the doctors announced his death at 8:30 pm, said Bacchu Mia, the in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
It means all three of the confirmed dead so far remain unidentified. They were all males.
Meanwhile two of the injured referred to DMCH for advanced treatment not available in the local hospitals have been admitted and are now receiving treatment according to Bacchu Mia. They include bus driver Nuru Mia, 38, and Manoranjan Saha, 40, a trader.

Witnesses said the accident occurred around 6pm when the train, which was inbound towards Narayanganj railway station, hit the Ananda Poribahan bus carrying 10-15 passengers that got stuck on the level crossing due to traffic.
Police recovered two bodies from the spot, said Shah Zaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station.
Later, firefighters joined the police and started the rescue operation.
The injured were at first taken to Narayanganj General Hospital. Of them, three were sent to DMCH, one of them being the child declared dead, and six to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in critical condition for advanced treatment.
Rail communication on the Dhaka-Narayanganj route resumed after the train line was cleared, the OC added.

Meanwhile, Humayun, a shopkeeper in the area, said the rail gate could not be pulled down due to makeshift shops that have sprung up alongside the level crossing.
Four teens crushed to death by speeding train in Nilphamari
Four teenagers playing near a railway track were crushed to death by a speeding train in Nilphamari's Sadar upazila early on Wednesday morning.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. But all of them were boys aged between 12 and 14 years, police said.
The accident occurred around 7am when the four teenagers were playing near the railway track in the Boubazar area of the upazila.

"Rajshahi-bound Titumir Express hit the boys, leaving them dead on the spot," said Lutfur Rahman, the officer-in-charge of Nilphamari Government Railway Police.

Train service with Natore resumes after 5 hrs of disruption
The rail link of the country with Natore was disrupted for over five hours following a collision between a truck and a train at Tebaria level crossing in the northern district early Monday.
Ashok Chakraborty, stationmaster of Natore Railway Station, said a truck drove through the level crossing around 3:30 am and collided with the Kurigram Express train from Dhaka.

At least five intercity trains got stuck at various stations, including Natore station, following the accident, Ashok said.
He said the train service with the district was restored around 9 am after the truck was removed from the rail line.
However, there was no report of any casualty in the accident.
