Coronavirus: Govt imposes restrictions on movement
In an effort to prevent transmission of coronavirus and to improve the situation, the government has issued some directive imposing restrictions on the movement of people.

Planning Division Secretary Md Asadul Islam has been promoted as Senior Secretary.
The Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Tuesday.
Secretary Md Asadul Islam will be appointed as the Senior Secretary of the Planning Division, said the gazette notification.

General holidays to be extended until May 30: State Minister
The government is extending the ongoing general holidays until May 30 to curb the transmission of coronavirus as it continues to claim more lives and infect a larger number of people every day across Bangladesh.

Govt offices involved in providing emergency services reopen
All the ministries, divisions and their subordinate offices involved in providing emergency services will remain open on limited scale from Sunday during the extended general holidays.
Sheikh Yusuf Harun, secretary to Public Administration Ministry, told UNB on Sunday.
He also said earlier a decision was taken to keep 18 ministries open but on April 25 a letter was sent to all the ministries, divisions and their subordinate offices to keep those open on a limited scale to fulfill emergency need.
The order came into effect on Sunday, he added.
The government on April 23 extended general holidays until May 5.
On the same day, the Public Administration Ministry, said government offices at division, district and upazila levels under 18 ministries and divisions will remain open on a limited scale.
The divisional, district and upazila offices under the Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Division, Agriculture Ministry, Commerce Ministry, Food Ministry, Public Administration Ministry, Information Ministry, Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, Social Welfare Ministry, Women and Children Affairs Ministry, Shipping Ministry, Fisheries and Livestock Ministry, Health Services Division, Medical Education and Family Welfare Division, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division, Public Security Division, Security Services Division and Local Government Division were reopened on Sunday.
Meanwhile, all other government officials have been directed to stay at their respective offices mandatorily during the general holidays.
This time, factories related to medicine and export-oriented industries were allowed to run maintaining proper safety and hygiene of the workers.
On March 23, the government declared general holidays from March 26 to April 4, aiming to prevent the transmission of coronavirus. Later, the holidays were extended until May 5.
The government closed all the academic institutions and shut down transportation to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Bangladesh has so far reported 145 deaths and 5,416 coronavirus cases.
