Walton becomes title sponsor of Big 2021 grand finale
Walton has become the title sponsor of the grand finale of the Bangabandhu Innovation Grant (Big 2021).
A tripartite agreement was signed among Walton, Idea Project and Windmill Advertising in the capital Wednesday.
Abul Kalam Ahsanul Azad, the national consultant of Idea Project, Liakat Ali, deputy managing director of Walton DG-Tech Industries, Sabbir Rahman Tamim, managing director and chief executive officer of Windmill Advertising, signed the agreement.

On the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Idea Project of the ICT division arranged the competition on a virtual platform for startups and innovators.
The competition welcomed more than 7,000 startups from all over the country and 255 startups from abroad. Of them, 75 local startups were selected in two rounds.
Thirty-six startups will be selected as the winners in the final round of the competition. Each startup will receive a grant of Tk10 lakh. And the best of them in the grand finale will get the special award of "Bangabandhu Innovation Grant 2021 (Big)" and the prize of $1 lakh.

Walton launches Primo GH10
Walton Digi-Tech Industries Limited has launched its new affordable smartphone Primo GH10.
The phone has many features, including a large V-notch display, triple rear cameras, powerful RAM and ROM, an Android 11 operating system, and face unlock.
SM Rezwan Alam, the chief business officer of Walton Mobile, said the design and configurations of the smartphone have been set considering the demand and affordability of entry-level customers. "The regular price of the smartphone is Tk7,999. However, customers are getting Tk400 cashback."

The smartphone is available in three different colours – matte black, royal blue and emerald green.
Habibur Rahman Tuhin, marketing in-charge of Walton Mobile, said the new device features a 6.52-inch V-Notch HD+ IPS display with 1600X720 pixel screen resolutions. "It sports a 1.6 GHz Octa-Core ARM Cortex-A55 processor with PowerVR Rogue GE8322 GPU, Android 11 (Go Edition), 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage (expandable up to 128GB) and a 4,000mAh high capacity li-polymer battery."
Primo GH10 features triple rear autofocus cameras with PDAF and LED flash. The main camera of the device is 8MP. It has a 0.3MP depth camera along with a 0.3MP macro sensor.

The dual 4G VoLTE-supported phone has many other features including face unlock, fingerprint sensor, separate slot for micro SD card, OTA, OTG, full HD video playback, dark mode, pocket mode, screen record, smart controls, gesture navigation, auto call recorder, cast screen, WLAN hotspot, GPS with A-GPS, accelerometer (3D), light (brightness), and proximity, according to a media statement.
Walton 'Smart Fridge, Smart Maker' season-2 begins
Walton has launched the second season of its two-round video making contest "Smart Fridge, Smart Maker."
Anyone can participate in the first round of the contest and the ten best video makers will be eligible for the second round and get a reward of Tk50,000 each.

The top three contestants of the second round will get Tk3 lakh, Tk2 lakh and Tk1 lakh.
A three-member judge panel consisting of National Film Award-winning actress Kusum Sikder, Firoj Alam – senior executive director and chief marketing officer of Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd (WHIL) – and Amin Khan – senior executive director and head of brand management of WHIL – will select publishable videos.
The announcement was made at a programme in the capital Wednesday.

Each of the video contents will be judged based on 100 marks – 25 on the story, 50 on content development and 25 on the makers' social media activities.
The top 10 mark-getters will make it to the second round. Next, each of them will get Tk50,000 and a script for making another video.
In the second round, which will be held till December 2, each video content will have 100 marks – 50 on video content development and the rest on the makers' social media activities.

Walton eyes to export 10 lakh compressors to Turkey by 2023
Walton has set a target of exporting 10 lakh compressors to Turkey by 2023.
The local brand has already shipped out 2 lakh compressors to Turkey. To export 3 lakh compressors in 2022, Walton has inked another fresh deal Kargi Sogutma Isitma San Ve Tic.
Kargi is a renowned brand in Turkey that deals with import, export and marketing of hi-tech spare parts for domestic and industrial products with a comprehensive range of customer portfolios throughout the country and also abroad, especially in Europe.

Walton and Kargi signed a new deal Thursday at the five-day ISK Sodex International Trade Fair held in Istanbul from September 29 to October 2.
Walton International Business Unit President Edward Kim and Kargi Managing Director Emin Kargi signed the deal.
The ISK Sodex, which takes place every two years in Istanbul, is the world's third-largest and Eurasia's largest international trade fair for ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning technology.

Walton Director SM Mahbubul Alam said, "At the fair, businessmen from Saudi Arabia, Greece, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon and other countries met with Walton representatives and showed great interest in importing 'Made in Bangladesh' electronics and technology products, including compressors."
Walton is now exporting compressors and spare parts to countries such as Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Iraq, Turkey, Nepal, and East Timor, according to a media statement.

Walton brings Primo RX9
Walton has launched its new mid-range smartphone Primo RX9 with a quad rear camera set-up.
Also, there is a 20-megapixel selfie camera on the phone modelled as Primo RX9. The device sports many advanced features, including an all-glass design, powerful RAM, ROM and battery.
Priced at Tk16,999, the 8.3mm phone has been released in black and green colour.

Walton exports microwave oven to Romania, Hungary
Walton has started to export its "Made in Bangladesh" microwave ovens to Romania and Hungary.
Two renowned electronics and home appliance marketing enterprises of Romania and Hungary will supply the microwave ovens.
Walton Hi-Tech Industries Director Tahmina Afrose Tanna officially inaugurated the microwave oven exports to the European countries Monday at the programme "Inaugural Ceremony: Exporting Microwave Oven to Romania and Hungary" in the capital.

She said: "Export of Walton microwave ovens will be a milestone in the company's 'Vision Go Global 2030' and also facilitate its market expansion in Central and Eastern Europe."
"Twenty models of microwave ovens equipped with the latest technology are being manufactured at Walton factory. Along with meeting the local demand, we are exporting microwave ovens to different countries, including Nepal and Yemen," Walton International Business Unit Vice-President Syed Al Imran said.
"From now on, our microwave ovens will be exported to the markets of developed countries of Europe. We are working on increasing the market share of Walton microwave ovens in Europe by 2022."

Electronics products: 'Walton export rose to $14 million amid pandemic'
Walton increased its export of electronics products from $1.4 million to $14 million amid the pandemic, Golam Murshed, managing director and chief executive officer of Walton Hi-Tech Industries, said Sunday.
Murshed was addressing the closing ceremony of the 5th International Conference of Business and Economics at a city hotel.

Organised by the Faculty of Business Studies of the University of Dhaka, the theme of the conference was "Business and Economy in the New-normal Landscape," according to a media statement.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni was present as the chief guest at the programme. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman attended it as the guest of honour.

Walton launches new soundbars
Walton has launched two new soundbars under its sound device brand "Chorus."
The soundbars can be operated through a remote control system from any corner of the room.
Modelled as WSB40 and WSB120, the devices have an LCD display as a special feature.

With a capacity of 40W, 900mm length, 68mm height and 90mm width, the WSB40 model has four high-quality stereo speakers with Bluetooth, AUX, HDMI and USB play mode. The WSB120 model has 120W output power with a subwoofer added as an additional facility.
The two soundbars are retailing for Tk5,750 and Tk9,750 respectively, according to a media release.

Liakat Ali, deputy managing director of Walton Digi-Tech Industries, said: "We earlier released 3:1 speakers and Bluetooth speakers in the market. The new high-quality audio devices will allow the customers to enjoy an enhanced sound quality."
'Boosting electronics, hi-tech industry the need of the day'
Boosting the domestic electronics and hi-tech industry is highly required for achieving the government's vision of turning Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041, said Walton Hi-Tech Industries Managing Director Golam Murshed at an international summit in Switzerland.
Murshed, also the chief executive officer of Walton Hi-Tech, called for improvement in research and innovation for boosting the country's electronics and hi-tech product manufacturing industries.
He made the remarks while addressing the concluding session of the first phase of a roadshow titled "Investor summit: Bangladesh capital markets" held in Switzerland's Zurich recently.

To facilitate and encourage the non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to invest in the country's capital market, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) initiated the two-phases roadshow "The Rise of Bengal Tiger: Potentials of Trade and Investment in Bangladesh."
Murshed said: "Bangladesh is now showing successes in several fields including GDP growth, poverty alleviation, and improvement of living standards; increase in education rate, empowerment of women, foreign exchange supply, stable capital market, political stability; infrastructure and policy development."
"Using the government's industry-friendly duty and policy support, Walton has become Bangladesh's electronics giant. Beyond the country's boundaries, Walton products are being exported to around 40 countries."

The investor summit has been attended by high-level delegates from Bangladesh and Switzerland, along with business conglomerates and investors.
Also, the NRBs, foreign investors and institutional investors in Switzerland joined the summit.
Earlier, the roadshows were also held in four cities in the US and UAE this year. Walton is one of the partners of the US and Switzerland roadshows. The upcoming roadshows, led by the BSEC, will be held in Russia and the UK.

'Walton ahead of others in protecting ozone layer'
Walton is ahead of other private sector players in protecting the environment, speakers said this at a seminar in the capital Saturday.
The Department of Environment and Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited jointly organised the seminar to mark the "World Ozone Day," celebrated internationally on September 16 every year to raise awareness against ozone layer depletion and global warming.
This year's theme for the international day was "Montreal Protocol – keeping us, our food, and vaccines cool."

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin attended the seminar as chief guest and Walton Hi-Tech Industries Chairman SM Nurul Alam Rezvi and Vice-Chairman SM Shamsul Alam as special guests.
Speakers at the event said the ozone layer is a blessing for the world and animals. It is the filter of the earth. But the use of harmful chemicals and gases has been depleting the layer.
The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed in 1987. Bangladesh is one of the signatories to the protocol.

Under the protocol, the country is working on controlling the use of about 100 ozone-depleting substances.
Speaking as the chief guest, Shahab Uddin appreciated the various initiatives taken by Walton to protect the ozone layer.
Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Begum Habibun Nahar said, "Walton is ahead of others in protecting the ozone layer and the environment."
