‘Drug peddler’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’
A suspected drug peddler was killed on Thursday in a gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members at Ratna Palong union in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.
Commander of Cox’s Bazar BGB-34 Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmmed said tipped off that a group of smugglers will enter Bangladesh from Myanmar with a huge amount of drugs, BGB members took position near Koroibonia border.

As a BGB team tried to stop them they opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back.
At one point, the smugglers ran away leaving behind one of their injured members, said the BGB Commander.
The BGB members took the wounded peddler to Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex where doctors announced him dead.

Fifty thousand Yaba pills, a locally made gun and two bullet shells were recovered from the scene.
A BGB member was also injured in the gunfight.
Two held in Kurigram for illegal border crossing
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained two Bangladeshi men Saturday for illegally crossing the border between India and Bangladesh.
The arrestees were identified as Zahidul Islam, 28, and Shahriar Ahmed, both from Bhurungamari Union.
A patrol team of BGB Shingjhar camp detained them while they were entering Bangladesh near the international boundary Pillar-952 S of the border near Shingjhar Mather Par area.
The offense however also includes illegally crossing into India first, before crossing back to return to Bangladesh. In itself, a Bangladeshi entering Bangladesh cannot be illegal.

Officer-in-Charge of Bhurungamari police station Alamgir Hossain said the two men were sent to jail after filing a case under Bangladesh Passport Act 1973 against them.

Madrasa teacher held for molesting student in Sylhet
Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) on Wednesday detained a madrasa teacher for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old student in Sylhet.
The accused has been identified as Hafiz Abdur Rahman, 55, a teacher at Hazrat Haider Shah (R) Hafizia Madrasa in the Fatehpur area of Biyanibazar.

Sources told UNB that the student is the son of a BGB personnel. Hafiz was detained on Wednesday morning after the student narrated his ordeal to his father.
In the afternoon, BGB 52 Battalion officials took Hafiz to the headquarters for questioning. Later in the evening, he was handed over to the Biyanibazar police after the boy gave a formal statement to BGB.

Hillol Roy, officer-in-charge of Biyanibazar police station, said the student's father has lodged a complaint at the police station against the accused. "An FIR will soon be filed in the case," he added.
‘Drug peddler’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with BGB in Cox’s Bazar
A suspected Yaba peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in the Naf River in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district early Sunday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.
A patrol team of BGB-2 noticed a boat with some people in the Naf River along the bordering area and challenged the boat early in the morning, said Commanding officer of BGB-2 Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Foysal Hasan.

At one stage, the criminals opened fire on the BGB men, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
After a brief gunfight, the BGB men recovered a bullet-hit body of a man and recovered 3.40 lakh Yaba pills and a gun from the spot.
Bangladeshi man found dead at Kurigram border, police suspect BSF shooting
A Bangladeshi man was found dead early hours of Saturday at Datvanga border in Rowmari upazila of Kurigram and a local police official suspected that he might have been killed by Indian Border Security Force.
The deceased, identified as Sahibor Rahman,40, hailed from Kauniar Char village along the border.
Assistant constable of Kurigram-35 BGB GS branch in Jamalpur, Mukit said around 12 am a BGB patrol team heard three to four rounds of bullet fired near international pillar number 1054. The patrol found none when it reached the spot.

Around 1 am locals informed BGB a villager named Sahibor had gone towards the border and he died there. Police at Roumari were informed of the incident, he said.
Until now BSF didn’t confirm any firing at the border, said the BGB constable.
According to locals Sahibor was shot by Dwipchar camp BSF members while he was seen with cows close to the border. Later villagers brought his body to his home.
Datvanga Border Outpost commander Joyen Uddin said we informed the police after a man was reported shot dead at his home.

Rowmari police station’s officer-in-charge, Montasir Billah said they are suspecting Sahibor was shot by BSF members.
A team was sent to recover the body from his home, he said.
Bangladeshi men stray into India, thrashed
India's elite border guards have allegedly thrashed two Bangladeshi men at the entry gate of the Dahagram-Angarpota Tin Bigha Corridor in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.
Dahagram-Angarpota is a Bangladeshi enclave in India, about 200 metres from the international border. It is linked to mainland Bangladesh through the Tin Bigha Corridor, which is situated in Patgram upazila.

Locals claimed that Joynal Abedin (32) and Al Mamun (40) were caught and tortured by the Border Security Force (BSF) after they "accidentally" strayed into India through the corridor on Monday.
The duo had narrated their ordeal, after their release by the Indian border guards.
Later that day, a flag meeting was held between the BSF and Border Guards Bangladesh after the latter lodged a strong protest over the incident with their Indian counterparts.

Movement through the Tin Bigha corridor was also halted for two hours that day in the wake of the incident.
At the flag meeting, two company commanders of the Indian border guards also expressed their regret over the incident, Nazrul Islam, company commander of the 51 Border Guards Bangladesh Panbari camp, told UNB.
“After getting information about the incident, we immediately protested and called a flag meeting. At the flag meeting, the BSF expressed its regret over the beating of the two Bangladeshi men and promised that such incidents would not happen again,” he said.
BSF handovers to BGB 5 Bangladeshis held in Fulbari border
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over five Bangladeshi citizens who illegally entered India to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after holding a flag meeting on Saturday evening.
The arrestees were identified as Abul Kalam,25, his wife Shahnaj Begum, son, Shahjalal,5, from Kamalapur village of former enclave Dashiarchara and Nur Jahan Begum,35, and her son Nur Imam,7, from Jokarhat Amtala village of the same upazila.
BGB filed a case against three of the arrestees for crossing borders without passports and handed them over to police while leaving the two children in their parent’s custody.

Belal Hossain , relative of an arrestee said, they went to India’s Delhi by illegal means through a broker and used to work in a brick kiln there.
While waiting to enter Bangladesh near the border, BSF members of India’s Dhaprahat camp arrested them, he said.
Dhaprahat-192 battalion BSF inspector Vivek Mila handed the arrestees over to BGB-15 Kashipur camp Company Commander Subedar Ramjan Ali in a flag meeting held near international pillar no-942 of Kashipur border around 5pm, Saturday, said the BGB sources.

Benapole: BGB on high alert to prevent rawhide smuggling
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was on Thursday put on high alert to prevent rawhide smuggling, a day after Eid-ul-Azha, a holy festival during which Muslims sacrifice animals.
BGB Commander (49th Battalion) Lt Colonel Selim Reza told UNB that the force has intensified patrolling along the Benapole border.

Sources said the BGB has stepped up vigil not only in Benapole, but also in Gatipara, Bara Achra, Sadipur, Raghunathpur, Ghiba, Dhanyakhola, Putkhali and Goga, Kayba, Agrabhulot, Rudrapur, Kashipur, Shikarpur, Shalkona and Shahjatpur areas.
The seasonal smugglers have stockpiled rawhide after purchasing the same at a high price.
According to traders, the quality of Bangladeshi rawhide is better than that of India and that’s why there is a demand for the Bangladeshi product in the neighbouring country.
In different areas of Sharsha upazila, five mounds of cow hides are being sold at Tk 300-400 and 10 mounds of cow hides at Tk 600. On the other hand, in West Bengal state of India, sacrificial cow hides weighing five mounds are being sold for Rs 400-600 and those weighing 10 mounds are being sold for Rs 800-1,000.

Lt Colonel Selim said the law enforcement agencies are working to prevent smuggling of goods, including rawhide.
This year, the government has fixed raw cow hide prices at Tk 40-45 per sq ft in the capital and Tk 33-37 outside Dhaka.
Border guards eaxchange sweets and Eid greetings at Hili border
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, border guards of Bangladesh and India exchanged sweets and greetings on Wednesday morning.
Hili CP Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp commander Subedar Showkat Ali Molla said that sweets were gifted to the commander of Border Security Force (BSF) on the Indian side fro Joypurhat-10 BGB battalion.

Commander Ramakant Singh of BSF Hili camp reciprocated by sending sweets as gifts.
During religious and national celebrations, BGB and BSF exchange gifts, greetings and sweets as a tradition with an aim to bolster friendly ties between the two countries, the BGB camp commander said.

Meanwhile, the BSF camp commander said that "this kind of exchange of sweets and greetings motivates the border guards of both the countries".
Bangladeshi youth killed in BSF firing along Lalmonirhat border
A Bangladeshi young man was gunned down by some members of the Indian Border Security Force(BSF) along Patgram border in Patgram upazila on Tuesday morning.
The shooting occurred near No 862 main pillar of Shamsernagar Kanirbari under No 3 ward of Jagatber union of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Rifat Hossain, 30, son of Islam Hossain of Munshirhat Najirgomani area in the upazila.
Belal Hossain, Company Commander of BGB-61 battalion, said a patrol team of BSF opened fire on a group of cattle traders when they went to the border to bring cattle around 10:30 am.
Later, Indian police and BSF took away the body.

A letter was sent to BSF seeking return of the body after holding a flag meeting, said Belal.
In September, Indian Border Security Force had reiterated its policy of using non-lethal weapons on the Bangladesh-India border.

The BSF made the assurance in response to the concerns expressed by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on border deaths.
The BSF assured that all unarmed and innocent trespassers and victims of human trafficking will be handed over to BGB personnel.
