Bangladesh ambassador presents credentials to Chilean president
Bangladesh Ambassador Sadia Faizunnesa has presented her credentials to Chilean president Gabriel Boric Font at Palacio de La Moneda in Chile's capital Santiago.
Sadia assumed the charge of ambassador of Bangladesh to Brazil on October 17, 2021. She will also serve as Bangladesh's non-resident ambassador to Chile and Bolivia.
Following the presentation of her credentials Friday, the Bangladesh ambassador had a meeting with Gabriel Boric.
Sadia spoke about the friendship between legendary Latin American leader Fidel Castro and Bangladesh's Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Boric said he was touched when he learned what Fidel Castro said about Bangabandhu in 1973: "I have not seen the Himalayas. But I have seen Sheikh Mujib. In personality and in courage, this man is the Himalayas. I have thus had the experience of witnessing the Himalayas."
The Chilean president lauded the rapid, unprecedented socio-economic progress of Bangladesh, calling the country a role model for developing countries.
Boric also gladly accepted the invitation to visit Bangladesh.

Ambassador Li expects stability in Bangladesh for continued development
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming on Saturday said peace and stability are required for development.
"We hope that this country's social and political stability will be there in place so that its socio-economic development continues," he said.
Ambassador Li also said China does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.
He made the remarks while responding to questions at a seminar held in a city hotel.

Invited by Bangladesh China Silk Road Forum (BCSRF), he attended the seminar on the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The Ambassador delivered a keynote speech and answered questions from the media.
Dilip Barua, the Chairman of BCSRF and the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist-Leninist), Rashed Khan Menon, MP, President of the Workers Party of Bangladesh, as well as other members of political parties in Bangladesh and representatives from think tanks also participated in the event.
Ambassador Li introduced the main contents of the report of the Congress, including the achievements of the past five years and the great changes in the past decade of China, the indigenous way to achieve Chinese modernization, and the general plan for the work of China on the new journey.

The envoy also shared his thoughts on the Congress, ranging from the importance of a powerful leading core and self-reform for a party, to the significance of theory innovation.
Bangladesh appoints career diplomat Nazrul Islam as ambassador to Qatar
The government has appointed career diplomat Md. Nazrul Islam as the new Ambassador of Bangladesh to the State of Qatar.
He will succeed Ambassador Md. Jashim Uddin , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday.
Ambassador Nazrul Islam is a career foreign service officer belonging to the 15th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre.
He is currently serving as Ambassador of Bangladesh to Ethiopia with concurrent accreditation to South Sudan, Burundi and African Union (AU).

In his distinguished diplomatic career, Islam also served in different capacities at Bangladesh Missions in Rome, Kolkata and Geneva and had been engaged in many important multilateral negotiations for the government.
At the headquarters, he worked in various capacities in different wings.
Islam obtained his Masters in International Relations from Dhaka University and had undergone higher studies and trainings in France, the Netherlands and elsewhere.
Spanish ambassador meets President Hamid
Spanish Ambassador to Bangladesh Francisco de Asis Benitez Salas met President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban Thursday.
The Spanish envoy handed over a letter of greeting from the king of Spain on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and Spain, President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told the media.

Calling Spain one of Bangladesh's development partners, President Hamid hoped that the bilateral cooperation between the counties in trade and tourism would be further expanded.
The president also hoped that Spain would continue to pressure Myanmar to create conditions for the repatriation of Rohingyas.
Hamid thanked the Spanish government for its support in publishing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's autobiography "The Unfinished Memories" in Spanish.
He expressed regret over the damage caused by the heatwaves in European countries, including Spain, and stressed working together to combat climate change.
Mustafizur new Bangladesh high commissioner to India
The government has appointed Md Mustafizur Rahman as the country's new high commissioner to India.
Ambassador Mustafizur, now permanent representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Offices in Geneva and ambassador to Switzerland, will replace Muhammad Imran.
Mustafizur is a career foreign service officer from the 11th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre.
In his diplomatic career, he served in Bangladesh missions in Paris, New York, Geneva and Kolkata, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mustafizur also served as the Bangladesh high commissioner to Singapore.

At the headquarters, he occupied different positions – namely, at the United Nations Wing.
A medical graduate from Sir Salimullah Medical College, Mustafizur obtained a master's degree in public international law from the UK's University of London and a post-graduate diploma from France's International Institute of Public Administration.
Career diplomat Muhammad Imran named as Bangladesh ambassador to US
The government has appointed Muhammad Imran, currently serving as the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, as the ambassador of Bangladesh to the United States, the foreign ministry announced on Wednesday.
Imran will succeed Md Shadidul Islam, the current Bangladesh ambassador in Washington DC.
Imran is a career foreign service officer belonging to the 1986 batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre.
In his illustrious diplomatic career, Imran has served extensively in various capacities both at the Headquarters as well as in Bangladesh Missions abroad such as Jeddah, Bonn, Berlin and Ottawa, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Imran also served as the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata and Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan (with concurrent accreditation to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan).

He was also the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi.
A medical graduate from Mymensingh Medical College, Imran obtained Diploma in Development Diplomacy from Germany and completed a course on Humanitarian Law from International Institute of Humanitarian Law at San Remo, Italy.
He is married to Dr Zakia Hasnat and blessed with two daughters.
Abdul Muhith made next Ambassador & Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UN
The government has appointed Muhammad Abdul Muhith as the next Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, New York.
He will be replacing Rabab Fatima in this capacity.
Muhammad Abdul Muhith, a career diplomat, belongs to the 11th batch of BCS (FA) cadre, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

Currently he is serving as the Bangladesh Ambassador to Austria and the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN Offices and other International Organizations in Vienna, with concurrent accreditation as Ambassador to Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia.
Prior to that, he served as the Bangladesh Ambassador to Denmark and was concurrently accredited to Estonia and Iceland. In his distinguished diplomatic career, Muhith has served in Bangladesh Missions in Kuwait, Rome, Doha, Washington DC as well as in the Permanent Mission to the UN in New York and in the Ministry in different capacities.

Muhith obtained BSS and MSS in Sociology from the University of Dhaka.
He also has a diploma in Arabic language from the University of Kuwait. He is married and blessed with two daughters.
Jennifer Lopez becomes Grameen America’s National Ambassador
Superstar singer Jennifer Lopez, who has built a considerable empire across film, television, beauty, fashion and philanthropy, has linked up with Grameen America to serve as a national ambassador.
The role will see Lopez serving several functions, including helping Grameen America with its mission of empowering 600,000 Latina entrepreneurs across 50 U.S. cities with $14 billion in business capital and six million hours of financial education and training by 2030.
To kick off her role as National Ambassador, Lopez will motivate, promote, and inspire Latina businesswomen, helping them understand the pathway to financial independence and literacy through joining the Grameen America microloan program, , according to Grameen America .
Lopez will mentor the organization's existing Latina business owners, educating them on the importance of credit and asset-building and developing a savings program to promote financial resilience.
Founded in 2008 by Bangladeshi Nobel Peace Prize recipient Muhammad Yunus, Grameen America is a nonprofit microfinance organization dedicated to helping women who live in poverty build small businesses. The org offers microloans, training and support to transform communities and fight poverty in the United States. To date, Grameen has served more than 150,000 women in 23 U.S. cities, distributed $2.6 billion in loans and helped create and maintain 157,000 jobs.

US wants to expand trade, investment partnership: Ambassador Haas
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas has said Bangladesh and the United States can “go fastest together” in building trade and investment relationship between the two countries.
“I truly believe it. This is not just talk,” he said, noting that the United States is willing to go as fast as Bangladesh is to deepen and expand the bilateral partnership.
The US ambassador was addressing an event titled “US-Bangladesh Business Forum: Building on 50 Years of Friendship '' held in a city hotel on Tuesday night hosted by HSBC Bangladesh, in partnership with the US-Bangladesh Business Council (USBBC).
In another panel discussion, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam and Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh also spoke.
Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Ahmad Kaikaus, CEO of HSBC Bangladesh Md Mahbub Ur Rahman and Vice President, Business Development for Chevron Jay R. Pryor also spoke.
Haas said the US-Bangladesh business delegation demonstrates just how ready the US private sector is to invest their time and energy in Bangladesh.
The event was organised to celebrate the relationship between Bangladesh and the USA and noted the important ways in which the two countries can unlock the potential of its bilateral trade.
Bangladesh keen to sign FTA with South Korea, Tipu Munshi tells Ambassador
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Sunday urged the South Korean ambassador to Dhaka for more investment from his country in Bangladesh, whereby they can take advantage of the abundant and therefore cheap human resources here.
“We have long-standing trade and economic relations with Korea as an important business partner and now Bangladesh would like to sign a free trade agreement (FTA) with the country,” he said.
The commerce minister made the remarks when Korean ambassador to Dhaka Lee Jang-Keun called on him at his Secretariat office on Sunday.

In response Lee said Korea is working to set up a car-manufacturing plant in Bangladesh as Korea considers the country an important partner for increasing trade and investment.
Bangladesh has made unprecedented progress in the last ten years which is now visible, said Ambassador Lee.
“Korea's bilateral trade with Bangladesh is now at its peak. A number of Korean companies are working in various sectors of Bangladesh, including readymade garments and electronic products,” he added.
The Korean Ambassador said that Bangladesh has successfully tackled the Covid-19 situation.
Korean investors, mostly from their private sector, have invested in garment, electronics and other sectors in Bangladesh, operating several companies, which brings an opportunity to increase this investment and trade, Munshi said.
Md. Hafizur Rahman, additional secretary (Export), Nur Md. Mahbubul Hoque, Additional Secretary (FTA), first secretary of Korean embassy Youngmin Seo, among others, was present in the meeting.

Bangladesh exported goods to Korea worth USD $398.66 million in the fiscal year 2020-21, at the same time imported goods of $ 1126.60 million.
