Minor siblings drown in Bandarban
Two minor siblings allegedly drowned in a lake at Karbaripara in Alikadam upazila of Bandarban district early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Marufa Jannat, 7, and Mahfuza Jannat, 40, both daughters of Mohammad Mahmudullah of the area.
The two siblings went missing on Friday afternoon after stepping out to fetch some water, said Abul Kalam, chairman of No 2 Choikhong union.

Later their family members, along with local people, searched for them. Around 2am, they found the body of Marufa floating in the lake. Subsequently, Mahfuza's body was fished out of the lake.
Local people suspect that they might have met the watery grave while trying to pluck mangoes from a tree adjacent to the lake.
2 children drown in Thakurgaon pond
Two minor children drowned in a pond at Haripur in Thakurgaon on Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Rumin Islam, 6, and his cousin Shova Aktar, 4, of Bhabanipur Modhudanga village of the upazila.

The two children fell into the pond while playing around 9am, said Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Haripur police station.
Local people found the floating bodies of the two children after looking for them for an hour.
A case was filed at the police station in this regard, said the OC.

2 children drown in Barishal
Two minor children drowned in a pond at Muladi in Sadar upazila of Barishal on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as six-month-old boy Ariyan Khan, son of Sumon Khan, and his cousin two-year-old girl Sarika Aktar, daughter of Abdul Jabbar of Chardakatia village of the upazila.

The two children fell into the pond while playing around 11 am, said Md Yusuf, sub-inspector (SI) of Muladi police station.
Later, local people found the floating bodies of the two children around 2pm and took them to Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead, the SI added.
Rajshahi: Two friends drown while bathing in Padma
Two friends drowned while taking a bath in the Padma river in Rajshahi on Friday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Nirab, 15, son of Sarik Ali of Borokuthi area, and Shahin, 16, son of Sayed Ali of the same area. Nirab was a student of Loknath School while Shahin studied in Education Board Model School. They were both in Class VIII.
Boalia Police officer-in-charge Mazharul Islam said that a group of 8-10 boys were taking a bath in the river near the Barakuthi area around 11am.

"Suddenly one of them, Sajeed, started drowning in the water. Nirab and Shahin jumped into the river to save him but unfortunately they drowned. However, Sajeed managed to swim ashore," he said.
Fire service members rushed Nirab and Shahin to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. "The bodies will be handed over to the family after the legal process," the OC said.
Chandpur: School picnic turns tragic as student drowns
An 18-year-old boy drowned in a river while on a school picnic to Mohanpur Tourism Centre in Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Tutul Hossain Nayan, a 10th grade student of Dhaka’s Nabarun School and College, and son of Anwar Hossain, a police officer.
Md Azizul Haque, the school headmaster, told UNB that 140 students had gone for the picnic to Chandpur.

AKM Kawsar, in-charge of Mohanpur Naval Police Outpost in Matlab Uttar upazila, said that the boy drowned while taking a bath in the river with his three classmates at 3pm.
“After searching for hours, naval divers found his body around 6pm. The body was later handed over to his father. A general daily was lodged in this regard," he added.
Two children drown in Faridpur pond
A pall of gloom has descended on Dakkhin Bilnalia Natun Hatkhola village in Faridpur, following the deaths of two children due to drowning on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Sajid (4), son of Ayub Mridha, and Tariqul (5), son of Majibor Munshi of the village in Nagarkanda upazila.
Kamal Hossain, the newly elected chairman of Talma Union, said the two children had gone missing since Tuesday noon. "They were last spotted playing near a pond close to their house in the village," he said.

Local people spotted the bodies of the two children floating in the pond later in the day and fished them out. The boys were taken to a local hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Child's body recovered; 2 remain missing from trawler that drowned in Meghna
The body of a child was recovered but two others remain missing after a trawler sank in the Meghna river near South Char Fashion upazila of Bhola on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Junayed, 3, while the trawler owner Swapan, 30, and his mother Bilkis Begum,50, remained missing, said police sources.
The trawler headed toward Kacchapia ghat from Char Patila drowned with nine passengers around 1 pm, said Abdul Hossain Mahajan, chairman of Char Kukri Mukri union.

Of the passengers, six got rescued by nearby trawlers.
Immediately after the incident Char Manika contingent coast guard and Dakkhin Aicha station police started a rescue operation to find the missing passengers.

Due to hostile weather and rough waves the rescue operation is being hindered, said LS Abdullah Al Mamun, one of the Coast Guard members in the rescue team.
Turag trawler capsize: Death toll rises to 5
The death toll from the trawler capsize in the Turag River rose to five with the recovery of the bodies of two more children on Saturday afternoon.
The bodies were retrieved one kilometre off the spot around 4:30pm but their identities could not be known yet, said in-charge of Aminbazar police outpost Sabur Alam.
The sunken trawler has also been salvaged, he said.
Earlier, the bodies of two children and a woman were subsequently fished out of the river.
Kazi Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Savar Police Station, said the Gabtoli-bound vessel with 15 people on board capsized in the river after hitting the bulkhead off the coast of Savar's Aminbazar on the outskirts of Dhaka in the morning.

While eight people managed to swim to safety, seven others went missing.
On information, divers from the local fire service station rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Dinmoni Sharma, deputy director of Fire Service Dhaka Division, said the divers of fire service suspended the rescue operation at 6 pm and it will resume on Sunday morning.

Two 8-year-olds drown in Bagerhat
Two children drowned in a pond in Bagerhat’s Sharankhola upazila on Friday afternoon
The incident occurred in Bara Rajapur Savarer Par village of the upazila while they were playing.
The deceased were identified as Mahim, 8, son of Enamul Hawladar of Argi village under Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur district and Sohan, 8, son of Idris Ali of Paschim Baliapara village under Indurkani upazila of the same district.

According to family members, the deceased were cousins who with their mothers had gone to visit their grandparents' house. It was learned they went to play by the side of a nearby pond. But their family members couldn’t find them.
Later, locals found the floating bodies of the children.
Sumi Akhter, a doctor at the emergency department at Sharankhola Upazila Health Complex, said that the children had died before reaching the hospital.

Sharankhola police officer in charge (OC) Saidur Rahman said the bodies of the two children have been recovered and sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

10-year old boy drowns in Buriganga while bathing, his family says
A 10-year old student drowned in Buriganga river near Bosila bridge on Sunday while taking bath with friends, his father said.
The body of Mohammad Sifat, madrasa student, was recovered by fire service drivers after an hour of search, his father Badrul Alam said.
