Man arrested for raping minor girl in Kurigram
A 60-year-old man was arrested on charge of violating a minor girl in Phulbari upazila of the district on Friday.
The arrestee is Nazrul Sai, son of late Bogruddin of Pachhim Phulmati village under the upazila.
Locals said the three-year-old girl went to the house of the accused to play with other children like other days on Friday morning.
The accused tactfully took her to his house and raped her, they said.

Hearing screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued her from the clutches of the vicious Nazrul.
Fazlur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Phulbari police station, said the accused was handed over to police after the detention.
A case under ‘Women and Children Repression and Prevention Act’ was filed against him, he said adding that the accused was sent to jail through a Kurigram court later.
The rape survivor sent to Kurigram Sadar hospital for a medical test, the OC added.
5 get death sentence for raping teenage girl in Khulna
A tribunal in Khulna today (September 7, 2022) sentenced five men to death for raping a teenage girl in Khalishpur of the district in 2011.
The death row convicts are-Ali Akbar alias Hridoy, Mehedi Hasan alias Ibu, Sohel, Abdullah and Mohon.
Khulna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 Judge Abdus Salam Khan pronounced the judgment.

On March 23 in 2011, convict Mohon abducted the girl from the Bihari Camp in Khalishpur and took her to a banana orchard in Charer Haat.
Ali Akbar and some others raped the girl there, leaving her unconscious near the camp.
Later, a case was filed at Khalishpur police station.

On June 20 of the same year, the investigation officer of the case sub-inspector (SI) Kazi Rezaul Karim submitted a chargesheet against the five.
Among the convicts, Sohel, Abdullah and Mohon were tried in absentia.
2 held for raping teenager in Sirajganj
Police on Monday arrested two youths for allegedly raping a girl in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj.
The arrestees are Kiron Khan, 24, son of Surmat Khan of Dargarchar village of the upazila and Faizul Islam, 22, son of Aminul Islam of East Sultanpur village of Sherpur sadar.
On Sunday night, the father of the victim lodged a complaint at Shahjadpur police station, said Nazrul Islam Mridha, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahjadpur police station.
Following the complaint, a case was filed in this regard.

According to the case statement, two rapists picked up the girl from her house Saturday at midnight and violated her in turns after taking her to the bank of the river
Later, she managed to escape and describe her ordeals to her family members.
Police raided the Dargarchar area of the upazila on Sunday night and arrested the accused.
Primary school teacher sued for raping 9th grader in Kurigram
An assistant teacher of a government primary school was sued in a case filed on charge of raping a ninth grader in Phulbari upazila of the district on Friday.
The accused has been identified as Motaleb Mia, an assistant teacher of Gorukmondal Government Primary School and son of late Chad Mia of Naodanga union in the upazila.
Local Abdul Karim said the teacher developed love affairs with the girl of a local educational institution and raped her several times promising marriage.
At one stage, the girl became pregnant and put pressure on him to marry her but he intentionally delayed, he said.
As the both families failed to reach consent after holding arbitration on Thursday night, the victim’s father filed the case accusing the teacher, father of two children, at the local police station on Friday morning.

Fazrul Rahman, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Phulbari Police Station, said they sent the survivor to Sadar Hospital for medical test through a court.
Though the accused went into hiding following the case, efforts are on to nab him, the OC said.
Ashrafuzzaman, acting education officer of the upazila, said legal action will be taken against him if the allegation is found true.
23 year-old girl invited by ‘friend’ to visit Sylhet, raped by 7
A 23-year-old girl has allegedly been raped by seven people for three days when she went to visit Sylhet on invitation of one of her friends.
The crime took place at the house of the girl’s ‘friend’ Julee from August 19 to August 21, said Nazmul Huda, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station.
A complaint was lodged with Jalalabad Police on Tuesday.
Police arrested three people in this connection. They were Julekha alias Julee, 19, ‘friend’ of the rape survivor and wife of Zubayer Hossain, Zubayer Hossain, 28 and Joynal Mia, 40.
Of the arrestees one gave confessional statement before the court on Tuesday while the two others were placed on one-day remand.

According to the complaint, the girl, hailing from Mymensingh district, used to live in Azimpur in Dhaka. July is her Facebook friend.
After getting invitation from Julee, the girl went to her house in Sylhet. Later, the alleged rapists with the help of Julee confined her to a room where she was violated by seven people twice.
Julee assisted the rapists during her stay in the house, it said.
Now the girl is undergoing treatment at Osmani Medical College and Hospital, said Azbahar Ali Sheikh, deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.
4 to die for killing girl after rape in Chandpur
A Chandpur tribunal on Tuesday sentenced four people to death in a case over killing a 20-year-old girl after gang rape in 2013.
The condemned convicts are Zia, 32, Kamal 36, Abul Bashar, 48 and Mahmuda Begum, 38 of Rasulpur village. Of them Mahmuda was tried in absentia.
Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Jannatul Ferdous Chowdhury handed down the punishment.

According to the prosecution, on May 21, 2013, police recovered the body of Rahima, daughter of Shafiul Miaji, from a maize filed in Matlab South upazila of the district.
During investigation, police came to know that Mahmuda had an enmity with Rahima over money.
As per Mahmud’s plan , the other convicts took Rahima to the maize filed where they killed her after rape.
Rahima’s father lodged a complaint with Matlab South Police.
Youth arrested for raping girl in Manikganj
Police on Friday arrested a youth on charge of raping a 12-year-old girl at a fair in Singair upazila of Manikgaj district, said police.
The arrestee was identified as Sharif Miah, 22, son of Md Shahidullah of Khaserchar village in the upazila.
Safiqul Islam, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Singair Police Station, said the teenager was working with her parents at their makeshift snacks shop at a four-day fair organized marking the holy Ashura in the Khaserchar area.
Sharif, also a tea seller of the fair, took the girl to an orchard of papaya in absence of the victim’s parents at the shop and raped her over the night, said he.

Though the parents looked for her the entire night, she returned home in the morning and disclosed the matter to them, the OC also said.
“The accused was arrested from the Khaserhcar area when we came to know about the incident through Dhalla police camp, he said adding that the victim was also sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for medical test.
The victim’s father filed a case against the accused under Women and Children Repression and Prevention Act at the police station, added the police officer.
Robbery & rape in Tangail moving bus: Mastermind among 10 held
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have detained ten more people, including the ‘mastermind’ of the robbery incident after hijacking a Chattogram-bound bus in Tangail when a woman commuter was raped.
The detainees were identified as mastermind Ratan Hossain, 21, Md Alauddin, 24, Sohag Mondol, 20, Khandakar Md Hasmat Ali alias Dipu, 23, Md Babu Hossain alias Julhas, 21, Md Jibon, 21, Md Abdul Mannan, 22, Md Nayeem Sarkar, 19, Russell Talukdar, 32, and Md Aslam Talukdar alias Raihan.
The Rab members detained the 10 after conducting drives in Dhaka, Gazipur and Sirajganj on Sunday, Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the Legal and Media Wing of the Rab headquarters, said while briefing reporters on Monday.
Rab also seized 20 mobile phone sets, two silver bangles, 14 SIM (subscriber identity module) cards and a sharp weapon used in robbery from their possession.
During primary interrogation, it was known that mastermind Ratan served jail for one and a half years for robbing a bus of ‘Savar Paribahan’ along with Jibon, who was a helper of a bus, in 2018. After being released from jail on bail in 2020, Ratan snatched an auto-rickshaw and again jailed for another year.

After being released on bail, he and his gang committed robberies on the highways in Savar, Gazipur or Sirajganj areas.
During the robbery in Tangail, Jibon was engaged in looting the goods of the passengers.
Legal steps will be taken against the detainees, the official added.
On August 3, the spine-chilling crime occurred in Raktipara area of Tangail's Madhupur upazila.
When the bus took the busy Dhaka-Tangail Highway in the Natiapara area, the seven robbers whiffed out guns, hijacked the vehicle, and drove it towards Madhupur upazila.
Posing as passengers, the seven boarded the bus in two groups in a span of 10 minutes around 11pm after it resumed its onward journey following a stopover at a hotel in Sirajganj district.
Twenty-four people, including 22 passengers and two staffers, were on board the bus of ‘Eagle Paribahan’ at the time.
On a desolate stretch, the armed gang robbed the twenty-four people, including 22 passengers of cash, jewellery and mobile phones.
They then blindfolded the passengers and raped the woman commuter on board.
The passengers' ordeal continued for over three hours till the seven criminals forced them to get off the bus and drove the heavy vehicle towards Raktipara's Jam-e-Mosque, where they abandoned it and fled with the booty, police said.
An FIR was lodged in connection with the robbery and rape.
On Thursday, Raza Mia, 32, was arrested from the Deula area of Tangail district town, said police. Raza is a driver of ‘Jhatika Service’ bus in Tangail and lived in a rented house in Tangail new bus terminal area.
During interrogation, Raza told cops that he was the one who drove the bus while others held the passengers and staff hostage at gunpoint, said Sarkar Md Kaisar, superintendent of Tangail Police.
Mother, daughter raped for 7 days in Sylhet; 2 held
Police have arrested two people in connection with the rape of a woman and her 15-year-old daughter for seven days in Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet district.
The arrestees are Matin Miah, manager of Supreme Filling Station of Goaulbazar area of Osmaninagar upazila and Bulbul, 40, owner of Bogura hotel of the same area.
SM Mayeen Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Osmaninagar Police Station, said the mother, hailing from Netrokona district, used to work at the Bogura hotel and lived with her daughter at a rented house beside the hotel at the upazila headquarters.

The culprits picked up the mother and her daughter and rape them after taking to several places for seven days from June 14 to 20, he said.
Escaping from the hostage of the rapists, the mother filed a complaint accusing the two under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with the police station on August 04, he said.
The rape survivors are now undergoing treatment at One-Stop-Crisis Centre of Sylhet MAG Osmain Medical College and Hospital, the OC said adding that the arrestees were sent to a court.
Tangail bus horror: Suspected robber remanded
A court here on Thursday placed one of the seven armed robbers who allegedly hijacked a Chattogram-bound bus in Tangail, looted commuters and raped a young woman, on a five-day police remand.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Badal Kumar Chanda passed the order after police sought a seven-day remand to interrogate gang member Raza Mia, said court inxpector Tanbir Ahmed.
Meanwhile ,Senior Judicial Majistrate Rumi Khatun recorded statement of the rape survivor under section 22 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act Thursday evening.
“In primary medical test of the girl evidence of rape was found," said Assistant Professor Dr Rehana Parvin, head of the three-member medical board formed by Tangail Sheikh Hasina Medical College Hospital in this regard.
